The #1 best idea this year was 2K letting us quit without getting L's. At least that lets us save some of our time and sanity lol. Also being able to change our badge setup at any time is $$

I mean there were some decent ideas they implemented... the ability to modify badges at any time (like you mention), the ability to buy skill boosts anywhere (a smart financial move for them), tying specific badges to relevant attributes (like post control) rather than the broad categories (like finishing), the builder itself is an ok concept, but was just poorly implemented and allowed overpowered PF builds to run amuck. Heck even adding AIs to fill out teams in the Rec is not a bad idea in itself, but just was implemented poorly... first with the 60 overalls, and now with the total lack of defensive awareness the AIs possess.

I unfortunately have taken advantage of the no-penalty quitting in rec a lot this year, but as I mentioned in this thread earlier I feel it is only fair given that 2k's garbage matchmaking system will place me with 2 randoms and 2 clueless AIs against a squad of 5 that ignores the AIs on defense and just harasses ball, and then cheesily shoots overtop the AI the entire game on offense. I at least have some respect for the squads who play their own game, and don't exploit the AI but as soon as I see they are almost exclusively targeting the AI it is a quit for me.

I don't like it people were already dropping like flies 5 minutes into a rec match on the current gen version. Take away the penalties and i bet people quit about every match now.

It’s pretty bad but, as mentioned, it’s almost necessary with how often you end up squadded with AIs. You could just dashboard before the game starts but I feel like I’d be playing one game an hour if I did that every time. Sometimes I’ll stay in with 2 AIs just to see if the other team has the same. Playing basically 3 on 3 isn’t great but it’s better than sitting in the lobby all day.

The quitting can be frustrating when you actually get a 5 v 5 game and the other team just quits because they suck. I’ll stick it out in a 5 v 5 game even with crappy teammates.

Ended up making a new Center and I think it's gonna get a great build. Not as many badges as other builds, but I have everything a center is supposed to have. Just trying to get up to at least 85 before going Pro Am, only at 70 right now.

Also messing around with a 6'6 SG Jordan build. This may very well be OP. 86 strength and HOF backdown punisher will very well bully every person I come across. I'd have 90 strength after getting the gym rat badge. Along with having a 95 Midrange, it's gonna be scary. How do you stop something like that if your build on has 25 strength and 25 interior defense? I'm gonna keep tweaking before I jump in, the only downside is I can only max Post Control to 77, though I'd still get gold badges.

There’s gotta be something wrong with the switch version. Every time I go into the rec now I get waiting for teammates and there’s no one in there with me.

Really sucks I can’t get a single multiplayer game

Yeah I agree with you here, I play 2k to have fun, so when I play Rec this year if I get a matchup that is definitely not going to be fun for me I am going to quit. Heck I have even quit games that likely would have been wins because I know it would not be a particularly fun way for me to spend ~30 minutes. I know some people care about the rep grind, but as someone who maybe puts 1-2 hours a day into 2k I am never really going to try for high rep (and the rewards really aren't worth it).

Cant believe yall let this thread die. Has everyone for real given up on REC this year for real?

This is what this post is about. Iv had next gen for around 2 months now and iv spent every waking moment in the rec. I probably have just the 3 games it took me to get out the bum city, all my other online games have been REC.

The rec is unplayable with randoms. The taking out of bump steals had to happen, but it has made the game unplayable with randoms. I have a shooter build and whole games will pass where I dont touch the ball. The game has made it so easy to dribble that PGs can literally dribble on 3 people and green 3s without ever having to pass. I cannot get my shooting badges simply because I literally may get 2 shots a game. Defenders will literally leave me wide open and my PG will be busy SUCCESSFULLY dribbling on 3 defenders and scoring, its ridiculous. This game has no skill gap and is BY FAR the worse rec experience of the series. Dudes literally learn 2-4 dribbles and are basically gods.

I cannot believe how hard it is to balance 2k. At this point im finally done blaming 2k. This is on Youtube and the players that sit on Youtube learning all these cheese moves. If players are just going to break ANY game 2k puts out and cheese then where do we get off saying its 2k's fault the game sucks? Truth be told this game doesnt suck. Im in my second season in my Offline league and the game is FUN. Its us. We break WHATEVER 2k gives us then complain about it like dusty losers. 2k could give us gameplay gold and we would never know. Because in week 1 there will be 10000 videos on Youtube telling people which builds break the game and which dribble moves work best, and by week 2 the game will be ruined to the point where people cry for patches. Patches that wont mean anything because all thats gonna happen is a patch is gonna come, and then the Youtube community will break the game again. Then when the game is rebroken ppl will start crying about the patch and beg for the patch to be undone.

Idk, this year the rec has just been not fun. Literally 95% of the games is one god like dribbler getting 25 shots up and the whole rest of the team watching another guy have fun even though we paid the same money.

I had more fun in last gen. The rec did not seem like it was 4 guys watching one guy and that one guy basically not being punished for not passing because they made dribbling so easy

I didn't intentionally let the thread die. You all scared me off REC, lol. I really wanted to be a big; however, I knew the center was going to get killed by the OP PF builds, and I REALLY don't like the whole "If you can't beat them, join them" concept, so I refuse to create a PF build myself. I really don't have the selfish, scoring mentality to be an efficient perimeter player, but I really didn't want to be stuck as a defense-only build either. Then I was watching YouTube videos about the fade away shots and the "Curry slide", and I was like...I'm good for this year. I've been playing NBA 2K20 to get my REC fix on.

Now, we all know that 24th Letter is going to show us it's possible, but I'm starting to think that he's a 2K Pro Player masquerading as one of us common Joes, lol.

Re: Matchmaking in Rec is awful.

Well the thread title is especially true on Next Gen. Whatever they're doing with they're matchmaking is broken. I know the majority of folks don't have the console, but I played 5 games in a row with 2 of my boys and two AI's, many times vs. full teams. (Still went 4-1, lol) There's no way there weren't players available for 5 games straight. Rarely can I just hop in a lobby and play without multiple tries. That's ridiculous.

The grind wasn't nearly as fun as current gen, and I'd still say overall I enjoyed current gen Rec better, but there's still a place for us tanks in next gen, I don't care what the YTers say....especially now that my Glass Lock is at 99 I'm versatile enough to dump on these 6'7 centers and stay on them on the other end. That said, layups are still a crap shoot and I get dunked on way too much for having 30 defensive badges but I hold my own.

The fading is def out of control, glad it's getting patched. My boy can fade and the stuff I've seen in game is just ridiculous.

2k had been trending this way for a while with how trash AI's are, but this is the first game that if you are against a full 5 you might as well quit.

I still remember the times I beat my friends full fives w bums back when. It's worth the memories. I've changed my mindset a lot tho. I'm gonna push w my c cuz I built him w 65 ball handle.

If people time me out ill keep getting rebs. If people can't make plays I will.

I eventually going to get into this mode (once the real nba season winds down).

I’m not going 5-9 point this year, I’m doing a straight Vince Carter build (for something different).

I already have 200,000 VC off of my PNO games and still have lots of games in that mode left. I can basically just “buy” my player to an 88 overall (or whatever that magic number is this season).

When I’m in my player should I “skip the story” ?

I asked in the myplayer thread but never got a answer.

I’m on next gen by the way.

                              Matchmaking Next-Gen is absolutely horrendous.

95% of the time if you search for a game as a Center they will match you up with another Center. You need to search with a guard to consistently find 5 and even that is a rare occurrence.

Yet on the other end searching as a PG oftentimes ends up with a 6’7PF at the 5.

Whatever the position gates 2k has in place currently are broken, and have been since release. I’ve been playing since 2k8 and I’ve never experienced the game legitimately be this dead. It takes 35 minutes to even get into a LOBBY with 5. It’s silly.
