Re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
Agreed, the team IS in a lot worse shape. Hmm, I wonder why? I am sure it has nothing to do with having a GM that hasn't made even a handful of good moves since he got here. Probably has nothing to do with the plethora of injuries this team has dealt with this year. And yes, Price absolutely takes some blame. Of course any reasonable person would expect that though considering this is his first Managing role. But he does contribute to the bad year on some level.
But it is certainly NOT any worse because Dusty isn't here anymore. It's infinitely better even if that means we have to suffer through your Dusty homerism posts all too often.

Re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
Dusty would've gotten us how many more wins? We'd be at .500 instead of a couple under.
The majority of managers would've been sunk with this team and the injuries. This team is flawed and has been, but they were able to put together enough good performances to cover up those weaknesses to the tune of a couple 90+ win seasons.
Losing Choo was a killshot, IMO. Hamilton has held his own, but imagine having him/Choo in LF instead of the black hole that is Ludwick. Obviously, the financials didn't allow us to keep Choo, but it's been tough to know our season would be a lot different with someone like Choo setting the table. We would be a lot more competitive even with the injuries if we could replace Choo for Ludwick.
We've got some work to do to retool this team.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

I actually dont think any manager would have this team much better with all the injuries we have had to deal with. Yes Price has made some mistakes which was to be expected for a 1st time manager, but some years you just cant buy a break and this is one of those years.
Its definitely been a frustrating yr, and if we dont get things together the damn North Side Loser Cubs are going to catch us, and that will be a real embarrassment if that happens.
If your going to blame anyone other than the players this year, then Walt is the one who should blamed. I have always been a fan of Walt, but when you look at all the scrubs he has brought in at Louisville its easy to see why we have no backup protection for injuries.
We've had pretty good luck over the last few years of staying relatively healthy, but its caught up to us this year. I dont think you can judge Price fairly on this season with all the injury issues. Only thing that I feel can be put on the manager or any of the coaching staff is Steve Smith the 3rd base coach, he has probably coast us a few games this year. IMO Steve Smith should be fired, because of how poorly he has done his job, but other than that I dont feel its fair to judge Price or the hitting coach this yr. Its not like Jacoby was worth a damn either as hitting coach, and I think our lack of offense has more to do with the players not being very good than it does the teachers anyway.Everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11

Re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
Yes all teams have injuries, and the good teams are able to overcome them, were just not a good team with all the injuries we have sustained this year.
Good teams tend to have backups that are atleast competent, but we dont. Were very thin when it comes to depth in the organization, and have been for a while now. Fortunately until this year we had stayed relatively healthy, so our lack of depth didnt show.
Hopefully we are able to make some moves this offseason to help where we lack, and were able to stay healthy and Votto gets back to being the Votto we all know.
You figure with Latos, Cueto and Leake due to be FA, we need to have some urgency come next season if we want to make a serious run. NL Central isnt going to get any easier with the North Side Loser Cubs looking like they might finally be not so much of a joke, so we need to get things together.Everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11

well fellas, it looks like Junketty is back with the Reds. That sucks, was hoping he would follow LaRussa and we might get lucky and get a GM that would actually do stuff.#WeAreUKComment

Re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
Walt has done some good things, but basically all of our major league talent was Wayne Kryski's. The Latos trade was a good move Walt made, and picking Simon up has turned out to be a good one. I thought the addition of Pena and Skip were both solid moves by him.
Probably my biggest gripe is how Walt lets us play shorthanded quite often before putting someone on the DL, he did it to Dusty with Rolen and he has done it to Price this year.
I know a lot of fans have been upset at the lack of trade deadline moves under walt to boost the club, but I do think he attempts too, but dont want to give up little talent we have in the farm for a rental, so I dont blame him too much on that. Not blocking the Marlon Byrd trade last year is really the one that bothered me, cause not only could it have help our offense it would have kept the Pirates from getting him, and he had a tremendous impact for them, so no reason not to think he would have had the same for us. I know Dusty was even upset by that whole thing, and thought Walt should have blocked it.
As far as not making any move this year, I think Walt seen the writing on the wall that it was probably a lost cause with all the injuries, so I cant blame him for doing nothing this year at trade deadline, but last year I do blame him.
I do think this winter there needs to be a urgency to boost this offense by finding a LF'er that can hit, and possibly a ss that can hit, along with improving the bench. Not too concerned at ss because defense is the most important thing at ss and Cozart is GG caliber defensively. A bat in LF preferably a run producer is what we need. I like Luddy but they need to buy him out and send him on his way. We have next yr with the rotation intact before we could lose 1 or more of them and BP and Votto arent getting any younger, so we need to make next yr count, and hopefully we stay healthy and Votto gets back to being what he was before his knee injury in 12.Everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11

Re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
LOL, yeah Bruce has really been bad this year. He has not only regressed offensively, his defense hasnt been all that great either compared to in the past.
When the North Side losers went up 1-0 I told my wife the game was over we wouldnt be able to come back, lol. She said why whats the score and I said 1-0, for us thats like being down 4 or 5 runs.
I have gave Price the benefit this year since we have had a slew of injuries to key guys, but 1 thing that really irks me is him saying he didnt believe in personal catchers, which I agree with 100%, yet Pena has been Cueto's personal catcher, as Mez has only caught him I think once this year, maybe 2 times. With as bad as our offense is and Mez basically being the best hitter on the team, he should be playing all the time, except for when he needs a break. I like Pena and think he has done a greta job for us, but he isnt close to being as good as Mez, and we need allt he offense we can get.Everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11

Glad we could pull out a series win against the Scabs from the North Side, I was getting worried after we lost that 1st game. I hate losing ever, but it really eats at me whenever we lose a game to the biggest joke of baseball. I probably enjoy seeing the Cubs lose more than I do seeing us winEveryone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11
