    Re: 2012 Recruiting Thread

    Really?

    Don't call me "Sha-bazz"
It’s not that Shabazz Muhammad is being difficult or “Hollywood” or even a primo prima donna, he’s merely saying that come springtime he wants the college that receives his signed scholarship to be able to pronounce the name that’s on it.

    Fair enough.
“I absolutely can’t stand when people in general pronounce my name wrong,” said Muhammad, the top player in the ESPNU 100. “But when coaches do it, it’s really surprising honestly. Throughout my recruitment it’s happened a lot, but a school that just keeps on doing it, they’re pretty much off the list.”

Most mistakenly pronounce Muhammad’s first name Shuh-BAZZ because of the way it’s spelled, but Shabazz is pronounced Shuh-BOZZ.

“I’m used to it because people mispronounce my name all the time,” said Muhammad, a senior swingman at Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas). “I understand because of the spelling of it so I’ll let it slide if it’s once or twice, but I’ll politely correct them if it goes past that. But coaches recruiting me, I’d think they would get it right. Seems like you’d want to get that right.”

Muhammad’s name pronunciation mishaps are similar to what North Carolina freshman guard P.J. Hairston said he went through when Duke recruited him in high school.

Hairston said that when Coach K and Co. would send him recruitment letters they’d write “T.J. Harrison,” which eventually made him sour on the Blue Devils.

Apparently, they learned from the alleged slip-up because Muhammad said Duke has never mispronounced his name. The same can’t be said for all of the schools – UCLA, Kentucky, Kansas, Texas A&M, Arizona and UNLV – on his list.

    The two guilty parties?

    Kentucky and Kansas.

“Coach (Bill) Self said it wrong when I went there at Kansas, and I think he realized it pretty quick and changed it to the right pronunciation,” Muhammad said. “Then one of the assistants at Kentucky said it wrong on a visit and Coach (John) Calipari said it the right way real quick. Then the assistant caught on after that.”
    Shuh-bozz

Its not the coaches fault he pronounces his own name wrong.

My name is spelled Steve but its pronounced HIZEN-rip-BAUER.

I don't think I've Kyle Wiljers name pronounced or spelled the same way twice since we was recruited. His name was butchered at the McD's

Anthony Bennet is attending Friday's game against Portland. Night not matter much, I hear Bennett is having trouble getting the minimum score on his ACT

Gtown signed 5* Guard D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera a few weeks back. Not an above the rim athlete but strong and knows how to play. We're still in the running for Devonta Pollard and Tony Parker. Pollard will be at the Bama-Gtown game.

I really want Pollard. We need someone to replace Mitchell most likely after this season.

Smith-Rivera is a damn good player for Oak Hill, he plays next to Tyler Lewis (NCSU recruit) and they are an excellent tandem. I think he would have committed to NCSU if we didn't land Purvis, but I think Smith-Rivera is a very talented player from what I have saw.

With Cleveland Cavs and Indiana Pacers scouts and college coaches in attendance, Mitch McGary had a horrible showing at the National Prep Showcase over the weekend. I think in Day 1, he had 0 points and 2 rebounds.

TJ Warren, Jakarr Sampson and Semaj Christon had great showings for Brewster.

Ricky Ledo dropped 37 on one of the days.

No telling how the collective bargaining agreement is going to affect the class of 2012.

My sources say that Anthony Bennett is now really big on Kentucky as is Shabaz Mohamed all of the sudden, while Pollard has dropped Kentucky off his list entirely.

That said, I wonder what these recruits would decide knowing that all of UK's freshmetn will be back next year due to the Proposed "Two & Through" rule requiring 2 year waiting period after H.S before declaring for the draft.

Owners want it, but the NBAPA want instant eligibilty right out'a HS. I saw the tenative agreement where the players would get 51.6% revenue which is relatively much much more than the 50-50 that Stern throu at'em, so I'm thinking the owners will get their 2&through. Makes sense, owners won't have to shell out as much money for travel expenses and personel to scout H.S. and risk million $ contracts on 17, 18, and 19 year olds.

                          Sounds like an average night.

UK is really turning up the heat both #3Randle and #2Noel. Call went to scout #1Jabari Parker as well. Looks like the #4 and #6 Harrison Twins are all but wrapped up. Imagine if that were a recruiting class!

#8Chris Walker publicly complained about UK not paying him any attention?? Calipari is the only recruiter where H.S. players act like gilted girls when they don't get his attention. Same thing happened in tweets from Tony Wroten and Quincy Miller last year

Boy!! Polythress's numbers are staggering! He is out-stat'ing just about everyone on the ESPNU50 list, including Mohamed. 36pts, 25reb's, 5blks!!

Their seems to be some discord in the Randle-Noels-Parker triangle of UK's recruiting efforts. UK's visit and comments following Noels's visit, then a next day vist to Randle with similiar comments by the media, and another next day visit by Calipari to see Parker play seemed to really upset Randle. Maybe Randle is getting that middle-child complex. Word is that he is insisting on being gaurunteed starting Position and an offense that runs through him, which would be difficult alongside Noels and Parker, Calipari would never offer that regardless

I hate it when these HS pre-madonna's get jealous of each other's attention! If they act like that, wonder what they will be like in the Locker-Room??

I definitely see Ricky Ledo moving up in rankings and Mitch McGary slipping down before it's all said and done.

Also, TJ Warren is having a great year so far for Brewster.
