Re: Twitter and YouTube killed 2K basketball
When someone gets to like 70-80 points and it's obvious they are going to just keep jacking, it's time to sell out and start blitzing them and making them give up the ball just so it doesn't become a meme.
True the task is too easy but people really fail at defense. Not only that but then they get demoralized. Gotta start breaking some bones out there.

I’ve played against teams like this and blitzing doesn’t really accomplish anything. Either the big rolls to the hoop for an uncontested dunk or the guys standing in the corners splash. Your only hope is the guy guarding him is able to get through the screens and contest or that the Center is able to hedge and still recover on the roll. It’s boring as hell and it will never change until 2K nerfs pull up 3s.

Re: Twitter and YouTube killed 2K basketball
I appreciate competition too, but I absolutely HATE playing against the metas of each NBA 2K title. I get no satisfaction in beating a bum *** cheeser. If you got to "cheat" to win, then I can't even RESPECT you as a competitor. If you beat me, meh. If I beat you, meh. Maybe because I've been playing against online metas since NBA 2K4, I could be just a tired online warrior. In past NBA 2K titles, I could easily beat my opponents by playing "sim" basketball. Nowadays? Man...I'm lucky if I can beat you with fundamental basketball knowledge. I'm just to the point that I'm getting tired of losing to or playing against badges and unrealistic stats. That's not "fun" or "competitive" to me.Comment

Re: Twitter and YouTube killed 2K basketball
All the youtubers are reject virgins who have the most unoriginal and useless material. Most of the time it's just them copying off each others videos all the way down to the exact same background sounds. They of course get their minions (aka pimply faced 13 yr olds) to harass people for them.
I've played 2K since the original on Dreamcast. As soon as Take Two bought Visual Concepts, it was over. The game has gone downhill since. It's not a sim. At all. Not even remotely close. The game is literally, who can find out a glitchy move and who can master it the best. That's it. There's no actual basketball being played. The game is filled with Fornite and Magic the Gathering playing squids. Kids that never played a sport in their lives but they play 2K. They dont understand what real basketball is. They all cry and whine if they cant hit 3s their 7'3 glass lock with a 51 three rating. Literally they will bitch and moan non stop on twitter about it and for some reason the people at 2K cave. My guess is because the majority of their consumers are those exact kids. Gotta give them what they want or else they lose a ton of $$$$$ from kids who wont play anymore.
I hope to god with the new gen consoles coming out that 2K gets back to sim basketball!!!!!!!! 2K has said that the game is being built from the ground up... we will see if that's true. Of course they havent released a single thing about the game though besides some CGI corny video of Zion.Comment

Re: Twitter and YouTube killed 2K basketball
What are the biggest Sim-related channels on YT/Twitch? I'm guessing Pop Boy and Shady? Haven't seen many Sim leagues putting out compelling content.
IMO, we need to amplify one of those voices (or create one) because we have such a relatively small community of sim-heads. Discussion in this forum is key, but its just one piece of the puzzle. We have to add/show value for a significant size group, which may require following a leader, consensus or not.Comment

Regardless of how I might feel, I think one area the YT/Twitter demographic excels at is using various platforms to make themselves heard.....marketing,if you will. It's probably time we worked on making sure we're doing the same thing and really trying to grow the community.Comment

Re: Twitter and YouTube killed 2K basketball
This is one of the better ideas I've heard.

Now, afaik, the YT/Twitter demo helps market other people towards spending more VC by promoting MyCareer/Playground modes.
The Sim community doesn't really market towards spending additional money, but we can market toward growing the customer base by showcasing the realistic/sim possibilities of 2k. Most sim-heads I know just aren't interested in doing all this extra stuff (for a number of reasons). Unfortunately, what I feel this has led to is a decreasing Sim demographic as it's not accessible or intuitive to get into. Its up the community to make it accessible if we really want to have more of a footprint in the game.
I think we could start a number of changes immediately, just in the OS 2K forum alone, to make "getting into the sim community" more accessible.Comment

Re: Twitter and YouTube killed 2K basketball
Originally posted by NoLeafCloverThe thing is, for me personally and I know a lot of other people, it's not even just about the "pure" sim side of things like you guys who play customised and tweaked MyLeague's etc.
I play mostly the MyCareer and MyTeam modes with some Play Now Online, but just because they are more "casual" doesn't mean they shouldn't even come close to resembling actual basketball.
I HATE how 2K has allowed all the wHaCkY arcade crap from Park bleed over into every other game mode... fair enough if Fortnite kids want to shoot contested green fadeaways from half court with zero understanding of basketball then do a cringe dance emote, but KEEP THAT SH#T IN PARK ONLY and don't let it contaminate all other modes like Rec Center, MyTeam, PNO, etc. turning them into NBA Jam 2.0.
This would start with things like nerfing Brick Wall badge and putting proper moving screens back in, making some kind of "badge exclusion" where if you have say Catch and Shoot then you can't also have Difficult Shots etc, getting rid of badges that give you bonuses for doing the wrong thing like Deadeye, heavily increasing the Teammate Grade penalty for not passing ever (maybe even deduct VC for it), blah blah.
But they won't, because $$$$$$.
All that said, yea because $. I respect it, I work full time sometimes for $ too.
The thing I would most like to see is a Sim MyPlayer League. An alternative E-League aside from the official NBA2KLeague if necessary. If there were even ten teams, at least we could get 50+ to get one addition: Custom Community Slider Set for our group. Whatever we could do to get a large group of streamers together, probably would have the most "Lets get Sim noticed" effect, cause there's money in streaming (for the corporations at least).
For OS
I'd like to see a more robust sticky section for Joining a Team or Joining a MyLeague Online in the Online Sub-forum.
Something like:
A certain criteria for posting Teams or posting Leagues. More funneling to join existing ones.
Maybe changing the sub-forums in the Online section. If kept the same, possibly adding a couple relevant Pro-Am teams.Comment

Marketing is the key word. And honestly, that's what helps drives up Take-Two profits. Free marketing. I would do the same as them.

I agree. This year I''ve only been playing Rec/Pro-Am, because I can't get a good sim game with anyone online (and I'm not a fan of "house rules"). That's via here, Discord, PSN community, Reddit, NLSC.

As far as streaming, there's a few guys out there that do stream some ML here and there. The thing is alot of those guys have to worry about keeping their viewership up since it affects their revenue, so I think again the onus is kind of on us to generate interest (even if it means having to start a few dedicated channels from scratch and work to build the community up).Comment

Re: Twitter and YouTube killed 2K basketball
I agree with this...I think you can market it both as a single player sandbox full of possibilities and as a H2H alternative for players that just want to play some ball without dealing with grinding and whatever the current meta is.
A solid Community Slider Set would definitely be big;that really ease entry into things.

Re: Twitter and YouTube killed 2K basketball
I've just started looking at Twitch Teams/Groups, thinking that's one way to go. All that said, we will need to collaborate as users and work with mods. That's as far as our voice goes right now. As you said, its on us to build that voice.

Re: Twitter and YouTube killed 2K basketball
A Twitch group can definitely be a thing if a few channels get going to support each other. At this point though I think it's more just getting sim-centric channels up and going with enough traction that they won't be permanently buried at the bottom of the list when people search for 2K21 streams.
To my understanding, with a group, as long as somebody is streaming, the channel will be active and could serve as a central hub for all users within. Of course, someone would need to run this too, and that adds another piece to the puzzle. Currently doing the knowledge on Twitch, but would be happy to split admin duties with someone more experienced. Whatever to make it work correctly for the community.Comment

Re: Twitter and YouTube killed 2K basketball
I'm so ****ing pissed off at how this game allows people to manipulate settings and cheese any way they see fit. It ruins the game.
People put out these defensive settings that turn everyone into Gary Payton and Usian Bolt running around swiping and stealing every damn pass.
It's already bad enough that some of us have to deal with lag and others seemingly dont. Passing is already terrible and the steal spamming steal makes the lag worse.
