    All of the games are scripted to a certain degree. However on Pro/Sim its not as obvious to the "naked eye".

    The balance of shooting percentage to points scored is "stable" and your team losses when YOU turn the ball over and shoot poorly (bad shot selection).

    The basis of the team shooting works well using individual team member shooting percentages and throwing a "consistency" curve every now and then to produce player slumps.

    <img src="http://media.nba2k.2ksports.com/screenshot/333aa69a.jpg" height="475px" width="710px" border="0" />

    PRO/SIM

    If a team is "competitive" (Knicks) your team will play well 75% of the time; the opponent AI;

    1. will make short offensive runs to test your composure in the 3rd Quarter

    2. will ALSO test your composure by artificially placing your player into a shooting slump (Consistency)

    3. after a period of challenge the "lesser" team will fade or cave in just like normal games played everynight in the NBA.

    4. On occasion you will lose, but, it's clear to you that it was your fault (bad shooting or turnovers) is why your team lost.

    If your team is "weak" (Bucks/Sixers/Rockets) they will play well 50% of the time; the opponent AI;

    1. will give your team an opportunity to stay close and make a run in the 3rd Quarter to get back into the game or win. This is pretty fun even when you lose, it gives you a sense that your team is turning the corner.

    2. your team will be beaten solidly by the "elite" teams (Heat, Bulls, Mavs) but you do play VERY WELL if you make good decisions and take good shots - "a bright spot in an otherwise poor team performance"

    3. Every now and then everything will fall together and you will "pull off" the big upset!!!

    SUPERSTAR/SIM

    Now when you just decide to "un-naturally" change those numbers "across the board" this is where problems arise.

    I am telling you from first hand experience when the AI/CPU doesn't want you to score YOU WON'T!

    Kris Humpries was right under the basket when I gave him the ball with at least ten seconds on the shot clock and he "airballs" it from 2 feet!!! He actually shot the ball under and threw the net!

    <img src="http://media.nba2k.2ksports.com/screenshot/439082b7.jpg" height="475px" width="710px" border="0" />

    There is no secret amongest forum members that play on the higher difficulties that you must gain team possessions in order to keep your team in the game. Either by steals or blocked shots.

    Just because your opponent shoots badly BC they are a POOR TEAM doesn't mean that they are not going to score. They will get offensive rebounds and your team will do stupid stuff to turn the ball over to them to give them ANOTHER ATTEMPT to score.

    Meanwhile the player shooting slumps on your team are longer and more precise (3 Q). It's no longer they have gone "1-5 to start the games", its now 1-7 or you don't score the first 6 minutes after halftime.

    The defense is challenging for the MyPlayer to score but, the AI playing the passing lanes only is just crazy "over-the-top"! Every other time down the floor there is a tipped pass eating into your possession.

    On Superstar all of the scripted crap is SO OBVIOUS, you don't even notice all the cheese going on!

    <img src="http://media.nba2k.2ksports.com/screenshot/a95f88ac.jpg" height="475px" width="710px" border="0" />

    I have a MyPlayer at both ends of the spectrum; PG/Knicks and CEN/Kings; and have found no difficulty as a long term solution.

    For example, My Center (OVR:82) is leading the hapless Kings (OVR: 74) to the 2nd best record in the Western Conference on Pro/Sim...meanwhile my "SUPERSTAR" (OVR: 93) is fighting every night to lead a bunch of other "Stars" to victory.

    I am at a crossroads, I think my Center and PG files somehow got corrupted in the latest PS3 update/patch which has caused the Local Fan Support Boo Glitch (no fault of mine) and may have to just delete these MyPlayer files.

    That being said, the next player will be from start to finish on the All-Star difficulty level to see if I can meet the insanity somewhere in the middle.

    This is not a Rant this is a confirmation of well documented efforts of others warning us of the dangers of playing on the higher difficulties in NBA2k12!

      Re: Official NBA 2K12 My Player Thread

      probably a long post but: so i'm not sure what to spend my skill points on. anyone with experience who can help?

      i'm a 75 overall 6'10" athletic center for the heat. my first season i averaged 6.6ppg, 6.1rpg, 0.4apg and 0.7bpg in 20,7mpg. became a starter in the 81st game of the regular season. played only key games all the time cause i wanted to progress slowly. played really well in the playoffs and averaged 11 ppg, more than 9rpg and 1.5bpg in 34mpg. we won the championship, and i was also on the 2nd all rookie team.

      i average an A+ team mate grade and get A+ every game i play cause i really focus on D and let wade & lebron handle the offense, i just set screens for them and grab rebounds.

      played 2 games my second season and averaged 16ppg, 8rpg, 0.5bpg.

      now i'm just not sure what the best attributes to spend SP on. here are my current stats:
      OFFENSE: shot inside: 91, close 70, medium 35, 3p 26, free throw 57, low post 58, layup 56, dunk 60, st. dunk 65, in traffic 80, off hand 29, ball sec 40, pass 26, hands 75, off rebound 90.

      DEFENSE: low post 74, block 90, steal 36, def reb 91, on-ball d 34

      PHYSICAL: husle 75, speed 64, stamina 67, vertical 85(max), durability 95, quickness 62, strength 83

      MENTAL: off clutch 25, def clutch 27, emotion 50, def aw 75, off aw 81, consistency 65.

      my plan was to get def low post and strength to 90, but anyone who has a better idea?

        PG/SCORING/KNICKS/SUPERSTAR DIFFICULTY

        @threio; you and me both ventured into Superstar/SIM together, but I see that, All-Star is too easy, Superstar is too much cheese, but Superstar/Default seems to be middle ground.

        A huge game vs. Portland on this new difficulty (SS/Default) in a 2OT game. The last minute of the game was incredible, and I hit a stepback 3 at the buzzer to send it into OT; in 1OT, we traded baskets, but Carmelo, who had been shooting in the 20s all game (5-20 at that point) came up clutch to tie the game with under 5 seconds left in OT. In 2OT, Carmelo again took over, and finished with around 25 points, as we win 124-113. I posted a monster statline: 40 points (16/24), 6 rebounds, 16 assists, 4 blocks, and 7 steals.

        ===

        Next game vs. Denver was the biggest cheese fest I'd ever seen. They took [B]40 3-Pointers[B] and shot a better percentage from 3 than from 2FG. They were all like Ray Allen out there, and than some; like Harrington deciding to shoot contested 3s over Anthony, and making them. Our defenders at the SG, SF, other than Carmelo, were horrendous, and I can't wait until management ships their a$$es out after the playoffs. Totally useless offensively and defensively. We're practically playing 5v3 or 5v4 when they're out there...

        Good to see Ilgauskas back, and he scores 10 points on 5-5 shooting; typical numbers we've seen from him this season. The Big 3 + Z (me, Melo, STAT, Ilgauskas) combined for 79 points...and a pathetic performance from our supporting cast not named Keith Bogans, yet again...

          First half stats against my rival Cavs.

          Stat line: 23 minutes, 17 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists (tried hard as **** to pass it but they kept the ball too long), 1 steal, 1 block, 1 turnover, 4-13 from the field, 2-3 from beyond the arch, and 7-8 from the line.

            Something I found funny. Just shows how bad our bench is, again;

            Zach Sheridan (draft pick) decides to shoot an open three in transition, after my outlet pass.

            Steve Kerr: What was he thinking with that shot selection?

            lolol and he [Zach] is a SG...

              tell me about it.. happens every time i play the magic. last time they shot 33 3-pointers. and they have those numbers every time. worst of them is hedo turkoglu who just knocks down most of them no matter how contested and who defends him. especially if the shot clock is ticking down, than all 5 of us can defend him he'll still knock it down over us. my teammates didn't play good d, i did my job and took d12 pretty much out of the game on D and was dunking on him on offense but we still lost cause of all their 3s

                It's even worse the higher the difficulty level gets.

                  only thing missing so far is that d12 starts knocking them down, but i guess that's what happens on higher difficulties. while on my team mike miller and shane battier barely hit any 3pointers. even when wide open. i set so many screens for them to get them wide open outside but they miss 90% of them

                    Oh, I forgot; Steve Nash decided to block Stoudemire from behind while attempting a jump hook; Denver is the biggest cheese in my MP.

                    Also, what is the Ball-Lock icon on my Player? I have the Star, 3, and the Ball-Lock icon? Ball Security? idk.

                      I am considering starting a new MP with the new transactions. If I do, it will most likely be a scoring PG. I will most likely start it tomorrow.
                      I will play on Superstar. The only thing that makes me hesitant is that I have serious problems with TOs

                                This will eventually stop as you get your rebounding skills up. I have been there...oh...wait...don't you just love how the "little man" can push you off the block with no problem? And wait until Earl Boykins "contests" your shot in the low post...or blocks it!

                                Glad to see you back playing MP. Warning the Turnovers are frustrating on Superstar. You are a highly skilled and experienced player but be cautious with the ball. There is hardly any "on-man" defense, most of the time defenders are jumping the passing lanes! Think super MIAMI HEAT defense...everyone has the anticipation, speed and pass tipping skills Lebron has!!!

                                I got 2 in one sequence where I had a pass tipped and stole the ball, then my momentum sent me for a back court violation!

                                All of my frustration comes from the problems the game has on all levels. The high rate of 3's dropping and the poor passing animation/mechanics.

                                Let's be honest here; none of this will be fixed this year, so the "difficulty" is more of a challenge to my patience with the game then my actual skill!

                                I need to go back to having fun instead of testing whether I can play at the difficult levels.

                                I need to create another PG, but this time my actual height/weight (6-0 ; 183 lbs) at 22 years of age...going to miss the grey hair!

                                This time I am going to slow progression by concentrating on Defense and Abilities first; just to see how important the Abilities actually are to the overall performance of the player.

                                Ah, since dunking (i could barely in real life) is out of the question with a short stature, I may start with an "All-Around" or "Scoring" as the playstyle so I can at least put the ball in the basket from somewhere.

                                If All-Star/Sim is too easy, then so be it.
