NBA 2K10 from a skeptics POV

Gotta say that after playing the combine for a while that it is clearly a better basketball game than NBA 2K9.

Spacing is better, the game is more fluid, better animations, no more headless chooks charging into the paint non stop... I've never felt more like I am actually playing basketball than with this game.

As a lot of the long time guys here know, I was pretty dissapointed with NBA 2K9. IMO it was a huge step backwards for the series. Ridiculous defensive logic, even worse offensive logic from the AI. It was the first time ever with a 2K basketball game that I could barely get through a game without getting up and turning the PS3 off. In so many ways it was inferior to 2K's College basketball game that had died a season earlier. The thought of all the College Hoops guys working on 2K9 had me really exctited for it, but it was a massive let down.

I wasn't sure what to expect with NBA 2K10. I made a post about 6 months back saying that this series was treading water and that it needed to really go back to the drawing board and get the fundamentals back into the series.

It's only very early days and we really haven't seen much (any) media about 2K10.

But if the Draft Combine is anything to go by...it's fair to say that this series is back on track and we are going to be in for a hell of a basketball game this year.

The LIVE 10 hype meter is just about going through the stratosphere on these forums and it's reasonably clear that game is also going to be very good. (The benefit of releasing a lot of vids, people can see the improvements).

Hopefully 2K will release some info soon that shows similar improvements in this series. Personally speaking, I am a sceptic who has been won back over by the Combine...but it's time 2K started to release some info and showed us exactly what's been improved for 2K10.

I agree to some extent. While the improvement is evident and obvious, they still have some glaring issues, issues that have been mentioned numerous times such as lack of control.

Honestly that's my biggest gripe with the game, but that's been beaten to death on these forums, so all I have left to do is play the game for myself.

I think the gameplay isn't going to be that much improved. I think they might limit the sliding but not remove it.

I know from reading that preview that the presentation is going to be great. And I think the graphics will be good for 2k standards, if you look at some close ups on replays in Draft Combine, the player models are well done in the facial area. Skin still looks like a McFarlane figure though!

Aces15. This is my flaw to this game too. Draft Combine (DC) has failed to hit a home run in this area of the game (let alone, even swing at the ball) and it does make it completely frustrating. If you can't move you player right, how can you even attempt play the game in the exact manor you want. Although Live has been shown through the years as being more on the arcade side of game play, they have mastered this art of player movement. DC is, by far, not the final piece of the game, but it could of shown us some type of improvement.

I'm pretty pumped for 2K10. I'm one of those apparently rare gents who had a heck of a time with 2K9 and really did not have a whole lot of complaints that took away the game's fun and replay value. There appears to be a number of subtle improvement I believe will only make my experience richer.

In other news, does the spelling of "sceptic" vary from region to region? I was sure it was universally "skeptic" but I've read it can indeed be either. Are you in the United States?

I was a skeptic as well. I really like the changes they made so far. From the combine I've seen alot of new animations that fit each player and situation. Like all 2k games, I have gotten used to the controls. The ball physics are better as well as the dunks, blocks, defense, and brand new tip-dunks.

They've only shown us a piece of the puzzle. We haven't seen any NBDL, My Player, or new presentation aspects. We've only read about it. When they show there hand they'll wow some people.

Can't say that the Combine has me sold on 2K10 at all, but the exercise in frustration that was a couple games of 2K8 and 2k9 reveals that it will no doubt be a better game than those.

I disagree about the amount hype behind nba live this year. I think that nba live fans maybe hyped up for their game, but after seeing the videos released by ea, Live 10 does even look as good as nba 2k9. It's also disturbing that almost every "new" gameplay feature live is showing off has been in nba 2k for a while now. Lastly, 2k really doesn't need a lot of hype because it's sales and track record speak for itself.

2k9 was a disappointment IMO. who can really love a game where you have NO control over your players especially on defense. No footplanting, broken isomotion, no help Defense , and once again Easy layups in paint . these fundemental things ruined the game. It caterted more towards the "highlight" reel fans who only enjoy dunks and 3 pointers while running fast break the entire game. As for a simulation 2k8 was a better representation of the NBA. i hope 2k10 can get back to basics

Live looks ALOT better than 2k9. Live gameplay features are used by 2k but VC just renamed them . Live had be a pro, now look what 2k has. Live had everything last get and all the things 2k has now cam from them. Look at dynamic DNA. it was excellent IMO. now look what new "feature" 2k has. Hmmmmm DNA vs 82games.com ! who copied who?

Graphics for 2k10 PC blows away anything Live or 2k console can do so I am satisfied there.

I am very skeptical too about 2k10 and its improvements. Almost none of my concerns about the game were fixed with the NBA combine.

The issues of transistion D, offensive play sets, rebounding magnetism and fast break transistion speed and logic are basically the same as 2k9 in the draft combine. If these areas are not addressed I will call 2k10 a huge disappointment.

All those Live featurettes were awesome....I for one, was very excited about the upcoming game. Then the actual final product game comes out, and it looks like more of the same imo and took away alot of my excitement...im hoping this isnt the case with 2k as well....
