Quit bitching just because Broxton gave up a home run. He's been dominant all year. Cespedes is a righty too. If he brought Chapman in and he gave up it you would be saying how it was a terrible decision.

The 2003 Detroit Tigers, one of the worst teams in baseball history (43-119) had an above .500 record in one-run games. So by your rationale, Alan Trammell is a baseball genious compared to Price? The 2003 Reds also had an above .500 record in one-run games that season despite losing 93 games. But Bob Boone was a great in-game tactician, he was +9 in one run games! (See I can make blanket statements too)

You can't look at just one factor and say "that's just bad managing".

This Reds team just isn't that good.

I know for the NFL 1 score game records aren't indicative or predictive of anything season to season. In fact, it tends to come back to earth whether that's in the form of more losses or wins the following season.

Do I think Price has work to do as a manager? Yup. Do I think he's laid a solid foundation? Absolutely. I really like his forward-thinking approach. It's easier to stomach a bad season when you know your manager is trying to change things up instead of waiting for momentum (non-existent) or pure luck to finally kick in. I think Joe Maddon in TB is a good example. He brought a different approach to the game to the organization (and they filled their front office with executives of the same ilk) and had paid dividends for them. They were a laughingstock for their first 15 years. Now they've been a model of consistency in a gauntlet division for close to 10 years. The high picks turning into valuable MLB players helped, but they needed someone to get the most out of their players.

Price is learning on the job. It's never fair to give a player or manager or GM one year to prove themselves. It takes time and experience, and despite a tough season, Price is low on the list of reasons as to why we can't put together a consistent stretch or climb farther past .500.

Read baseball:inside the numbers and you'll see baseball managers have very little outcome on wins/losses. In general, all managers make roughly the same decisions given the same situations and they all make the "calculated" wrong decisions. So the majority of managers are "costing" their teams wins and no manager has actually made their team play better given the decisions they make. No manager uses their best bullpen guys against the hard part of the order, or bats their best hitters 2nd, or NEVER bunt, etc.

It'd be like me saying Matheny is a good manager, because we have a good record in one run games. In reality, our w-l is good in those games due to our pitching and bullpen. Plus when you can't score much, you generally only win those low scoring games anyways.

No but that doesn't surprise me. I do know that there is a FB group for Reds fans that's more of a support group than a supporters group. I haven't joined up although my cousin has encouraged me to do so since he is a member.
