All of the games are scripted to a certain degree. However on Pro/Sim its not as obvious to the "naked eye".
The balance of shooting percentage to points scored is "stable" and your team losses when YOU turn the ball over and shoot poorly (bad shot selection).
The basis of the team shooting works well using individual team member shooting percentages and throwing a "consistency" curve every now and then to produce player slumps.

PRO/SIM
If a team is "competitive" (Knicks) your team will play well 75% of the time; the opponent AI;
1. will make short offensive runs to test your composure in the 3rd Quarter
2. will ALSO test your composure by artificially placing your player into a shooting slump (Consistency)
3. after a period of challenge the "lesser" team will fade or cave in just like normal games played everynight in the NBA.
4. On occasion you will lose, but, it's clear to you that it was your fault (bad shooting or turnovers) is why your team lost.
If your team is "weak" (Bucks/Sixers/Rockets) they will play well 50% of the time; the opponent AI;
1. will give your team an opportunity to stay close and make a run in the 3rd Quarter to get back into the game or win. This is pretty fun even when you lose, it gives you a sense that your team is turning the corner.
2. your team will be beaten solidly by the "elite" teams (Heat, Bulls, Mavs) but you do play VERY WELL if you make good decisions and take good shots - "a bright spot in an otherwise poor team performance"
3. Every now and then everything will fall together and you will "pull off" the big upset!!!
SUPERSTAR/SIM
Now when you just decide to "un-naturally" change those numbers "across the board" this is where problems arise.
I am telling you from first hand experience when the AI/CPU doesn't want you to score YOU WON'T!
Kris Humpries was right under the basket when I gave him the ball with at least ten seconds on the shot clock and he "airballs" it from 2 feet!!! He actually shot the ball under and threw the net!

There is no secret amongest forum members that play on the higher difficulties that you must gain team possessions in order to keep your team in the game. Either by steals or blocked shots.
Just because your opponent shoots badly BC they are a POOR TEAM doesn't mean that they are not going to score. They will get offensive rebounds and your team will do stupid stuff to turn the ball over to them to give them ANOTHER ATTEMPT to score.
Meanwhile the player shooting slumps on your team are longer and more precise (3 Q). It's no longer they have gone "1-5 to start the games", its now 1-7 or you don't score the first 6 minutes after halftime.
The defense is challenging for the MyPlayer to score but, the AI playing the passing lanes only is just crazy "over-the-top"! Every other time down the floor there is a tipped pass eating into your possession.
On Superstar all of the scripted crap is SO OBVIOUS, you don't even notice all the cheese going on!

I have a MyPlayer at both ends of the spectrum; PG/Knicks and CEN/Kings; and have found no difficulty as a long term solution.
For example, My Center (OVR:82) is leading the hapless Kings (OVR: 74) to the 2nd best record in the Western Conference on Pro/Sim...meanwhile my "SUPERSTAR" (OVR: 93) is fighting every night to lead a bunch of other "Stars" to victory.
I am at a crossroads, I think my Center and PG files somehow got corrupted in the latest PS3 update/patch which has caused the Local Fan Support Boo Glitch (no fault of mine) and may have to just delete these MyPlayer files.
That being said, the next player will be from start to finish on the All-Star difficulty level to see if I can meet the insanity somewhere in the middle.
This is not a Rant this is a confirmation of well documented efforts of others warning us of the dangers of playing on the higher difficulties in NBA2k12!
