Nah, he needed to do some throwing before his start on Thursday. It was decided Schilling would pitch today before the game.

Papelbon has been fantastic. I'm really enjoying his starts. Nice bunt by Big Papi!

They said on the Angel broadcast that Francona would only use him if needed, guess they were wrong.

            Forfeit flap looms for Yanks

Can't wait for George Steinbrenner's reaction to this: The White Sox have voted unanimously to forfeit last Sunday's rained-out game with the Red Sox rather than play a makeup game on Labor Day, meaning it is possible the AL East could be decided by a free victory for Boston.

League sources, however, say they expect Bud Selig to force the teams to play the game after the regular season if it has any bearing on the playoffs, although that might not be an attractive option for either team since it would throw their playoff preparations into chaos.

The issue arose because both the White Sox and Red Sox would be playing on more than 20 consecutive days, which they would have to do if the game is played on Sept. 5. Under terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, teams do not have to play on more than 20 straight days. The White Sox, who've all but secured the AL Central, are relucant to give up their day off and fly to Boston in the middle of a home stand.

Entering the weekend, the Yankees were four games behind the Red Sox. The division title - and perhaps a playoff spot - could come down to the final three games of the season, when the two clubs meet at Fenway.

Last year, the Yankees were involved in another forfeit flap, when the Devil Rays missed their flight to New York in September due to Hurricane Frances. Though the Yankees made a stink, there was no forfeit and the game was played later that week.

            LMFAO!!!!!

They better well play that game, if it does indeed have playoff implications.

If the White Sox don't want to play, Selig can't make them.

                Just don't show up.

C'mon, Vtek, its obviously great for th Sox in the standing and gives us an extra advantage, but it is totally unfair if it has playoff implications. If we win this division finally, I want to earn it 100%.

Thats kind of amusing. If the White Sox really want to forfeit, there's not much Selig can do. And if he can force them to play, you'll probably see the White Sox just play all of their September call-ups anyways.

So just because of 1 extra win the 161 games won't matter? I know what you're saying, but I'm a "by any means necessery" type of guy.

Peter Gammons reported this morning on WEEI then when he becomes a free agent, AJ Burnett's #1 choice is Boston. He said if the Sox were to offer him [Burnett] a contract that was anything close (below or above) what other teams offer, he'd take the Red Sox offer.

it will matter if the yankees are a game above the sox by the end of the season and they get that extra game

Very good news from a very reliable source. We ened to get younger in the SP department, and I could see Arroyo, Clement, Wells, and Burnett in a rotation headed by Schilling nect year. And you'll have Palpebon if you need.

If they Yankees are ahead by a game when the season ends and the WS forfeit, Yankees still win the division, because that only give us .5 a game on the Yanks. If they're ahead by a half game(if that's possible when the season ends) then it will matter.
