Re: NBA 2K16 Teach Me How/Strategy Thread

My D collapses and guy is getting plenty of open looks.

I'd like to know if there is another way to stop him (for example zone defense) i might be able to check.

I know im not gonna deny all his looks, and sometimes its realistic that defense will collapse, but with all that focus on defending single guy I still feel like i should be able to do more.
I'm putting "old" KG on Bosh, I also have Hibbert, Granger, Perkins and Olynyk down-low. But KG seems best pick for it.

When I switch to a zone defense and let's I go back down the floor and score. The defense is automatically going into a full court press. Am I missing something here? Because it seems to do this even I decide to Half Court Trap.

Go watch Da_Czar's video. It's called Strategy Session 7: On Ball Defense. It will take your defense to the next level.

Imma tell you what helped me! I was having the same problem. So last night I went back and read OG's post about the defense. He explains all of the new defensive improvements. Once I understood the improvements I began dominating on defense. The main to take from it is how the defense operates now. Especially the rotations. The part of the post where he explains the pre-rotate feature. This will help when your to breakdown. But you have to be careful because he also mentions no making to many changes because it confuses your defense. Don't get me wrong you can change a lot. Just remember that you can't completely shut down the entire team. Just decide what you are willing to give up and use your time outs to make adjustments. You have to be the coach and the player. Also, try to do things that make sense. For example. You can't force a Center middle then turn your post defense to front the post on the that same C. See what I'm saying. This should help you start to understand the game. Once you get you're going to really appreciate the game.

I switched down to Allstar and still can not win. I have played 20 games now 18 on Superstar Sim and 2 on Allstar Sim and lost every single one of them. Granted I don't lose by 10 points anymore like I did on Superstar, I only lose by 2 or 1 but still. I just can not defend and the AI that is defending for me must be drunk or you get massively punished for players with low defensive consistency but then why do I get massacred by the Lakers and Knicks? How is it that Jose Calderon dodges every single pick from the first second I start playing till the last. How is it that everything I do seems to be absolute rubbish? So I think this game just isn't for me. Unless someone can teach me to defend and get me some help I'm just gonna delete it. Shame I can not gift it on steam anymore.

Btw. Why does my coach stop calling any plays from the end of the first quarter onward till basically the last 2 minutes of the last quarter even though I have playcalling on auto and run plays on 95? Is that normal?

Is there a timing or a proper way to do contested layups? Because I seem to miss all of them and the CPU make almost all of them. I'm doing them with Mike Conley

All my players get beat back door. Not by back screen, or by helping defend the ball. They just fall asleep, even on pro difficulty. Particularly my center, which is Joakim Noah. That and the controller delay is killing me on D. I can't cover all the cpu's mistakes when's it's not immediately responsive. I can gap players, play conservative D, and protect the paint and it still happens. I can't even worry about guarding the ball at this point. Please somebody tell me they are also experiencing this and have some sort of fix not involving sliders. I'm incredibly frustrated.

Do mid air adjustments if you get met. It works.

Pause the game. Go to the Box Score. Go to the screen for your opponent's players. At each line, you can click to see the player's player card, and can scroll through to the ratings, attributes, shot chart, etc. It's in the video below.

I have a feature request in for next year to make opponent info directly accessible from the defensive settings screens. I put it in the video. If you want to tell the devs you like my idea, go ahead and like the video.

No matter the camera, one of the best ways to improve on ball defense is by playing on the Blacktop.

                                Other general tips:

                                • don't crowd the ball handler too much.
                                • use the left stick and the left trigger, but not the right trigger UNLESS you need to feather turbo a little to catch up laterally. A lot of hummingbird loose defense buzzing around the spot you want to be in is caused by using too much right trigger.
                                • Use left trigger lightly, not too heavily. Get a feel for how to "feather" the left trigger to help you move and control the space on the floor you want to control.
                                • don't jump to contest using Y/triangle unless you have to to close out late getting beat for a shot. Better in general to try to close out with hands up on the right stick.
