I believe Doc's only allowed one or two earned runs in the past 32 innings. He's almost gone 18 innings without allowing a run.
Today only 3 balls made it to the OF. Only 5 AB's went to Ball 2 for the Twins today.
This CG was ever better than the one he had against the Yanks earlier this season.Last edited by VanCitySportsGuy; 05-29-2005, 04:45 PM.Comment

Well I just read that Dave Bush is going down to Triple A.
At least we'll be able to see Chad Gaudin start for the Jays as he was called up having a 3-2 record and 2.48 ERA in Syracuse.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

I didn't see the whole game as I went to play hoops later, but his Curve looked really filthy from what I saw. Anyone who argues that this guy is not one of the top 2 pitchers in the AL, is out of their mind.Comment

Man Gaudin was just smokin' tonight. This kid has an amazing slider that Jamie and Candioti compared to Dave Stieb's slider. I wouldn't say it's THAT good but it's definitely the best slider on the Jays staff right now.
Nice to see the team have an offensive explosion and VW hits 2 bombs WOOHOO!Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Jays will have the brooms out today in Chicago, I'm hoping the Jays can stay hot and sweep the struggling Astros, but we will have to wait and see.Owner, Spear Interactive

Re: Official Toronto Blue Jays "Birds Nest" Thread
I've been thinking about JP's tenure as the Jays GM so far and I'm not sure if his draft strategy is the right one.
He's been at the helm for 4 drafts now and each year he has heavily drafted 4 year College seniors.
When JP took over, the farm system was empty so I understand what he did by taking college players to quickly restock the system. College players generally reach the Majors a lot quicker than HS'ers.
Before this years draft the Jays farm system has a lot of depth on the pitching side but pretty empty on the hitting side. Instead of taking a 5 tool HS talent like Maybin he took the college pitcher, Ricky Romero instead.
The players JP drafts are solid players but very few of them have high ceilings. Even with the promised increased in payroll the Jays will still be far behind the Red Sox and Yanks. I just question his safe approach. Drafting safe players will most likely get you league average production. I feel like the Jays would have been better off rolling the dice on more HS'ers. A good example is would you rather have 5 Gabe Gross's or 1 Vernon Wells and 4 Miguel Negrons.
Using the safe strategy isn't likely going to topple the Red Sox and Yanks. I felt like the Jays were better off going with the high risk/high reward method this season. The number 6th pick was a huge asset for the Jays. I hope JP didn't screw up.Comment

Re: Official Toronto Blue Jays "Birds Nest" Thread
I think JP thinks that getting position players via trade/Free Agency would be easier then gambling on them in the draft. Pitching is pretty hard to get because it's such an overpriced position in baseball.
At least JP is taking a modified Atlanta approach by stocking up on pitching. Pitching will always make you a contender no matter how bad the hitting is. (unless it's very anemic)
As for not having stars, well I dunno I have a feeling Aaron Hill could definitely be a star in the big leagues especially if/when he gets his power stroke.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
