Oh I don't. Unless he really struggles in spring training.
He started a lot of games down the stretch. Unless the sign someone else he will start in cf. Or like I said if Brandon is traded like everyone is saying he will play 2b.

        Great article. Lol
So the recent Kinsler Fielder trade May or may not help the chances that the Reds trade Brandon? Really? You don't say?

One thing I'm kind of keeping in mind....people keep saying the Reds have no room to expand payroll.

          Says who?

          - Attendance grew at GABP...that means more revenue.
          - Reds will receive roughly $25 million more in national TV revenues (not to mention money from digital platforms, enhanced revenue sharing, and a new local TV contract soon)
          - Bob Castellini wants to win and is no Carl Lindner. Firing the manager alone doesn't seem like enough change to me. They will want to show this team can be a serious contender.
          - Everyone said the Reds didn't have the money to expand payroll last year. They did by $22 million. I think that shows that ownership realizes that more money is fixing to come into baseball and the Reds will get their ample share of it.

We're not even to the Winter Meetings yet. I have a feeling that the Reds will not let money be a deciding factor this offseason.

Here's how the payroll looks right now (couple assumptions, Pena replaces Hanigan, Schumaker replaces Paul, Hamilton makes the club)

          Guaranteed Contracts
          Votto ($12m)
          Phillips ($11m)
          Bruce ($10m)
          Cueto ($10m)
          Ludwick ($8.5m)
          Latos ($7.25m)
          Broxton ($7m)
          Chapman ($5.7m)
          Marshall ($5.5m)
          Schumaker ($2.5m)
          Ondrusek ($1.35m)
          Pena ($1.25m)
          Hannahan ($1m)

          Pre-Arbitration
          Cozart ($500k)
          Frazier ($500k)
          Mesoraco ($500k)
          Hoover ($500k)
          Cingrani ($500k)
          Hamilton ($500k)

Arbitration Eligible (with estimates from MLBTR)
          Bailey ($9.3m)
          Leake ($5.9m)
          Heisey ($1.7m)
          Simon ($1.6m)
          LeCure ($1m)

That would be $106 million for 24 players, leaving one roster slot. Do the Reds make a run at Choo? They keep saying that they will make a run at him.

Not a big concern, but my question is who backs up SS? Hannahan has played 24 major league inninings at short, and Schumaker is only a 2B/OF. Would Billy Hamilton be back up SS? Obviously he played most his minor league career there, so it would make sense, but they moved him for a reason. I figure Hamilton would function as back up SS because Cozart played in all but 11 games last year, and all but 24 in 2012. If Hamilton only had to fill in for less than a dozen games a year, I'm guessing the Reds wouldn't mind using him at SS. It's just been something that crossed my mind after the Schumaker singing...is that the general thinking?

Here's a name to keep in mind...Todd Frazier. He played 112 games at SS in the minors (which was his second most used position behind LF).

I thought Frazier did an excellent job in the field last year. He struggled offensively, but I didn't think he was bad defensively at all.
Hannahan would probably be the 3B if something happened where Frazier had to play SS. Lets just hope Cozart magically morphs into a great everyday player so we don't have to worry about who plays SS in case of an injury.

                      Hannahan

                      Struggled?????

He far from struggled at third last year. To my eye, he had a good year defensively at third. According to Ultimate Zone Rating, he was ranked 5th among all third baseman in Major League Baseball.

I just think he would really struggle short, I jus don't think he is very mobile looking.

Reds locked up Manny Parra to a 2 year, $5.5 million deal. He will earn $2 million in 2014 and $3.5 million in 2015. Considering the Giants just gave a 3 year, $13 million deal to Javier Lopez, I would say the Reds did a good job of locking up Parra here.

And apparently, the Reds are interested in Carlos Beltran.

What is up with these 2 year deals? The 1 key on the person typing them up broken? I agree though, I like the deal for the Reds and I just hope last year wasn't an anomaly (at least the second half).

I agree. But if they do touch him, they better only use him for the first half of the season and then trade him. He can't stay healthy in the second half and his stats drop way off. Personally, I like Beltran but I'd let him be somebody else's worry.
