Yeah anytime there's any injury to our pitcher, I'm expecting the worst.

I'm not too worried about the slow start because we've also shown some brilliant flashes and it's a marathon season. Like to start hot but ehh, no going back now.

They need to throw these guys, saves or not. Chapman is extremely valuable as a closer but that doesn't mean he can't pitch in non-save situations. Starters throw in relief, why can't closers throw in non-save situations? I like the save stat, I can't deny it, but I also know who my best relievers are and I'm not afraid to use them even if that means they won't notch another number in that SV column.

Let the Baker Hate Train begin! I though we had rid ourselves of his pets, but now he's gassing our bullpen 2 weeks into the year...

Reds disable Cueto, call up Freeman
      John Fay
      Apr 15, 2013 2:32 PM

The Reds placed right-hander Johnny Cueto on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right lat. They called up right-hander Justin Freeman from Triple-A Louisville to take his roster spot.

The club will likely call up left-hander Tony Cingrani from Triple-A to make Cueto’s next scheduled start.

No timetable was given on Cueto’s return.

Ryan Ludwick was placed on the 60-day disabled list.

Freeman, 26, appeared in five games for Louisville. He allowed one run on five hits. He walked one and struck out six. He was the club’s 32nd-round pick in the 2008 draft. He was 4-7 with a 2.91 ERA and 16 saves last year at Double-A Pensacola.

I totally agree, I've heard it posited that perhaps instead of having setup & closer roles in the pen simply use your best reliever for the most important moments... Meaning if its a one run game in the 8th and runners reach 1st and 2nd that's the time to throw your best reliever. Assuming Chapman is our best reliever you'd put him in then and use whoever to start the 9th when there isn't anyone on base and is thus less of a key situation

Ludwick going to the 60 day DL sucks as well, but it wasn't exactly unexpected. Lets just hope no more injuries...

Good win tonight to snap the losing streak. Phillips is on fire. Also amazing catch by Revere.

That play was outstanding. Best play of the year so far.

Also I think it is why some teams don't like him, but Phillips plays with a ton of emotion and I like to see it personally.

Also Chapman is lights out, as usual. When he throws that slider effectively, the batter has no chance.

We all know it... but yeah, Revere's catch was insane!

Phillips has been my guy since he got here from Cleveland and I guess we have to assume he'll come back down to earth but 16 RBIs through 12 games is bananas.

Its great to see him punishing teams for walking Votto (Votto leads majors in walks (by 10), Phillips 4th in majors in RBIs).

Votto has more walks by himself than the White Sox do. I know it is only 2 weeks into the year, but that is crazy.

Votto always had an eye for getting on base via walk. It took him a couple seasons to become the beast we know him as now (average and power). He's just so money without carrying that aura of power that Bruce has. He's not a slugger. He's a hell of a hitter and batter, if that makes sense. Cabrera is probably the best batter in the league, but I have Votto right there too.

Between the injury, power outage, and abundance of walks this season it feels like Votto has kind of fallen off the pace of Cabrerra, Trout, and the other elite hitters but I'm sure if he could start getting some pitches he be knocking doubles all over the place. I thnk Votto's most dangerous ability is to do whatever it takes to get the job done be it a 10 pitch AB ending in a walk, sac fly ball, dribbler through the infield for a 2 out RBI, or a double to the gap. He's not so focused on hitting for power that it hurts him.

I really doubt Votto has lost his power. He's been a power hitter his entire career; I'm betting that he just hasn't played enough since the injury for things to really line up for him.

And really, everything he's doing so far is just fine. He has a .521 OBP and a .418 wOBA, both of which live up to his standard for ridiculous production.

I know all of this and trust me I'm not doubting the mighty Vottomatic. I suppose I just expected him to come into the season and just tear the cover off the ball every night since he's back to good health but you're right, he's on pace to certainly be an all star; also it doesn't look like he's getting a whole hell of a lot to swing at.

Is it time I finally stop holding my breath every time he slides though?

I just think it's crazy that Bruce doesn't have one. His are going to come, but the fact that over 2 weeks into the year and Cozart has 4 home runs and Bruce doesn't even have 1 is surprising to say the least.

Bruce's home runs will come in bunches. He'll hit 10 home runs in two weeks and then look lost for a month. It's how he plays, and it's very frustrating.
