I want a defensive crouch AND post up button. Preferably on the left trigger.

Do not like auto post. Not one bit.

I feel Like on Live it's all about the footwork but they forgot the upper body.

I also think it's more fun and challenging but in my opinion it's not realistic. It's as if to make the cpu good on offense they had to take defensive tools away from the user.
You're saying this as if there is no upper body in defense.

I guess I just don't see how a defensive crouch is your upper body. All it is is a crouch. Guys just crouch over and spread their hands out. It never did anything but make your player slower and unrealistically impossible to pass.

Guys aren't forts. Good defensive players use their feet to stay in front of the player. Upper body becomes important when contact is made. Live still has that in there.

Maybe what you really want is a hand check button?

Re: How Do You All Feel About The Auto Post Up?

I want a manual post up because big men should be able to turn their back and protect the ball before they engage a mismatch on the block. That's basic basketball fundamentals, and the guys are working on a solution.

I don't think we need a defensive crouch at all. Live has a very, very solid foundation for on ball defense. The main thing is to make sure that the auto defensive animation is up to snuff regarding the various different defensive situations: contact on the perimete, double teaming, help D, recovering from helping, getting around screens, auto contesting both on jumpers and layups.

I dont see how a defensive crouch is disrupting any foundation set. Its not a request for lock on D.

Think of it like strafing in Madden. Imagine moving you're LB laterally without being able to strafe. If I want to turn and run with a player, I let go of strafe and run with that player, if I want to back pedal, move left or right without turning, then I stay in strafe.

Does that make sense? I want to be able to move laterally on my own, and turn and move with a ball handler if I want/need to. I dont want the game to decide when I should do this. It just doesn't feel like I have total control of my defender. Having a crouch gives me that control.

It is what it is man..I just think the defense in Live is fun but not realistic at all. I just disagree, I think Live really needs to work on the contact aspect overall but especially on defense. Running around waiting for the cpu to decide when contact is to be made is not realistic. Defense is soooo much more than footwork or just staying in front of a player. You use your arms to cut off angles, to push them in a certain direction, to push off, to deny position...where is that?

I will just agree to disagree but for me this year Live is not a sim as the contact part of basketball is not represented very well in this demo. From the lack of contact on defense, to the lack of post up play outside of the paint (due to lack of contact on defense). Maybe the retail version will be different.

Re: How Do You All Feel About The Auto Post Up?

Hey Biz would you say the CPU def displays what your are talking? Imo I think they do they force you into bad shots by playing physical.

Its usually a combo of help and on ball defenders that force the contact. The problem is the AI that plays with the user is braindead.

They don't help out and never look to cutoff driving players they just try and stand in front of them.

The AI isn't active on D at all even on superstar they just show signs of intelligence. I think this part of the game can be cleaned up in the full vers only because the CPU does display it.

So its not like it doesn't exist in the game at all. If that was the case then I would be worried.

We just got to wait and see on this but I think its there just not for the user.

Ok, so you want a strafe button? I can understand that. I think different people are asking for different things here.

Though, I've found that players go into a defensive crouch when you play close to the offensive player. Depending on how hard you push the analog stick, you can continue to strafe side to the side while playing defense.

I guess I like knowing that I don't have to press an extra button to do what's already happening.

What I would like, however, is for defensive players to instantly recognize when an offensive player is posting up. I don't mind it if defending a post player is automatic, but it needs to happen more often. I have found instances where my defensive player does not body the post player and there is no contact.

Maybe that's where your frustration lies?

I'm thinking your answer will be in what I mentioned in the above post?

You want guys to body players if you place them close enough to do so. Perhaps what's missing is this animation happening more often and also better recognizing situations when it should happen.

This.... Agree on both points. I really like this years D', and find it confusing when people say defense don't have the same momentum or lacks attention.

I'll also have that same problem in the post from time to time as well.

This right here means the defense lacks some attention. There are too many times when your player on defense or offense just flat out does not do want you want them to do. It's taking away control from the user. Some like it and some don't. If this is where sports games are heading...I'm not sure if I'm ready for the ride. This is why I play videogames, give me the control don't let the cpu decide these situations for me. This auto post up/auto contact thing, I am just not liking it.

Let people wear a headband that reacts to electrical signals on the scalp. Then a simple blink or rise of the eyebrow, or movement of the mouth is another click, and one that doesn't need another finger.

I have such a device sitting on my desk. It works well.
