Re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
Just one person's opinion: http://m.bleacherreport.com/articles...ouis-cardinals
Found it while looking for the comments Edmonds made. I don't really remember some of that stuff but I do remember Edmonds being hurt and contributing little to nothing to the Reds.
Yeah he didnt do much for us in way of on field performance thats for sure. What he did do is during that time Stubbs actually look halfway descnet I do remember that and some gave Edmonds credit for helping Stubbs as well as Bruce that season, as both hit better once Edmonds got there.
When Edmonds blew off at the mouth I just took it as being disgruntle and needing to blame someone other than admitting he was washed up. I had for got what he said about BP, I just remember him ripping the medical staff of the Reds.
After the whole Madsen ordeal and then Votto having what was considered relatively minor knee surgery, and nothing that would threaten a career, yet he hasnt seemed right since he got hurt in 12, I have started to wonder if Edmonds might be on to something with the medical staff. Personally I always thought Edmonds was a Ahole, so thats why I didnt put much faith into it until last year really.Everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11

Third base coach Steve Smith got thrown out of today's game.
Weird....it's usually other Reds that get thrown out because of Steve Smith.Comment

Nah, just in reference to being shut out twice by the Scrubs and nearly no hit. This team has become laughable to me, unfortunately.
But maybe tonight they can get no hit. I think they're trying for it.#WeAreUKComment

How about setting a team record for fewest runs scored in a 3-game series at Wrigley with 1 run? Nice sweep by the Cubs against a punchless group of Reds hitters.MLB: Cincinnati Reds

Sigh...
I'm not happy with how this season went but they've had injuries to important players, a front office that didn't help much at all, and a manager in his first year. I don't think Price deserves to be fired after one season considering what kind of hand he was dealt. His opening day lineup played together 12 times all season. That's absurd.
Take a deep breath, turn on football, and let's see what kind of pieces the Reds bring in this fall and winter for next season.MLB: Cincinnati Reds

Yeah, its not fair to judge Price with the hand he was dealt this year with all the injuries. He made some mistakes as manager, but he nor the coaching are the reason for this miserable season.
There has to be some changes with the roster though, cause Im not sure even with a fully healthy team we have enough to win a World Series with as bad as our offense is. Cause even with a fully healthy team its not like this team has been good offensively over the last few years, pitching is what has gotten us as far as we have got. Fix the Bullpen which shoudl be the easiest thing to do this winter, and go out and get a bat or 2, which will be the tough part to do, but even if you have to give up a little pitching, its got to be done for us to have any chance. Dont matter how great your pitching is if you cant put any runs on the board consistently.Everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11

tired of hearing the injury excuse, Price is a lame duck manager, him, the hitting coach, 3B coach and Walt can all go ASAPComment

Re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
Injuries are legitimate. If you're in charge of running a team and had planned on having certain pieces to produce a significant portion of your offense or pitching throughout the year but then they get hurt rendering them unavailable, or not functioning at 100%, to produce those results, what can you do? Outside of trading what few prospects you have to replace that production, you're pretty much screwed unless you can get healthy guys to produce higher than they were expected to.MLB: Cincinnati Reds

Re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
I dont disagree that Price made some mistakes, as well as our 3rd base coach making quite a few mistakes. I have even been down on Walt although I dont blame him for not doing much this year, I think the FO as well a ownership seen this season was doomed so they didnt bother to try an improve it.
It wouldnt have mattered who the manager was or who the coaching staff was this season, when you dont have depth and get hit with injuries your not going to contend. Thats strickly on Walt cause he gives the manager the players to play with, and all you have to do is look in the minors and see all the scrubs Walt signs like the likes of Jeff Francis, Matt Maloney, etc. Of course a few players that have some experience in the minors is good, but Louisville was full of never has beens, never will be's.
Walt's not done all bad though, he has made a few moves that have help in his time here, like bringin in Scott Rolen when he did to help mentor some of the young guys. He also added Ludwick which help big time in 12, he just shouldnt have given him the contract he gave him after that season. He also picked Simon up off the scrap heap and he has been a pleasant surprise during his time out of the pen, and then stepping in as a starter this yr. So its not all been bad.
Although the core of this team has Wayne Krisky's prints on it and not really Walt, but Walt has did some good things.
Dont get me wrong if Walt is let go at seasons end I wont be disappointed to much, depending on who became GM that is. I always have had a feeling Eric Davis might be being mentored to be the GM, and as much as I like Eric Davis, not sure I want him as GM but maybe he proves me wrong if he gets it which would be great if he did.Everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11
