Re: Mike Wang tweets about 2K20

If I like to shoot with the shot meter off (because in a real basketball game I don't see any meter) why I have to be in a special high risk / high reward condition? i don't get the point...

I could agree with users without the meter having an extra benefit (as they are not using the artificial help of the meter), longer green window or whatever, but more penalisation if they didn't hit the sweet spot? Came on now!!! Why?

On the other hand, where is the incentive for those who use the pro stick to shoot instead of just hitting a f**** button (square/X)?

I think shooting with pro stick and without the meter should have an incentive and no penalty... LOL
    Ignorance is Bliss...

Make Park tuned for street ball, allowing flashy plays on offense and defense. They could implement something along the lines of a Summer Pick Up League or And 1 Tour for people that want to play 5v5 with a crew in that style.

Make Rec like an actual Rec League,a more organized and fundamental approach(i.e.more sim) than Park but not as high level as Pro-Am.Again, implement a literal Rec League for people who want play with a crew in this style.

Pro-Am should be for players wanting to simulate real organized ball on at least a semi professional level. The current Pro Am League would transition to being for this play style.

2K could still promote events and tournaments for all 3 "Leagues", thus exposing the product to fans of all different styles with an experience they might enjoy.
This is a really cool idea, the problem is though that no one is ever honest with themselves about their basketball limitations. I've never met a park player who didnt consider themselves a "real hooper". They all believe they have the basketball IQ to play with you in the league you want Pro Am to be.
This isnt even just limited to MyPlayer modes, we sometimes have guys that come into our sim MLO, and sprint around in a circle spamming behind the back moves.
So even if it's given different names and spun in a way that doesnt sound demeaning to arcadey style players, it would still be viewed that way. The kids play park, and the good players play pro am.

I wish it would work, as I really do like your idea. I've played a combined 2 games of park/proam/rec in the entirety of the MyPlayer existence, but I would be all over that if it was designed and worked as you've suggested.

Being as it would have to be fairly strict in its enforcement of realism level, I could definitely see a problem with cheesers not being able to handle the reality of suddenly not being able to compete anymore once their cheese has been taken away. Unfortunately, it would probably lead to complaints online as most would likely just want to blame "the system" instead of looking to grow as a player.

I still think it's productive to come up with some ideas though; there has to be some things out there that are at least worth a shot compared to the current system.

I don’t see it as being a problem.
If someone is primarily a park player and they went into ProAm and tried to play like they play on park, they should get dominated. Loosing the ball when they over dribble, get hit with fouls for spamming steal or trying to pogo stick block, get hit with stricter penalties for leaving their man to chase the ball and over dribbling.
The idea is to give people the option to play whatever style they want or can be successful at and have them adjust to the different levels and styles of play.

That's pretty well it in a nutshell; give players a way to compete meaningfully with each other in whatever style they choose and be rewarded for it, as opposed to feeling like they have to play modes they don't enjoy(or with players who are not a good fit stylistically) just to make progress.

Maybe Im just too pessimistic, but my feeling is cheesers gonna cheese. Nothing is ever cheese proof. As Czar said they professionals out there lol.

Is it really that hard for you to comphrend?

When you have a shot meter, you can literally see what it takes to achieve a perfect release. It's almost a cheat sheet in a way as opposed to learning the release of the player. You don't ever have to look at the players form when you have a shot meter so why would you not incentivise a user who chooses to not use a cheat sheet for the game.

Now, what Mike Wang should do is turn off the shot meter if you play on superstar or higher difficulties. If the shot meter is truly for the casual players, it should only be allowed on casual settings. That's the simplest solution but we all know this is a money thing and Mike can only control so much.

Mike can say one thing but his boss may not allow it because it may damage potential revenue. It's all about balance at the end of the day. Developers want to give you a realistic experience but the investors want what can generate the most money. Considering 2k19 sold 12 million copies, expect more of the same with just a few compromises.

I don't want ANY more unnatural boosts to shooting percentages. We already have enough with these badges.

And I don't play park, I play the 5 on 5 online modes, so quite frankly I don't give a damn about people "lying about greens." I don't know why the Park community's arcade nonsense has to always leak over into the other modes.

I don’t want unnatural boost either, but if that boost to shooting from not using the shot meter does help to take it away, I’m all for it.
Later, if they can get rid of the shot meter, they can take away the boost.

The second proposal is a huge no. Those are a necessary evil for those who are sim oriented, especially if you're experimenting with new playbooks, freelances or series.

If they were smart, they would remove it next year and bring it back in 2K25 as a "new feature."

I respect what they are trying to do with the shot meter thing, or at least the direction they’re moving. This solution just backfires too greatly as you all have pointed out.

I think 2k-whatever had the right stick for accuracy- was closer to the solution than this because I think trying to create a skill gap out of shot timing is not gonna work. There are too many variables incontrollable by the user, and ceiling it provides is too low to replicate tough shots (at least justifiably so).

It sucks, but until someone can create a mechanic that also considers some mechanical movement, I think we’re stuck with the shot meter and greens.
Apparently you can't change your username.

I mean this in the most respectful way possible but that second idea is just dumb. Especially considering they have a setting where the plays not drawn on the floor. But if they remove the plays drawn on the floor, how will people know where to go for the plays and who to pass it to?
