Jeff Blair said JP is going to target Burnett (assuming he's not traded) and Washburn in the off-season.

I'm not a fan of Washburn. He'll probably go for 7.5-8.5 mil a season and I think it would be a waste of money.

I see you browse Chris Creamer's logo forums. I love that uniform set but i'd add some red to the logo. Other then that i'd buy that set. It incorporate the old late 80s-mid 90s uniform with the '97 era set. (BTW I think that set was the best in Blue Jays history. I don't know why they sh!tcanned it)

Did Arnsberg coach Burnnett? If so I think that would be a great signing. I'm not sure Washburn would be a good fit for the Jays. At least he'd be a solid 3rd or 4th starter. JP is really building up on the pitching which is good but the more I think about it he seems to be working on the Atlanta model. We don't have any breakout batting stars (at least not yet)

That was a tough loss. Didn't expect Pete to completly implode like that.

Yes Arnsberg use to be his pitching coach. The Jays are one of the teams AJ wants to be traded to. It looks like the O's turned down the Marlin's trade offer. Outside of Romero, Hill, Doc, and Wells, everybody else in the organization should be made available for AJ.

The Jays don't even have one legit high ceiling hitter in the minors. The only player showing power is Chip Cannon but he's down in A ball and is really old for his league. I predict once he goes to AA, his power takes a big dip. It's pretty clear to me Gabe Gross isn't in the Jays long term plans. JP said if he was going to be with the big club he wouldn't rot on the bench but that's whats happening right now.

JP should go after Carlos Lee in the off-season. The Jays badly need a slugger in the line-up. The Jays power is so brutal it looks like only one player will hit at least 18 HR's.

Because the Jays have the most money to spend this off-season (I doubt the Yanks will add another 30 mil in payroll), I'm going to be extremely disappointed if we don't get a 30+HR/100+ RBI slugger and a legit 2 number starter.

Re: Official Toronto Blue Jays "Birds Nest" Thread

If the Jays want to contend for the division/wild card than the next 3 weeks is going to tell us where they really stand.

Between the 4 teams in the AL East race, the Jays have the easist schedule up to the all-star break

                Jays: 3 vs. A's (H), 3 vs. Rangers (R)
                O's: 2 vs. Yanks (R), 4 vs. Red Sox (H)
                Red Sox: 4 vs. Rangers (R), 4 vs. O's (R)
                Yanks: 2 vs. O's (H), 4 vs. Indians (R)

The schedule Gods are even nicer to the Jays after the all-star break.

                Jays: 4 vs. D-Rays (H), 3 vs. Mariners (H), 3 vs. Royals (R)
                O's: 4 vs. Mariners (R), 3 vs. Twins (R), 3 vs. D-Rays (R)
                Red Sox: 4 vs. Yanks (H), 3 vs. D-Rays (H), 4 vs. White Sox (R)
                Yanks: 4 vs. Red Sox (R), 3 vs. Rangers (R), 4 vs. Angels (R)

So to sum it up after the all-star break:

Jays have 7 Home Games/3 Road Games
                O's have 0 Home Games/10 Road Games
Red Sox have 7 Home Games/4 Road Games
Yanks have 0 Home Games/11 Road Games

Re: Official Toronto Blue Jays "Birds Nest" Thread

Er, i'd say the Jays have the toughest schedule leading up to the All Star Break. The A's are hot and the Rangers are fighting for their playoff lives. I do agree that this will tell us whether the Jays are contenders or not.

This division feels like the 1972 NL East where all the teams weren't that great but you need a winner. It's not so bad for the AL East but there's no real dominant team.

Thank goodness we won today tho, Miggy nearly coughed up a furball.

I agree with this. I was listening to the pre pregame show last night and Mike Wilner was talking about how bad this offense is. He pro-rated the lineup and Wells would be the only 30 HR guy. There would only be one 80 RBI guy and Hinske and Hill would both score 98 runs. The power numbers are just putrid.

On the positive side, Halladay is pro-rated to win 22 games, Lilly, Chacin and Towers are pro-rated to win 12 games. Batista would get 26 Saves.

Simply put, that was a season defining play by V-Dub and Zaun.

As each day goes by, I'm hoping and praying that Eric is put on assigment in the minors and we either trade him, or let him go. Especially since O-Dogg is starting to hit well, I don't think he should be traded. Trading Eric would free up the 1st base slot for Shea with Koskie and Hill platooning at DH/3rd base.

Don't forget that Gabe Gross play against Tampa. I felt that was probably as important, if not more, than the play on Sunday. If they didn't make that play in extra innings, that would've been a huge morale blow to the Jays.

And yes... sadly, Hinske just never regained his Rookie of the Year form back in '01...

All in all, good win for the Jays today, taking 2 of 3 from the Sox, though Batista cut it kinda close in the 9th... it'll be interesting to see how they do against the A's and Rangers, and how they do against those bottom-of-the-barrel teams in Seattle, Tampa Bay, and Kansas City, whom seems to get the best of them (if I remember correctly, the M's already took 3 of 4 from the Jays this season).

How we do in the next 2 weeks will be key and will determine if we're buyers or sellers at the deadline.

Actually no matter what happenes we won't be sellers. JP would only make that kind of move if he can get good solid prospects who are MLB ready in the near future.

True. I could see us trading a guy like Lilly for a team that needs a decent back of the rotation type guy.

Well, I think that JP will hold on to Lilly until the offseason at the very least. Since arms would be a scarcity at that point, which would drive Lilly's value up.

There's no way we'll sell. How often are we going to get an opportunity like this where we actually have a pretty good chance at contention, especially in this division?
