Re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
Crazy how good Hoover had been for us up until this year. I dont know why they continue to run him out there, obviously he isnt going to get better this year so quit running him out there.
It seems Price is as patient with struggling pitchers as Dusty was with struggling hitters. Its getting very frutrating to see Price continue to run Hoover out there.Everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11

Officially heading to Cincinnati in October!
It's for business, but there will be considerable downtime. Was going to go for my bachelor party in August, but there was too much going on with my guys for us to make it. Honestly, with the way this team fell apart, I didn't wanna see them in that state.
Obviously, the season will be over. But any good Reds related stuff to check out? I'm only a Reds fan, not Bengals or college guy. I don't know when I'll ever be back out there so I want to make sure I check some stuff off even if there's no games.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
Definitely check out the Reds HOF. I'm honestly not sure what else Reds-wise there is to do in October when they aren't playing. People here will have shifted to high school football, the Bengals, and getting ready for college hoops. The Cyclones might be playing then if you like hockey.MLB: Cincinnati Reds
NFL: Cincinnati Bengals
NCAA Hoops: Xavier Musketeers
NCAA Football: Miami Hurricanes
NHL: Calgary Flames

By the way, there are lots of restaurants and bars to check out as well as the Horseshoe Casino downtown if you're looking to kill some time. Hell I'll even meet you somewhere for a beer or whatever.MLB: Cincinnati Reds

I don't know when I'll ever be back out there so I want to make sure I check some stuff off even if there's no games. They also have very good food too. Cincinnati has a lot of good places to eat actually. Rock Bottom at Fountain Square is another good place for good beer and food. I havent ever made it to Morton's Steak House yet when I have been to Cincinnati, but I have heard Votto goes there. If you stay at the Westin, Mckormick & Scmidt is a great place to eat. The Westin is where I stay when I go to see the Reds, its where all the away teams stay when they play the Reds, and its the closest Hotel to GABP too.
Holy Grail is a good place to go to as well and its right across from the Reds HOF. Matter of fact on Wednesday evenings thats where the Hot Stove League show is at most every week, and at times Marty will have a Reds player there that lives in or near Cincinnati year round to talk.Everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11

Re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
I haven't been to Cincinnati in 18 years but I have one recommendation that anyone in this thread would likely agree with. See if you can find Jocketty and smack the crap out of him. Then find Hoover and ask him to retire. Following that, see if you can get an autograph baseball of Crusty Baker for HustlinOwl. I am sure he would treasure itComment

Well, there's a little bit of an experience gap between the two of them. I don't think you really said anything, there.

Re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
Dusty wouldnt have this team in any better shape this year than what Price has. Dusty would have probably won a few more games just based on his experience, but we would still be very piss poor with all the injuries, and how poorly the Bullpen has pitched. I dont think even any great manager like Larussa or Sparky could have won with this team this year.
Price has definitely made some mistakes in his 1st yr as any rookie manager who has never managed at any level would, but the manager wasnt the problem this year, nor was the manager all to blame the last few years with lack of success in the postseason.
If there is anyone outside of the players who deserve blame for this season, or the lack of success in the postseason the last few years, its the GM. Managers have to play the rosters that the GM gives him. Im one who has been a fan of Jocketty, but he hasnt imo always given his manager the best roster to work with the past few years.
I think Dusty did a pretty good job with what he had to work with while managing for us, and imo he did his best managing of his career with the Reds. While Price has had to learn on the job, this year with all the injuries and the GM not willing to go out and get some help, isnt a fair assessment of Price's managing ability. I think Bryan will learn from the mistakes of this year and the struggle its been this season, and be better for it down the line.
Clearly we dont have enough talent in the organization to be successful, especially when we lose key guys to injuries. Great teams tend to be deep enough to sustain injuries thruout the season and stay afloat, and we found out this year that were just not a great team. Basically with the roster as is we need a perfect storm to happen and stay healthy to be a contender, and unfortunately that didnt happen.Everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11

Re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
I have wondered since we lost our strength and conditioning coach this past offseason if that doesnt have something to do with all the injuries this season. Could just be a coincidence, but it does make you wonder. Every once in a while you will have a season where you get but with the injury bug and it can happen to any team. Texas has been decimated by injury even more than we have this year.
I have had questions about our medical staff since Jim Edmonds made the comments he made. At 1st I thought he was just blowing off needing someone to blame for him being washed up, but then I have seen some odd things happen like Votto's knee surgery which was suppose to be relatively minor, yet he seems like he has never recovered fully from it. I think that same year Lance Berkmen had the same surgery and yet he seemed fine when he came back, and others have had that surgery and healed fully. Plus there has been some other oddities since Edmonds made the comments he did about the Reds medical staff that has me wondering. I know Kremchek is supposedly highly thought of, but I do have my doubts about him anymore.Everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11
