Yea, I thought the leadership Rolen brought to the Reds was overblown by Baker. He brought leadership, no doubt, but it wasn't like there aren't strong leaders in the clubhouse already.

If Choo can help our lead-off issues, this team is so well rounded in every facet. Of course, pitching is a year to year thing... Last year we were lucky that our starters really put together a full season, no injuries (until that damn postseason).
It's such an exciting team to be a fan of. It was worth those lean years to see what we've become. I really hope we build off last year and don't have another 2011. I think we were a bit ahead of schedule in 2010, so it raised expectations for 2011. Last year was more realistic for this team to start taking off. The bar is only raised from here on out.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers

Perhaps Dusty always hammered on Rolen's leadership because he brought little else to the clubComment

Regarding the pitching staff. The way I see it, we have 2 aces, a very reliable guy in Arroyo and a guy that has a lot of potential and has gotten better in Bailey. If Chapman can make the move to the rotation and be effective, it makes it that much better. He's the wildcard.Cincinnati Reds University of Kentucky Cincinnati Bengals

Seriously though, I need a Reds jersey, and I need it to be Votto. I don't know whatever happened to my old Griffey red BP jersey. That thing was sweet.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers

1. Not sure how people can comment on other leaders in the clubhouse when you haven't been in the clubhouse. Straight from teammates mouth Rolen immediately made a difference when the Reds traded for him and then the following season the Reds actually were decent again.
2. Rolen only brought leadership to the clubhouse? He is still a top five 3B in the league. He made hard plays look routine. I like Frazier but he is not anywhere near Rolen's level defensively.Comment

I loved Rolen, but in what world was he a top 5 third baseman last year? He hit .245 and was injured for a lot of the year. And Frazier might not be near Rolens level defensively, but you could say the same for offense with Rolen not being near Frazier's level last year.Cincinnati Reds University of Kentucky Cincinnati Bengals

re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
John Fey tweeted the other day that Chapman got Pujols to swing through a change up (to set him up for a K with the slider). Has anyone else seen any info on Chapman developing new pitches? I'd be a lot more willing to jump on the bandwagon of moving the best closer in baseball to the rotation if I knew he had another pitch.
Can you imagine!? fastball strike looking, change-up strike swinging, slider strike looking like a bush leaguer...

Here is why you don't waste a dominant pitcher like Chapman in the closer role:
One question has fascinated me for a while now: How much have modern closers changed the game? I mean, sure, we know they have changed many ...
