re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
Devin's catching ERA came down because they only let him handle select pitchers a majority of the time this past season. They kept him away from the younger pitchers as much as they could, but he has also gotten much better since 2012 and did well covering for Hanigan while he was injured. He still calls a very bad game, but now that the staff is getting older they will shake him off more and he can hopefully come along quicker learning from a more veteran staff with more playing time. However he either needs to watch more film or get better at analyzing hitters on the film he does watch. Having him catch Latos, Leake and Chapman the last two years was a disaster. None worse than when he catches Chapman. But his base path defense and bat have a much greater upside than Hanigan.Last edited by Dogslax41; 12-04-2013, 02:18 PM.Comment

You're right, they aren't looking for a shortstop mainly because they already have one and it isn't Didi. They will likely bring up Chris Owings which means as amazing as Didi i, he is about to be out of a job unless they trade him.#WeAreUKComment

UZR really lmao dude sucks offensively and 9th OBP means nothing when your hitting 8th in the lineup and teams are pitching around you to face the pitcher. Im done with Hanigan he is no longer a Red sucks and is now gone bring on Mez and BarnhartLast edited by HustlinOwl; 12-04-2013, 02:33 PM.Comment

Pennington is likely the odd man out in Arizona. I am guessing that they will platoon Didi and Owings. Gibson has hinted that he thinks that Owings has more upside but Didi is too good to give up on.Comment

Just like the source.
I'm excited for Mez to get a shot. It's a risk, and a give and take (less defense, more offense, and younger). I think it'll work out for us. Our biggest needs still remain.
Word is Phillips has been assured he isn't being traded by Jocketty. The Phillips trade train got going damn fast, everyone's been posting like he's a dead man walking. Now a vote of confidence is rarely that, but I think unless we can get a king's ransom for him, it wouldn't be worth it. He's done a lot for this team, and he still is a damn good player. I wanna see what Price does with him. Could get a better deal during the year, too.
I have a bad feeling we're gonna have a very average year. We're talented but there seems to be turmoil. Our great hope is Votto putting up those MVP numbers again. I think a playoff spot or nothing rests on his performance, more so then it already does. I want him to just shut up these critics. I respect the discussions we've had here, it's a fundamental difference of opinion, but it would be great to put that stuff to bed with a monster of a year.
Still months away.
I can still taste last year's ending. Blegh!NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Don't get me wrong, I think its Mez's time and was the right move. Just curious what changed your mind the past 2 months not watching baseball?#WeAreUKComment

So 2 months ago you were stating how much better Hanigan is with the staff than Mez. Now you are glad they traded the worst catcher ever to play baseball (sarcasm) so Mez can be the everyday catcher?
