Re: Seattle Mariners 2012 team thread

Erasmo Ramirez goes out there and pitches the game of his life and most likely will be saddled with a LOSS.

Nice offense, M's... Way to pick your pitcher up when he's having a nearly flawless night.

Millone looks like a Cy Young candidate out there.

Re: Seattle Mariners 2012 team thread

I am going to try and not be too negative, but man, I can't believe how mentally WEAK this team is.

They swing the bats on the road and come home to get shut out by a ROOKIE. Yeah, Milone is solid, I get it. That was just a pathetic effort, though. Ramirez deserved his first MLB win tonight and the offense robbed him of that. He had a near flawless night and the offense can't score him a couple of runs?

It was that big, bad, Safeco Field, right? Smoak, did you hit a couple more balls that should have bombs but died in the air? It's not Safeco Field Justin, you just can't sustain any success at this level and you're 26 - by now you should be showing a bit more than what you have shown. I am sorry but these types of slumps can't be happening - not if you expect me to take you seriously and have faith in you. You're dangerously close to dipping under the Mendoza Line again... Really?

Sorry guys, but this is how I process terrible M's seasons. I get livid when our pitchers go out there and dominate and lose games because their team gives them zero support.

This organization has wasted Felix Hernandez.

When will things turn for the better? When will it be sustained? When will we see some of our young 'talent' actually blossom?

Very little in life do I get down on; very little do I complain about... But M's baseball is something that always has me in a bad mood. Sometimes, I honestly just wish I could quit caring because everything is the same. Same owner, same goons in the Front Office. Very little accountability, ANYWHERE.

Time to relax. I know that, this thread is just the place I come to vent out some frustration - sorry you guys have to read this crap.

I'm just numb to it. Promising start, that quickly fades by June. That's Mariners baseball.

Smoak is down to his last three months as a Mariner if he doesn't turn it around and show some consistency and improvement. I want to see Montero play 1B a little bit, but I'm afraid the results might be comically bad. His athleticism reminds me of a rolly-polly/pill bug stuck on its back.

As for the rest of the team I'm not as frustrated or down. I expected a 72-75 win team and they are on pace for 67 with 15 games against Minnesota and Kansas City over the next two months.

I don't know how much better they'll be next year with them breaking in the new pitching. We'll see.

USS Mariner has a scathing article on Smoak where they called him a bust.

I can't say that I disagree with that. Until Smoak proves otherwise, his career trajectory is worse than Casey Kotchman's. I backed the trade when we got him from Texas for Lee. I backed him when he struggled early on. I still back him, but he has to earn it a little bit.

He does not get a pass from me any longer. It's time to start producing or he needs to get out of town and start new somewhere else. If he goes somewhere else and figures it out, well, what can you do? By the end of the season, he will have had plenty of time to have shown the organization some semblance of being a viable option in the future. No one is looking for him to be an all-star right now, but he has been pathetic.

If anything, Kotchman can always fall back on being an elite defender. Smoak doesn't have that luxury.

                  That's true.

I just don't know what to think. There are so many arguments and excuses for Smoak's lack of production - injuries, Safeco Field, being rushed by the Rangers, a lack of MiLB at-bats, being a switch hitter, personal reasons, etc...

They just seem like excuses now. On one hand, he's just 25. On the other, he is approaching 1,200 MLB at-bats and has shown very little. Most of the time, he looks absolutely pathetic in the box.

Right now, the 'bust' label fits perfectly until he proves otherwise.

Trade Smoak to New York (Yankees). I believe he would hit 40 home runs a season there.
                    Kemp for NL MVP
                    Montero for AL ROY

                      1. His trade value is zero.

                      2. They are so stacked at 1B and DH that they don't have any use for him.

                      3. No, he wouldn't.

I'd say 1200 big league plate apperances is more than getting a chance.

His career triple slash is .223/.306/.376 and he is a mere .212/.275/.350 this season.

Dude is a straight up bum.

If he wasn't a first round pick, he would have been DFA'd some time ago.

I'm pretty sure Chone Figgins could hit 40HR @ Yankee Stadium. The place is a joke for LH pull hitters.

Smoak simply isn't strong enough for a guy his size. He makes solid contact often, but he only has warning-track power. Last year was understandable with all of the hand injuries, but there's no reason this year. He's healthy and has been terrible 2 out of 3 months. Here's to Ard tearing up the minors and starting at 1B for the M's in 2014 (a Coug can dream, right?!)

Tom Wilhelmsen is on fire right now. Man crush.

I am sorry that he lost his dad but he can't lean on that forever (I don't think he does, rather it's the fans that keep using this as an excuse for him). We are giving him a chance but even the most stout Smoak supporters are having a tough time arguing with the bust label that is being put on him.

I'd love for him to prove people wrong and start hitting.
