Re: Official Toronto Blue Jays "Birds Nest" Thread
So what you guys think JP will do? I guess he'll have to call up one of the AAA guys and see if we can get an arm before the trade deadline.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Sucks that Gross was sent down. His defense has saved us at least 2 ball games the past few weeks. I would've hoped that Hinske be released.Comment

Re: Official Toronto Blue Jays "Birds Nest" Thread
well.....that was a wasted opportunity.
If only the pitching had been a bit better we'd have easily won all 3 games.
Too bad Gross got sent down he was really making a name for himself on the big club for a while there.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Official Toronto Blue Jays "Birds Nest" Thread
DETROIT -- Both the Cleveland Indians and the Minnesota Twins are interested in Blue Jays all-star Shea Hillenbrand.
Until now, the Jays have declined any offers for Hillenbrand. Whether the injury to Roy Halladay -- which will see him miss four or five starts -- affects the Jays' hopes for 2005 remains to be seen.
The Twins had Larry Corrigan, special assistant to Twins general manager Terry Ryan, scouting the Jays last month at the Rogers Centre, and again in Washington, D.C. The Twins confirmed yesterday that they are looking to add a bat as they try to hold on to the American League wild-card spot.
Two years ago, on the eve of the all-star game, the Jays sent outfielder Shannon Stewart to the Twins for Bobby Kielty, who was later dealt to the Oakland A's for lefty Ted Lilly.
Stewart was credited with the Twins' second-half surge and finished fourth in the American League most valuable player race.
The Indians, meanwhile, had catcher Ryan Garko playing in the Futures Game yesterday. Garko is hitting .271 with 13 homers and 45 RBIs at triple-A Buffalo. But as good as he is offensively, scouts say his defensive abilities are suspect.
On another front, the Jays have had a scout in Texas recently watching the Rangers, who are interested in reacquiring outfielder Frank Catanalotto.

Re: Official Toronto Blue Jays "Birds Nest" Thread
I would gladly trade away Hillenbrand and the Cat.
Hillenbrand will be going into arbitration after this season. If you take away the month of April, his stats are pretty poor. The Jays don't need anymore "solid" players like Hillenbrand. They need top notch players. The current Jays have an average team hence an average record. Despite only being 5.5 games back of first in the division, this squad has no hope to make the playoffs this year.
The Cat should be dealt to give Gross a long look to see if he's good enough for the Majors.
If they're able to clear salary through trading those 2 players, then it gives them more money to go after guys like Burnett and Carlos Lee in the off-season.Comment

Re: Official Toronto Blue Jays "Birds Nest" Thread
I heard on WEEI this morning that the Jays are likely to acquire Burnett for Chacin and possibly something else. The deal would be contigent on the Jays being able to sign Burnett. Anyone else hear these rumors?Comment

Yep,
As I said in the main baseball forum that this could be a very good deal for the Jays if they also re-sign Lilly. The Jays would have a very good starting rotation of Halladay, Burnett, Lilly, Bush and one of the AAA guys.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Official Toronto Blue Jays "Birds Nest" Thread
Geez Mike Wilner (FAN 590) had to go and jinx the Jays by saying the Rays were the worst team in all of baseball.
Oh well on a funny note John Wells (TSN) forgot that the 70s ended almost 40 yrs ago. :y4:Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
