Some things I would suggest is not smothering the guy you are guarding...give him some space

the bigs overreact to the slightest notion that your guy beat you and get out of position sometimes..

choosing off ball "play tight" on the big may help.....

I use it for most of my CPU match ups and the CPU intercepts a lot of passes inside

I play with the broadcast cam & icons off, so I feel you pain. Aiming is tough, and I have to remember who's playing where to use icon passing.

I'm getting better though. From what I can tell, the passing controls are very responsive & accurate. When I pass to the wrong player it's because my aim was off. When I get it right, it feels great. I'm getting better each game.

Obviously, if there are other players directly in between who you want to pass to, icon passing is really the only option.

Maybe play a scrimmage and practice skip passing to get used to aiming. Depending on what cam you use, aiming passes can be tricky.

Also, check the passing options menu. There may be a setting that helps. I think I remember seeing 'direction', 'best pass', 'most open', and maybe another. Sounds like you lose some control but you might find something you like.

That is my primary defensive gameplan. I like that the CPU offense is organic and will catch the D napping, it just seems to happen far too often. I need to put my squad through some ball-you-man & shell drills in practice apparently.

In all seriousness, I have noticed that this primarily happens when the CPU swings the ball or there's a flex cut. My defenders are very lazy/slow/brain dead when it comes to this defensive rotation. It's not like when the CPU D starts denying passes across the board and you have plenty of backdoor cuts available (bless the Y/cut passing addition). I'm not being overly aggressive off the ball, my D just falls asleep when the ball is reversed and doesn't beat their man to the spot.

Escape is diagonal away from the hoop (toward ball hand?) if i recall correctly. I keep getting it on accident instead of hesitation sometimes lol

I find occasionally switching to a Zone helps. Gotta mix it up, both on offense and defense. Even when something works, if you keep doing it, the AI will adjust.

And sometimes, in the Zone D, I'll dig down with a guard and help out down low.

I've tried adjusting everything there is to try to project the paint - go under screens, the lowest ball pressure setting, POE of "protect the paint" and it doesn't matter. I've also tested the opposite (hedge/ICE/ball pressure) to try to make entry passes more difficult. The CPU gets 14-20 points each game from passes to a guy standing directly under the rim for an easy lay in. Seems like my CPU teammates do not bump cutters the way the CPU does and they often fall asleep and allow an easy cut to the rim. Porzingis and Lopez do block quite a few shots though.

MIN - 68 PIP, they only had four 3PA
LAC - Blake had 25/19 (LAC took 34 threes)
            HOU - Dwight had 26/18

LAC and HOU were blowouts, not that that's unrealistic given the sorry state of the Knicks. But not sure what else I can adjust, might simply have to buckle down and prepare for a rough first season.

I've tried that too, but I find also that the low post weak side player can become a spectator when a weak side cut enters his zone in the paint and the ball is on or near the strong side block or corner.

So you end up with three defenders crowding the strong side block and a weak side block defender who just kind of ponders the meaning of life while the cutter takes a pass under the hoop. This is on 2-3 zone.

I was having this problem too but i think the AI is very opportunistic. I know you said you've tried all the adjustments, but with adjustments I think less is more. POE doesnt really do anything so what I've been doing is making global def settings to on ball off ball d. Changing both to moderate and then going in individually and maybe switching terrible shooters to gap. This will keep everything in front for the most part. As far as screens, I usually switch to the screener's man before he sets the pick and let the cpu either go over or under depending on the settings. That way you can guard the ball handler (if his man gets picked) or the roll man (your man)if he doesn't and by doing that you'll also stop the cpu from doing unnecessary rotations. Also playing moderate on everybody will increase the help defense if somebody does get beat and clog the passing lanes a little better. I see alot of people complaining about help d when the problem might be that with auto settings everyone is attached to their man.... Since the AI is opportunistic once it realizes the paint is clogged and everyone is playing off, more sim numbers will happen like more threes and less pip even though it will still try to force it's way into the paint occasionally . And the 3s and long 2s are still contestable at moderate settings. Just played the grizzlies pelicans and wizards on ss sim (6 min) and none of them made it out of the teens in pip, Took a decent amount of 3s and all shot around 41 43% (grizz 39%) from the field.....but you are playing with knocks tho....

One I've finished editing my roster I'll be taking the '96 Bulls into a season in my league - Will it be possible to give them alternate jerseys along with their generic home and away ones in that mode?

As I don't much tamper with most of 2k's modes I don't know too much about jersey/court creation this year - is this something I can do, or is it reserved for the fantasy modes only like Mycarer etc?

This definitely does work and I switch to a zone here and there but still has issues. Last night I was in a 2-3 vs Orlando because Vucevic was killing me. He was posting up on the right block awaiting the entry pass from the wing. Robin Lopez was bodying him up from behind while Porzingis was fronting, plus I was sagging off the ball handler with Jerian Grant on the wing. So I'm damn near triple teaming Vucevic before he has the ball. The entry pass still gets in to him clean as a whistle and he hits a quick jump hook turning baseline, morphing through Porzingis. Plus I had hard doubled (tripled I guess) with Grant on the catch. Vucevic finished with 34 on 13/17 from the field.

I will say that I wouldn't have beaten Orlando if I didn't play a 2-3 zone about half the fourth quarter. Vucevic had 14 in the quarter and that was with Orlando struggling to adjust to the zone for 3-4 minutes and launching a bunch of bricks from the perimeter. Once they adjusted they started feeding him again and he went back to having his way with me inside. If I stayed m2m the whole quarter then Vucevic probably would have had 25 points in the quarter and I would have lost, so that's cool at last. Also a little concerning, teams like the Knicks hardly play zone. I'd prefer to rectify my m2m issues rather than needing to rely on zone so often.

This is a slight different issue than we were discussing, just went on a mini tangent about zones.

RS back/away towards ball hand without RT? I'll try it. I hope you're not talking about RT + RS away. That's the step back.

I'm talking about the escape versions of all the crossovers & hesitations from last year that were RT + RS in whatever direction. The step back is still there. But the rest (escape crossover, escape hesitation, etc.) seem to have been replaced by all the new size ups.

So - what exactly does the Point Of Emphasis selections do?

Do you get any kind of bonus or upgrade if you follow the instructions?

For instance, when it says, Patient Offense, do I get an upgrade if I don't shoot early in the shot clock?

Can someone PM me and tell me what is going on with shooting? I dished out $40 for my career to boost my stats. I maxed out Shooting and yet I'm missing wide open jump shots. There is no defender in front of me. It's a perfect setup shot. I'm releasing at the top of my shot. It can't get any more perfect than that. I have the dialog option open so it tells me if my shot was good or bad. They are all near perfect yet I miss my shots. Does the game think I'm being contested?

Does anyone have any advice for making the CPU opponent double team your own team's players more often? I've had situations where Dwight Howard is posting up a PG, and they don't double. Also Harden on fire at times, they're not doubling, or he gets mismatched on a big and can blow by or step back easily on him, no double ever sent.

Between CPU defensive awareness, help defense, and defense consistency- would turning up all of these address this issue? Or just help defense? I don't even know what defensive consistency does or means really. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Generally teams substitute about 9 minutes into the 1st quarter during the regular season, and as needed during playoff games depending on starters stamina.

Playoff caliber teams often use an 8-man rotation. The three non-starters are versatile enough to sub across all five starting positions: Combo players like PG/SG; SG/SF; PF/C. The 9th and 10th players are role-players whose minutes fluctuate based on whether their skills help or hinder against the current opponent.

Non-playoff teams may use a 9 or 10-man rotation as they develop young starters or are waiting for free agency to acquire mature starters that can log heavy minutes and allow for an 8-man rotation.

Under-priced veterans with four or more years experience who specialize in one or two skills make good bench players. Usually the sixth-man could start for another weaker team in the league.
