    Re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread

Matheny learned on the fly and took his team to the NLCS and WS his first 2 years. It isn't hard to manage a good team. The Reds just are not that strong with all of the injuries they are suffering.

Jocketty....on the other hand has more impact on the team. I think he will go to Arizona after the year with TLR, especially since he already owns a house out there.

        Re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread

Bob C still thinks they are a contender. I haven't seen that much faith in a team since Lou Brown.

And the reasoning they didn't make a move at the deadline.....didn't want to disrupt the team chemistry. That was what Bob C said, and Jocketty sort of alluded to it as well in the lead up to the deadline.

Jocketty has to go...I'm starting to wonder if Bob C is too old school as well to hire somebody to be GM with fresh ideas towards the use of analytics.

As for me.....football season is coming, and UK basketball is a few months down the pipeline (hell, Coach Cal is in this ad right now telling me to buy a Ford F-150 from Paul Miller Ford in Lexington).

Yeah I read that Castellini wouldn't sign off on a trade. Makes me wonder if he is tying Jocketty's hands or if Jocketty is just inept. He did wonders for the Cards, but hasn't done much at all since joining the Reds.

Jocketty needs to be gone. He has hurt the team. Votto, Broxton, Phillips, Marshall, Ludwick deals were all deals that shouldn't have been made, especially since the Reds are a "small market" team.

Also @ HustlinOwl, it's quite pathetic that you are continuing to blame Price for this mess. This year has been awful with injuries from the get go. It's easy to look back and say Dusty was better when all of his talent was healthy AND they had an elite leadoff guy in Choo last year. Nobody would have this team being a winner right now. Votto, Bruce, Phillips, Mesoraco, Chapman, Ludwick, Marshall, Latos, etc have all spent chunks of the year on the DL. Not to mention you have guys like Bruce that have regressed bigtime.

please Dusty dealt with the same sort of injuries in Votto and Cueto with no Latos for a couple years like I said those one run games Price is responsible for at least half of those losses

He lost Votto for 50 games in 2012. That's it. I don't know if you remember, but the rest of the team stepped up bigtime then. Ryan Ludwick was actually a decent player then. They had Scott Rolen at third and Frazier played everyday at first.
Last year was the first time Cueto missed a large part of the year as well. Baker didn't deal with half of the injuries Price has had the whole time he was a manager here.

Also, Baker won 74 and 78 games his first two years as manager? Were you trying to run him out of town?

I would actually be quite interested to hear HustlinOwl's thoughts on Dusty when he was winning less than 80 games?

This is quite telling of your thought process and why people in this thread should pay attention. Because you aren't reasonable and aren't willing to listen to other people's opinion, or in some cases, you won't even listen to facts. So there is no point in even debating with you.

Which is what I was alluding to the other day. You actually believe the stuff you are saying which leads me to believe you are a little set in your ways and it would be a waste of time trying to convince you otherwise.

But in the end, that's your prerogative to think that way. So have fun with it.

Agreed, the team IS in a lot worse shape. Hmm, I wonder why? I am sure it has nothing to do with having a GM that hasn't made even a handful of good moves since he got here. Probably has nothing to do with the plethora of injuries this team has dealt with this year. And yes, Price absolutely takes some blame. Of course any reasonable person would expect that though considering this is his first Managing role. But he does contribute to the bad year on some level.

But it is certainly NOT any worse because Dusty isn't here anymore. It's infinitely better even if that means we have to suffer through your Dusty homerism posts all too often.

And if those issues still exist, then why do you put 90% of the blame on Price who was merely a Pitching Coach last year? That doesn't make any logical sense.
