    Re: NBA 2k13 Impressions Thread

one of the things i was disappointed about before buying the game was the omission of signature cross over moves etc. However when I use LT + LS I sort of notice signature animations. Maybe its just me...

edit. Also did anyone notice replay directors cut???? I saw rondo break jeremy Lin's ankles and wanted to watch the replay. Hit X during the replay by accident and the game did a highlight with music. Pretty cool.

Here are my impressions - PC Version.....Real Copy

Played my first online match today and it was smooth as butter and the graphics were HD this time....So they fixed the PC version online....

They PC version doesn't have that shadowing that the consoles version has, and the animations are more fluid on the console version. But the gameplay as a whole on the PC is fantastic.

Also the guy I was playing online, tried to put some extra cheese with his dip, and I shut it down. Each time I tried to slow the game down, he just kept reaching in a stealing the ball.

When he kept going for forced dunks, I'd post up for a charge and I got the calls.

I don't like the Jay-Z stuff, the music videos and other flash are just overbearing the substance of the game. It was cool for like 5 minutes and after that it became annoying.

But on the court it's complete.....

My biggest complaint and call me petty for it, but is that damn NBA2k13 logo in the bottom left of the screen throughout the game. For crying out loud, that branding crap, seems more like a EA move....I guess 2k is doing it now.

Makes it harder to help market the game with 2k videos on YouTube too, because now the videos get flagged and blocked in countries, due to the damn Jay-Z soundtrack having music everywhere you turn.

I just hope they don't bring him back for 2k14 or I might just pass...

i wish the shooting was easier like nba 2k12, i got a lot of red shots now. I like to play a lot of different types of players in every team so this is disappointing.

also there are too many offensive rebounds man. the other team and mine are getting like 15 offensive rebounds and less defensive rebounds. that don't happen in real life.

why does kyrie irving got 90+ inside shot? he ain't no dwyane wade.

Also, I know the idea behind this is quite stupid but the fact that it works really tells something about the way the game lacks real logic.
Take a good center like Dwight and move him to SG. You can prevent mismatches by assigning him to defend the opposing center.
But the AI wont't react, so by calling plays for him you create mismatches against guards all game long, because the AI assigns matchups simply by position, not taking into account player size or skill.

In other words, if you play the Bucks and move him to SG/PG, you have a matchup against Ellis or Jennnings all game long.

I don't know about the spam lead pass to the paint, but I do agree with the rest of your post. The defense in this game is weak, it lacks physicality, defenders even centers often let players get free layups in the paint, they don't even try to block the shot or foul, help defense is weak also. They don't bump cutters, I remember in 2K12 you could bump cutters, how do you do it in this game? I thought this game was suppose to be more physical? I really cant tell.

Just to let yall know, I play on All-Star with the layup contact sliders on 100 and the layup defense strength on 100 also. The sliders don't seem to work that well for some reason.

Dont get me wrong..I LOVE this game ...but simply put rebounding in this game is broken...cpu goes into god mode on the OReb...just played a game where Detroit had 22 Offensive reb..to my 3 plain ridiculous. If it was just one game I'd say tough luck...but every game I play they are always winning on the boards.

Even saw the other day when D12 grab the rebound and cpu stole it outta his hands before he landed

Loving the game so far, the mercy song is heavily edited wonder why they didn't just leave it off. All I have been doing is getting the hang of the controls in the training camp mode.

Slam Dunk and 3pt. Contest Impressions:

                Dunk Contest

The dunk contest is exactly what many of us feared it would be. The controls are completely unrelated to anything actually occurring on the basketball court. Users do not control where a dunk begins, how it begins, or where a player takes off. In fact, it could be argued the user is not in control of anything, aside from typing in buttons in correct order. As one can imagine, it's virtually impossible to watch the dunk occur in the first place because all of your attention is on the guitar hero screen.

Surely, the dunks are neat and the mode looks nice (the replays look good) but the controls are the opposite of anything I desire out of a video game, particularly when it comes to controlling a slam dunk. I didn't expect there to be an alternate control scheme, but I surely wish one existed.

What I didn't look into is whether every player is tied into that mode separately or if they're from my created roster. Meaning, I'm wondering if I give Larry Johnson a real pair of shoes (not generics) whether he'll be wearing them in the dunk contest or not. If not, it'd add another level of lameness.

Also, there remains zero customization options. Four dunkers must partake and there must be three total dunks per dunker. For me, that means I either have to watch three computer dunkers every time I play, or I'll have to control numerous players to refrain from dying of boredom.

Is the dunk contest fun? It's definitely not the worst thing ever. I'm just offended by the control scheme.

                3pt. Shootout

As some others have said, the 3pt. Shootout is a bit clunky. In my first competition, controlling all six competitors, I was unable to work through every single rack. There's a strange disconnect between picking up the ball and firing. It's not seamless at all. Toward the end, I discovered the best strategy might be to pick up a ball off the rack, pause, then initiate the shooting motion. This of course often makes finishing in time difficult, with the pausing and whatnot.

On the flipside, often if a player picks a ball off the rack and tries to shoot immediately, the game will not pick up that input, resulting in a delayed jump or no shot attempt at all, which takes a second for you to realize, at which point you have to re-shot stick it, costing you valuable seconds.

It looked like the signature jump shots of each player largely made the jump. Strangely, Sean Elliott shot a Kobe Bryant-like fallaway as his squared up three point attempt. As some may know, Elliott was a wide stance, upright, stiff shooting type of guy, so that was weird.

Again, in my one competition, I had two rounds with Mark Price (winner) where I scored as many as 17 and 18 points. On the flip side, I had at least one player score just one point, while Bill Laimbeer may have had four.

I think the mode will be fun to come across during Associations and My Players, but I find the controls of each competition to be relatively jacked up.

Only been playing for about 2 hours but I am already loving this game. I don't know what people are saying about the graphics. On ps3 this game looks beautiful, way better than 2k12.

I love the game but I have a couple of gripes

                    1. Contact animations: I just played against someone that was using the Heat. I like LeBron James but is he on god mode? He was just running in the paint dunking on D12 at will there was no contact at all.Something shouldve happened a layup contact animation should trigger or something.

2.User vs USER opponents can still cheese the steal button...with no foul calls

                    3. LBJ threw an alley to DWade under the basket..he caught it and did a pump two hand reverse slam...while the paint was crowded with 3 defenders

                    4 CPU Rebounds...nuff said

                        General Impressions:

Not a fan of the in game presentation.
Really like the new dunk packages.
No Greatest Games is a negative.

                        Classic Roster Maker Impressions:

No exporting of teams is a big negative.
No changes or upgrades in the CAP system is a negative. (Though they may have fixed the forehead glitch)
Obviously no Jabbar or Dr. J is a negative.

As an 80's Laker fan, they screwed up Magic's signature shot base. They had it right last year...why change it?? He doesn't shoot a jump shot like that....also he looks like he is gliding across the floor when he dribbles.

It appears they have tried to really lock down on roster customization this year by limiting workarounds...Even the Hex guys are discouraged...

From a guy who loves creating classic rosters and watching CPU v CPU games...not particularly pleased...

I agree on everything. Alleys are simply too scripted. You can only try to intercept the pass, but the receiver is stuck in unstoppable dunk/layup animations which can not be interrupted at all.

It's not only the lack of contact but the fact that a player won't lose ball control even if you spam pointless streetball moves over and over again.
There's no such thing as a momentum system to prevent unrealistic spin move abusing.

The problem is that if you bump into a defender, ball security is not impacted in any way. Instead, a contact animation is triggered with no consequences for the ball handler at all.
So you've got 24 seconds to run into defenders as often as possible because at some point you will get past him.

                            FINALLY ONLINE IS PLAYABLE

No more fast break every possession games. Now all I need to do is pick a team and learn their plays like I did with 2k10. In 11/12 I'd just pick random because every team was essentially the same run and gun BS so it didn't really matter.

Just finished beating a guy by 18 my first game online (and first game overall) and the fast breaks were rare. People RARELY hit contested interior shots, bad passes stolen everywhere, defense ACTUALLY WORKS. Its actually better this year to play onball perimeter defense and only switch off if the ball is in the paint.

I love how inside shots don't automatically go in and online is at allstar - default. Thank you 2k

Presentation observation; alot of the individual player highlight packages were stripped last year for whatever reason, they are back this year and amazing

Go to box score during or postgame and hit x on any player and it shows their highlights; just amazing stuff

I'm already tired of Jayz however
