    Re: NBA 2k13 Impressions Thread

Just got the game hours ago! Thank you, UPS!

Love the options! Shoe creator, CAP, and even My Player! Looks like hours, months of fun! Haven't started an offline association yet, worried about the reports of freezing and not saving. Will try that tomorrow.

The one thing that bothers me, and I don't know if anyone has pointed this out yet? The game, graphically speaking ... doesn't look polished?
Never owned 2k12 but I have 2k11. The players look more clay like on 2k13. Shocked that the team didn't put more resources in presentation. I miss the sharp detail on the players and imo the graphics seem more superior on 2k11.

Agreed. Got manhandled on all-pro, but I was over-committing, playing off of shooters that I shouldn't have been and I was throwing up ugly shots. Felt good losing - that's not something I could say about 2k12.

Also, I'm sorry that some of you aren't enjoying it because I'm having a great time. This game address most, of not all, of my gripes about the last installment. The gold interface is a bit much, but it certainly doesn't hinder my enjoyment of the game whatsoever.

I love this game but will definitely fix the sliders a bit. The CPU makes way to many mid-range jumpers for some reason whether there's tough defense or not. This game is basically perfect...

Played a thrilling game with Pistons vs. Bulls, definitely the most fun i've ever had in a sports game. Tons of sweet plays but the best one was getting boozer guarding brandon knight and taking him off the dribble for the game clinching basket! Really loving the signature skills and the new control stick.

This game is a dream come true. I love everything about it. It feels like 2K11 and 2K12 combined. Player movement is awesome, the defense is very realistic. I just simply LOVE IT.

            Thanks 2K SPORTS!

                Re: NBA 2k13 Impressions Thread

Some quick pros and cons from one game thus far:

                Pros:

                1. Bounce passing is a wonderful addition. Not only does the manual bounce pass provide smoother fast breaks, but even when pressing the pass button by itself, the computer seems to make smarter decisions as to what type of pass to execute.

                2. Pass animations seem improved early on. Playing against the '02 Kings, there were a few pretty dandy looking plays where Bobby Jackson went airborne and dropped off a wonderful little wrap around pass to a waiting (created) Chris Webber down low.

                3. Fast breaks seem smoother and more logical. The bounce passes help, but the logic or setup seems to be quite improved on its own. I'd have to play more, but it seems the point guard does not always come straight to the ball after a change of possession, hence no longer stemming a possible running opportunity. It seemed much easier to catch and go.

Also, filling lanes on breaks seems improved.

                4. The ballhandler/defender interaction has obviously been improved. The funky, morphing, force feed, lightning recovering defense is gone, and that's huge.

                5. I am a huge fan of all the dunk packages provided. I'm still in the midst of figuring out exactly how they work (in terms of what rating is needed for which package) but I'm anxious to see what heavy duty roster editors will be able to pull off with these things.

                6. Blocks seem to be much improved. As the '01 76ers, I actually only had one rejection. The '02 Kings had a handful, and they all featured real-life interactions (i.e. hand extending and swatting ball). Armpit blocks are absent from the early look of things.

                7. I liked what I saw in terms of players hitting the deck after driving into the paint. I noticed there's even a rating/tendency (called "Crash") that can be adjusted for any player to account for how often they fall after contact inside.

                8. Very glad to have free reign over legend transactions from the get-go. I was able to create Eric Snow and Chris Webber right off the bat (using their 2K12 ratings and signatures). Kevin Harlan still says both of their names and to be honest, even if I didn't make the faces perfectly, it's kind of hard to distinguish them from the real thing when they're on the court.

                Some early cons:

                1. The Jay-Z presentation is actually kind of hilarious, just because it's so flipping shameless. The pre-game introductions feel like they're 2 parts Jay-Z, 1 part NBA. The good news is the gameplay itself does not feature much Jay-Z influence, so I'll be able to live with it all. However, never in a million years would I suggest 2K bring him back for a repeat appearance in 2K14.

                2. The auto-save is frustrating, and I feel like it's just a matter of time before I accidentally auto-save one roster over another. Further, it seems to make the game feel a little less stable. I'm afraid to start an Association because I feel like auto-save is just going to mess up and refuse to save anything I've completed.

Separately, as someone who favors making roster changes en masse, it's quite tedious to have to wait for the game to save after every single change I make. And again, I feel like any work I put in is going to randomly get saved over by the official 2K roster at some point this year. I suppose I'll have to be vigilant in making numerous copies of files.

                3. Again, I'm very early into things, but the shoe editing on specific players was a little rough for me. For instance, while editing the '02 Kings, it didn't seem I could give them all black shoes. Nearly every shoe I chose came out as having a white base and purple accent. Eventually, I accepted what seemed to be fate and said, "Oh well, white shoes it is." Then, when I began a game, they were all wearing black shoes. I like the shoe customization options in the Features section, but I wish individual player shoe editing was similar to years before.

                4. Catching and shooting seems to have a hitch. In Richard Hamilton-like situations, with a player running off a curl or screen, often there's a weird hesitation between the moment they catch the ball and when they begin to shoot. It's not really a gather either. It's just... a hitch.

                5. Somewhat tying into auto-saving, I'm not a fan at all of forced intertwining of online and off-line. Again, it makes me feel like things are going to go haywire if my internet connection drops or is down for an extended period of time (as it often is). I don't think we're as ready for an online dependent game as 2K may think we are, particularly when it affects offline modes.

                6. Such a weird dorky thing, but the Dream Team is actually going to be tough for me to use as long as they're all wearing un-editable white, blue, and lightish red generic blocks on their feet. So, I guess the con is they're not editable.

                7. I did not expect this to be present, but I'm a little bummed the additional retro jerseys 2K's art team created in 2K12 for the Legends DLC did not make it into the retail version of 2K13. For instance, it's a bummer to know someone in their lab spent so much time re-creating the 1993 Suns jerseys only to have them shoved into a corner somewhere after their use in 2K12.

What was the point of making Jay the ex producer? Lol
They didn't bleep out proven, Biggie dropps the S-bomb in his lil' backing track thing. Can BARELY even hear it in the original version, but it's there. 2K can't run the risk of anyone complaining that foul lyrics got in their basketball game or the moral guardians would swoop down like Codex Alera crows and pluck out their eyeballs.

Played for about an hour at a friend's crib. Oh yeah. Demo got NOTHING on this. 2K cam makes the right stick beastly. And I don't even spam it unless I'm using a player that does use it alot like Rivers. With Gordon I would do quick strike moves, one move, two moves, attack. Eatin' 'em up!

And I just friggin' love how I can finish at the rim with a small player now. And blocks feel earned rather than people floating into the ball from nowhere.

I have only played 2 games against the computer. I used the Knicks first. The only complaint I have so far is 2k got some of the players head sizes completely wrong. Jr smith has a bobble head in this game, it is huge. Felton has a pea brain size head. I really like the game a lot, cant wait to play it more tonight. The only reason I noticed jr has a gigantic head is because he is one of my top 5 favorite players in the game. Im serious, it's kinda funny, check it out, his head is huge! If you get a chance, compare feltons to jr's, it too funny.

I have to say nba2k13 is the best basketball game I have ever played. 2k did a great job. Basketball is fun again.

My second game was dream team vrs team usa. I lit kobe up with jordan, including a buzzer beater, winning by 1. 40 with jordan. I love this game! !

Not that I mind, but just like in NBA 2K11&12, my MyCareer team(DAL) is getting blown out every game to start our season. I play on HOF Sim btw. I love the game tho.

You are quitting way too early on this game. Most people find the controls challenging at first. It will take some time to get it down, but once you do, you will love it.

Yeah, this one bothers me a lot as well. It kind of hurts the drive and kick game, because the delay allows the defender to close out. it doesn't happen every time...but after catching the pass the shooter sometimes pauses for an annoyingly long time before he can start the shot animation.

Don't feed the troll. He's been doing nothing but complaining the past few months about how he's not buying because of Crew or some other reason. Then he goes and [supposedly] "has to" buy it just to say he's so disgusted by it that it needs to be returned the same day. Silliness, immature, and petty beyond reason.

                                Quick early impressions:

                                - As others have said, there's an almost startling difference between the demo and the retail version

                                - Animations are absolutely crazy; I love all of the contact that occurs. On any given play or you may see players trying to fight through screens and contorting their upper body, to just regular contact when you bump or run into someone. Or you may see someone fall or try to catch their balance from being bumped or their momentum carrying them. I thought last year's movement took a noticeable leap from the previous year, but this year it seems they went several levels beyond last year. Player interaction/movement is superb

                                - Still so-so on the Control Stick. I was able to go into Freestyle practice mode and see the ridiculous array of moves you can pull off - even more amazing that they're context-and-player specific - but hard for me to pull them off intuitively right now. With K12 I was really good at pulling off drives and knowing the timing of how to finish whether left/right or whatever. Haven't gotten that with the Control Stick yet. Need more time practicing

                                - The Presentation is very in your face, but I like it overall. The variable intros spliced with in-game footage are fantastic. The live shots of cities are fantastic. I've found myself several times getting caught up in the soundtrack, although the songs are pretty chopped up because of bleeping out the harsh words. It does seem kinda loud so may turn it down some. There's so much going it's easy to overlook the improvements to the commentary, which was already top-notch

                                - So many little things...
HBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

                                XBL gamertag: d0meBreaker22 (that's a zero)

congrats Steelers, city of Pittsburgh, and Steeler Nation - SIX TIME WORLD CHAMPS
