Hey, some people know every single player, like me, I know every single roster, some names might skip my mind at times, but for the most part. Anyways, that doesn't make you not a fan, I mean he might only watch his team so how's he supposed to know other teams unimportant players.

That was my point. For the record, I was being sarcastic, as Walters name was spelled wrong. I know a lot of NBA players, as most people do after watching there favorite teams play. I watch all the Pacers games, so I generally know other teams role players and I even know some that arent so "important". but just cause you focus on your team doesnt mean your not a fan.

Also, I def. know who Walter is, cause I remember all teh 3 pointers he dropped on the Pacers when the Celtics beat the Pacers in the first round 2 or 3 years ago. I still remember the PA announcer saying his name is that horrible accent

Which is why ESPN added the new momentum based gameplay or watever this year. Haven't you guys read about it?

yea we've "read" about it...nobody has played it though.

The words "to a certain degree" is a keyword, and I'd like to ask ... to what degree? There are no real team playsets, but they could have added that instead of the Rookie game

Sad thing is, 'real play sets' registers with so few of us as to how great it makes a game. Maybe Inside Drive 'spoiled' us old school players too much...

'Rookie challenge / All star weekend' gets the kids jumping up and down and begging their parents to buy the game...

why? I don't know. I saw a lot of Celtic games on League Pass last season.

I think it's interesting and intrinsic to basketball on all levels, not just games.

Take that review of NBA 2k3 on IGN, where that Hilary guy basically said that the playsets were useless (and even got in the way), and that the NBA doesn't use more than a handful of plays which is absolute bull#$%^.

The average shmoe really has no idea what 1-4 means or what a flex set is, or that they even exist. Perhaps it's a result of all the isolation/2-on-2 basketball of the marquee teams in the 90's (and those illegal D rules).

Most discussion of basketball I see is about some ISO star's abilities -- no one ever really talks about how Porter's new Princeton-ish offense really got the bucks going last season, or how Sloan's tried and true offensive sets are perhaps not as reliant on marquee talent as other team's offensive schemes. Which is weird, since your average shmoe knows eveything about the different offensive and defensive schemes of the NFL teams. This probably has something to due with the way people play amateur basketball versus football. And perhapos the nature of the commentating and promoting of the two different games.

That's an excellent post...and your absolutely right.

I think the key thing is, in a 'vide game' related context...simplifying it so that everyone understands...is that play sets give the game VARIETY.

Ie, your game against Detroit presents a different challenge to your game against Utah and your game against Dallas.

I don't play much video games, apart from sport. I guess the simplest comparison would be to say that in DOOM 3....every 'boss' or 'enemy' doesn't have the exact same skill / tactics.

And, given that a basketball SIM is supposed to be far more realistic...it's vital all teams don't play identical.
