Re: NBA 2K16 Teach Me How/Strategy Thread
You're supposed to miss some, it's realistic. Nobody makes *every* wide open jumper, not Larry Bird, not Steph Curry, not Lebraon James, and certainly not me.
Are you missing them all? What is your overall season % ?
If it's above 50% there's a problem (unless of course, you're a center and you're dunking all the time).
If you're a good shooter, you should be in the 40%-50% range. I wouldn't expect anything higher than that if I were you.
Can someone PM me and tell me what is going on with shooting? I dished out $40 for my career to boost my stats. I maxed out Shooting and yet I'm missing wide open jump shots. There is no defender in front of me. It's a perfect setup shot. I'm releasing at the top of my shot. It can't get any more perfect than that. I have the dialog option open so it tells me if my shot was good or bad. They are all near perfect yet I miss my shots. Does the game think I'm being contested?Comment

Is there a way to add MyPlayer to a custom roster and start a MyLeague? The only thing I can find is to create a player but then you don't have the option to scan your faceComment

Can anyone share the controls for that exagerated shimmy from the post where the player almost turns 180 degrees? It was in last year but I can't find it this year. The closest I could find in a video is this @ :34.

^^ My go to move with Melo in the low post. While holding down LT for the post up, also hold RT and press the shotstick away from the hoop. I believe the shot can only be done with a live dribble, not positive though."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

I remembered it being RS away. I was forgetting to hold RT.
One of my go to moves with Melo too. I run the Knicks in MyGM every year.Shout out to The Watcher! Where you at bruh?Comment

Re: NBA 2K16 Teach Me How/Strategy Thread
I haven't been giving any tips so far this year, because I wanted time in the game to get to know it better myself, and to skill up. This year's game has forced me to relearn a few things and right now I'm just playing on AS sim in MyLeague.
But here are some things I've found to be really helpful to me in transitioning from last year's game. Others have said some of this stuff, but anyway:
- Change your offensive freestyle a few times in a game: This is especially important if you play 12 minute quarters as I do. What gives you success early will not keep working. Last year I could let the CPU take a time out, see what it does, and then adjust if I was losing ground and momentum. This year I recommend not waiting that long. When the CPU calls a time out when you've been successful, change up your own offense during that time out. Put the CPU a step behind. This is especially important if there's a play maker like Anthony Davis up against you. Before you know it, after that time out, you'll be on the bad end of a 9-0 run if you don't get out in front of the game by changing your base offensive freelance set. In general, just change it up a few times per game, to anything else you like. It's really important in this year's game.
- Smart offense protects your defense: A lot of this getting abused in the paint and bad AI teammate rotations seems to come when the CPU is on a run. Momentum runs are not as crazy this year with physics defying animations, and they are not as prominent as a game play balancing mechanic because AI has taken over that role (that's great!). But momentum still happens. If you don't do what I said above, and your offense gets stale for a few possessions because the CPU has adjusted, you will also have more trouble on D. It's not just in transition, though of course there is that as many have discussed. But those problems are worse when you are not making baskets because your offense has bogged down.
- Zone helps but it's better to prevent than react: As others have said, mixing in a few - maybe 2-4 minutes - of zone can help when the CPU begins to get to the basket and draw fouls down low seemingly at will. And no matter what, it's a good idea to mix in a little bit of zone anyway even if you've been in a good groove a while just to throw off the CPU AI from adjusting to what you're doing. But if you're using zone to try to patch over the CPU run on your paint already in full effect, you're a little late to the party. This all fits in with what I said above.
- Player Cut Y/Triangle is your friend: Even if you're not necessarily tearing it up from the perimeter, but you are having success, the CPU defense will probably take a shot at denying all your guys and playing very physical for steals, bumping and disrupting you ball handlers, etc. It makes it very hard to run any play or get freelance motion going, because you can't make passes easily and getting the ball to the post is an ugly dice roll for a steal. That's a good time to call a quick iso or go to 4-1 out and get the ball to the wing. From there, try to get your corner teammate or your top of the key teammate to cut past his defender to the hoop for a layup or dunk using triangle/Y. That mechanic can be a little dicey at times when it lights up a player you don't intend, and when it breaks plays the spacing around the cutter does not always adjust well. But in this on court configuration, it's a lot easier to use the left stick accurately to get the player you want to make the cut, and it's very effective.
- Feather L1/LT on offense and defense: I've never been a great stick skills guy, but I have noticed that regularly just lightly feathering the left trigger while handling the ball opens up a lot more space and launching options to get past a defender to either pass, drive or shoot. Finding good launch points is tricky this year and I was never great at it to begin with, but this has really helped open up animations where I can shake free of a defender or at least get a step and put a guy on my hip. You don't need to fully suppress the trigger as in a post up, just a little feathering will let your ball handler turn the shoulder and it almost operates sometimes lik a half spin to good effect. I've even seen it make some crossovers work when they won't if you're just facing up. Try it. Also, on defense (hat tip to Sam Pham) playing on ball is best giving a little bit of space to the ball handler while using only the left stick and just feathering L1/LT. Use R1/RT ONLY to catch up side to side to stay in front of your guy. I was playing really bad on ball D until I got this right, because I was crowding ball handlers too much, trying to compensate with R1/RT and getting blown past, breaking my defense down. This will also help a lot with those PIP people struggle with in this year's game on defense. Sam has gone full on to the the dark side with the BEST EVER HYPE and self promotion in his vids this year, but there's still good content on that and defensive settings here.
That's enough for now. More as I keep learning.Last edited by LorenzoDC; 10-09-2015, 03:16 PM.Comment

Re: NBA 2K16 Teach Me How/Strategy Thread
The pre-rotate setting. Does anybody know what it actually means? Say I set it to yes on lebron, does it mean that my defense will make him priority and pre rotate to him when he has the ball and/or a driving opportunity to take away the lane? Or does it mean that whoever is guarding him will pre rotate OFF of him in help or P&R situations. I think someone on here said it was the latter but after testing it and watching replays I'm not so sure. Im not saying they are wrong but i initially thought it was the former. Has anyone definitively tried it out?

According to this comment:
So pre-rotate should be called, "Pre-Rotate OFF OF."
So if I have Klay Thompson's defensive profile open in my coach settings, I would NOT pre-rotate off of him because he will make me pay. You would pre-rotate off of someone you wouldn't mind leaving open to go helpComment

Re: NBA 2K16 Teach Me How/Strategy Thread
Okay guys, defence. It has always let me down in 2K. When I stink it up for periods on offence, my defence is never there to help me out. I play Superstar Sim, so maybe there's just a lot of CPU bull, but maybe not.
After some good tips. On the court, guards always seem to shake me really easily, and numerous times, good defensive trips end with someone being wide open for an easy jumper.
As for the menus, I do watch a fair bit of basketball but I still need some help with what all the options for an individual matchup mean.

Re: NBA 2K16 Teach Me How/Strategy Thread
I suggest everyone watches this and practice the drills Czar gave us.
Da_Czar's #NBA2k16 Tutorial Mastering Fundamental Controls - YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8-ByMhZ-KI
It really takes the organic feeling out of the game. I believe this is some sort of code built into the game, that keeps the CPU on a more level playing field. (This is the same issue where people talk about defenders sliding, morphing and feeling sticky)
By no means do I expect to get to the rim everytime, but there should be a feeling of consistency when performing moves and trying to explode to the basket.
This is my primary disappointment with NBA 2K16. I really hope they can patch the morphing and suction into CPU defenders, and put a greater emphasis on defensive rotations and help defense.
EDIT- I know this can be done, because you do not get this same stuck in mud feeling when playing against a USER. Also, when the CPU drives on you, they can explode out of their moves with consistency.Last edited by ch46647; 10-09-2015, 02:52 PM.Comment

I will say I've seen the term "feathering" used more in the last three weeks than I have throughout the rest of my life."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier
