Scott Rolen made a costly error against San Fran. Does that mean he is a bum too? Get out of here with that ****. Hanigan is an excellent game manager, look at the numbers of the staff between him and Mesoraco catching. It's night and day.

They just got a decent guy that can fill in if a pitcher gets hurt next year. Much better option than Villareal or Reynolds. Not to mention they won't have to rush Stephenson into the big leagues. Decent return for a "bum".Cincinnati Reds University of Kentucky Cincinnati Bengals

Bottom line is he is a fantastic catcher and an average to above average offensive player.Comment

Holmberg is another lefty arm to compete. We'll see if Price can do something with him because he didn't impress in the debut last season.Comment

No doubt he had a bad year offensively. That doesn't mean he still isn't worth a spot on a roster, especially when he is one of the BEST defensive catchers in baseball. The offense sucked because nobody could hit outside of Choo, Votto and Bruce.Cincinnati Reds University of Kentucky Cincinnati Bengals

That Choo for Stubbs deal was a real headscratcher right. I mean the sky would have been the limit if he didn't make that move.Last edited by Dogslax41; 12-03-2013, 03:21 PM.Comment

Guys, ignore list is a lot easier than back and forth.
Sad to see Hanigan go.

Hasn't a clue? That's just a flat out moronic statement. With the salary structure and roster makeup of this team he has been a magician. Do you see the middle market Reds putting playoff rosters together one year and then fire selling the next like most of the league? He single handed has undone all the damage Schott did to the farm system and Lindner's team did to the club's financials.

re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
Stubbs might not even make Cleveland's team this year and was miserable.
Jockety took a player that was locked behind another and a flame out and traded them for an all star season that had players not slumped or hit injury issues (Votto, Broxton, Chapman, Marshall, Cozart, Frazier) could have been a tipping point in a playoff run.
Having a different take is one thing. Ignoring the tightrope that he has walked and what he has done to remake this roster and create a long term viable solution is another.
Hindsight 20/20 it would have been great to still have Didi and potentially be able to see if he can play second and get rid of Phillips, but you couldn't predict Phillips would have gone Chad Johnson this year. I still dont think you can count Choo as definately gone yet. More than likely yes but if we can get a hometown discount after shuffling some money...maybe.Last edited by Dogslax41; 12-03-2013, 04:45 PM.Comment

re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
With Granderson talking to the Mets about a three year deal I hope the Reds try to bring him in and play him in center this year to give Hamilton another year of minor league pitching and then move Granderson to left when Ludwick's deal is up after this year.
Would add some much much needed power, only issue is that gives you three lefty power bats that are an easy strategy in later innings. But they are left so you at least get the benefit of 70% of starting pitching being right handed.Comment

re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
I personally love the deal. We pave the way for Devin Mesoraco to become the #1 catcher, we get a young lefty who we'll have six years of control, and we cut payroll.
Sad to see Hannigan go, but I feel it was time. Rays fans, you will enjoy him. He's one of the best defensive catchers in the game (right up there with the Molinas), and has a quality that the Mad Scientist will enjoy (he gets on base). He had a down year last year because of injury, but I think he'll bounce back next year.
As for Reds fans who are worried about the keys to the staff being handed to Devin, his catcher ERA was the same as Hanigan's last year (never was the case before), so I think Devin has gotten better at that aspect of the game.
The thing that excites me is getting Mesoraco's bat in the lineup more. When he was playing nearly everyday when Hanigan was on the DL, Mesoraco had his best stretch of the year.
I don't think we've seen the last of the moves.Comment
