Re: Official NBA 2K12 My Player Thread
A couple of days ago I finally got around to creating a My Player. I created a SF that's 6'10" (wanted a young KG type guy). I have a few questions, I tried looking through this massive thread but I couldn't find anything.
I was drafted by the Trailblazers, I can't stand that team. Is there a way I can get myself traded? And if so, would I be able to dictate where I go to? I want to get on the T Wolves.
I keep setting screens like people suggested but I still can't seem to get the team rating thing better than C+. I almost always get a D+ or C, C- despite all the screens I set. I also call for too many bad passes apparently and this brings the team thing down. Is there an easier way to raise this rating?
I don't mind coming off the bench but was wondering what dictates me making it into the starting lineup?
I assume I can only do so many drills/events every week? Some of them I continually fail at because I'm not quite sure on what I'm supposed to be doing. Is there one that is easiest and I should continue to do weekly? Right now I like the the one where you and one other player keep taking shots from different spots on the court. I get silver a lot in that one.
Was there no way to use the guy I first created (my avatar or whatever when I first fired up the game) as my My Player? Because it sucked having to recreate him all over again.
Can I change my position & type of player with my guy somewhere and start a new My Player mode? I was originally a SF, athletic but I want to change that.
I have more questions but I fear this is getting too long as is right now and I don't want to disinterest any potential help I could use.
Many thanks in advance.Comment

After 5 games with your team you can request a trade by going to "my career" then "my trades" and request a trade to 3 teams of your choice.

Only call for the ball if your open. setting screens is only one way to help your grade, you also need to do other things. score, assist, rebound, play good D, block, steal. just play an all-around game
I don't mind coming off the bench but was wondering what dictates me making it into the starting lineup?
you just gain minutes as your career progresses. the better you do, the faster you gain minutes. to check your minutes go to either "my player" or "my career" then "my minutes" and once you get more minutes than the starter, you become the starter

you can only de like 2 drills a week or something like that. shooting drill is pretty easy, but only if you have a decently high mid-range rating. also the dribble course is pretty easy if you follow what this video says, somebody on this forum(maybe even this thread) pointed out this vid, it shows exactly how to do the dribble course.
Was there no way to use the guy I first created (my avatar or whatever when I first fired up the game) as my My Player? Because it sucked having to recreate him all over again.
no

yes you can start a new my player, but you cant edit the position or playstyle of your current player

Re: Official NBA 2K12 My Player Thread
Ok, immediate thoughts in my head right now while I have you here...
Forgive me first because it's been a while since I played this game (I played 2K10 a lot but skipped last years).
I know I'm not a PG so I can't run plays. But even as a SF, is there an option to turn on the ability to run plays? Because most of the time on offense, other than setting screens/picks I'm just running about the court like a fool lol.
I distinctly remember using the D pad to set defenses & offenses in past versions of this game. I cant seem to do that any longer, the D pad only brings up camera options for me. Am I doing something wrong here?
If I am, I love just running the pick & roll often, but as it is right now all I can seem to do is set a screen/pick and pray the PG notices me peeling off the screen and heading towards the rim for a pass but often it never comes my way.
What are the most important attributes/skills/abilities for me to upgrade whenever I have more skill points? Right now I'm focusing on defensive ones as well as consistency/clutch (both def & off).
Do I save up my in game cash for something big or much needed? Because currently I just use the 50k skills purchase every time I get some more cash. Is this a bad strategy?
I don't have the ability to back a player down in the post it seems. Am I doing something wrong? I thought it was the Y button, but that does nothing and I've tried a few others to no avail.
When some of the objectives are something like hit two 3 pointers, do I just ignore them or try for them? Because I have no 3 ball ability whatsoever.
Any other general advice you have for me would be much appreciated because right now I'm pretty brutal. I think I'm averaging (checking the My Player page...) It looks pretty brutal like I said, but I'm trying my damnedest lol.Attached FilesComment

. I can literally download roster files that will change every singles players driving tendencies, etc. so that they play like they do in real life. Its amazing.

Re: Official NBA 2K12 My Player Thread
@boltman
well first off i dont have too much experience playing position other than PG. i mostly play my PG my player, i did make a PF but wasnt feeling it and havent really played it.
so as far as the playcalling, i dont think you can call plays unless you are the PG. you can however go to options and turn auto playcalling on and the PG on your team will run plays for your team during the game.
all the D-pad does is camera. or if your a PG you can call quick plays by pressing right on the D-pad, but i believe this only applies to PG's.
for attributes i would recommend focusing on offense first. yes D is important, very important, but your defensive ratings dont matter as much as offensive ratings. by that i mean, you can still defend a shot and get your hands up, steal, and block, without high defensive ratings, its not quite as easy or effective, but it works fine. but on offense though you cannot hit a 3 or mid range unless those are upgraded to 75+.
mid range and layup are most important as far as shots go. ideally you are going to want 85+ on both of those. those are the 2 things i would work on first. then once those are up start working on shot in traffic so you can make shots even if your not wide open, passings so obviously you can pass more accurately and faster, and ball security so you dont get striped. once those are all 75+ then you can really just work on whatever you want, whether that is consistancy, Defensive attributes, 3 pointers, verticle, rebound, etc.
consistancy isnt a bad attribute to upgrade earlier, it does help. but as far clutch that is important, but not so much right away. that is one of the last attributes you wanna work on. work on it closer to the playoff time when you need to be clutch, not so much right now.
as far as money goes, i really havent figured out what is best to spend it on. im just saving mine for dunk packages and layup packages, but i really dont know what is best to spend it on.
as far as objectives, i personally dont pay attention to them. i find i play better when im not specifically trying to take 10 jumpers, or hit two 3's. i just play and if i get those objectives then cool free skill points, if not i dont worry too much. the only objectives i really try for is the teamate grade one because i always try for the best grade possible. and do not take a 3 unless your 3 pt shot rating is atleast like a 70. any less and you probably wont make it.Last edited by Champion8877; 01-02-2012, 02:40 PM.Comment

Re: Official NBA 2K12 My Player Thread
I started MY a week or so ago, i am a 6'0 160 lb pass first pg.
my rookie season was with the suns, behind nash. averaged about 10ppg,2reb,5 apg but shot ~30% from the field lol. we missed the playoffs by a lot and I only played key games.
during my second season, i requested a trade to the knicks, and i got traded!
my team now starts with me/webster/melo/amare/chandler. nash is the back up pg/sg cuz the knicks traded douglas + fields for me + nash.
im currently playing every game of the season with 12 minute quarters, currently averaging 27points/4reb/13ast/2stl/43%fg/30% 3's. but 5 TO per game hahahha
however, i recently(right after i installed the game into the HD) ran into a small problem...my player doesn't show up among the league leaders anymore. I don't show up in all star votes either. it's as if i dont exist. has anyone had this problem before?
my goal is to get MVP and hopefully win the finals this yr, we're currently 1 game behind bulls for 1st place. my mid range/layup/3/pass/handling/def/stl/consis ratings are all 85+, should i be adding into abilities yet? which one of them is the most useful one? I do step back jumpers the most, but i actually make a lot of those without adding a single point into the ability. I don't fade much at all, but i guess it's cool when i randomly do one..Last edited by n8xhunt; 01-02-2012, 02:26 PM.Comment

Re: Official NBA 2K12 My Player Thread
Just Won Rookie of Month for the 2nd straight month with my PF. I made the Rookie/Soph game as a starter. #2 in ROY votes behind Kemba. I am avging 17 ppg and 6.5 rbs. Nash just announced that he is retiring after season after he already signed a extenstion. I REALLY HOPE that we pick up a PG in that draft. I got Shot MEd to 87(stop at 90) and On-Ball D to 65(stop at 80/max). I havent had problems holding on to the ball last couple games, so I wont improve Ball Security yet. I will boost Def Low Post and Block after I max On-Ball D. Then Quickness and Strength. I havent gotten as much points or possessions since I turned on "Run Plays". But we are playing better. I am closing in on 1000 career points and should get 500 rbs this year. I am 1st in PPG and FG% for Rookies.
My PG is 2nd in 6th man of year, So I dont want to become starter.Last edited by illwill10; 01-03-2012, 01:45 AM.Comment
