A dismal two years at St. John's, including a 4 win season in my second year led to an immediate firing. But to be fair, I was starting 4 freshmen and a soph that season, all of them players I recruited the year before.

    Now I am starting over at an independent school, Texas Pan American. First thing I did was cut about half of the players that had no hope of ever leaving the bench. That left with me with 8 active players and not enough for a scrimmage.

    My coach has Charisma and Teaching of A now, so hopefully I can get some decent players there. I am thinking of trying to get them built up enough to make the NCAA Tournament. I have seen Independent teams in the NIT before, but never the NCAA....
    I've played this game for about 14 years now and have never played a legacy with an independent team before! Let us know how it goes and if you can get to the NCAA tournament! That would be quite the feat!

      Yeah, thanks.

      I am watching every game this season (2025-26 in game). I usually sim most of my games, but I like this team and I want to win as many games as possible.

      Currently we are 10-1 with the only loss to Bowling Green. We just didn't play well that game. But we have wins over Michigan and Iowa State who was ranked at the time. We scored 120 points on Michigan and are averaging almost 100 a game. I run an up tempo Loyola style with constant press and double teams.

      I have game coming up against Wisconsin, Texas, and Texas A&M. I am hoping to win at least 1 of those. The team is a solid 85 overall now thanks to decent recruiting (4 stars and the occasional 5 star JUCO).

      And yes, I was able to recruit my created coach's "son". He signed with UTPA as a 4 star SG. I got him despite him being from New York (I was with SJU at the time I created him, before I got fired). SJU was #1 for a long time, but they never offered, and I got him in the end. I also got a nice 3 star C with A+ potential and a decent 3 point shot. He is currently redshirting.

      Anyway, it will take another day or 2 to finish the season and get to the selection show....

        I’m sure you can. I’ve taken Chicago State to the NIT.

          Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

          Just lost a heartbreaker to #6 Texas in Austin. We led the entire game, only to choke it away at the end with poor free throw shooting. They had to foul us, and we missed two straight front ends of the 1 and 1. Then they got the rebound and hit the game winner. 84-82, Texas.

          The loss was our second on the year, and we are now 16-2. We did beat Wisconsin in Madison. One more big game against Texas A&M at their place. We currently sit #4 in the Mid-Major poll with an RPI of 26. Too early yet for Bracketology since it is still January.

          Recruiting wise, we are #2 for a 5 star JUCO PG and a 4 star HS PG. But we are the only school to offer both of them so far. Ten games remain in the season. We should win most of them. I am hoping for a minimum of 5 losses on the year...

          UPDATE: The game after the Texas loss was one of those that made me want to throw my controller through the wall. I really fought the urge to restart this game. There was a lid on the basket all game, and too many stupid passes. We lost a game that I really counted as a win. This one will really hurt our RPI and go down as a bad loss in our resume. St. Francis NY 87, UTPA 80. I guess the guys were still hurting over the Texas loss. That and the CPU cheated. That is the only reason I can think of for this horrible showing.

          Two straight losses. Record now at 16-3 heading into Texas A&M. Dropped to #7 in the Mid-Major poll and RPI #47. I am not confident at all about the TAMU game either....

          UPDATE AGAIN: I got mad and simmed ahead the rest of the year. Won the rest of our games and finished 23-4. No NCAA bid, so I am disappointed. NIT. Again. I don't know how much more I have to do here.

          Looks like those bad losses really hurt. Final RPI 46 and we still didn't make it.

          This game cheats.

          UPDATE: I finally did it. I simmed most of the next season. Finished 26-1, RPI 7, Top 10 in the polls. I finally made the NCAA Tournament.

          I got underseeded though, pretty badly. Only lost 1 game to Oklahoma, beat Okie St, Utah, and several mid major teams and only got... a 5 seed.

          So in conclusion, yes it is possible, but don't expect any rewards from the selection committee...

            It’s always amazing how you can be rolling along in this game, then suddenly you have a game where you can’t shoot and you end up losing to some team you have no business losing to. Seen it happen so much over the years of my legacy. I’ll end up taking care of business against the big dogs I face, then I lose to DePaul or something. It sometimes seems a bit unrealistic, but I guess it keeps me on my toes.

              true, I noticed this happen maybe the first 4 years in my legacy mode, but the upsets seem less and less as you get deeper into a legacy mode though. Now I dont know when Ill win or lose. I just know that I better bring my A-game when it comes to tourney time

                Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

                I’ve been playing multiple career legacies over the past year or so, trying to build a defensive powerhouse that plays at a snail’s pace that’s still efficient on offense (Bennett at UVA). I’ve found it’s easiest to do once I turn around a small conference team. Recruiting for defense and intelligence or size and setting the coach profile sliders to 0 on everything except pressure (I keep that around 35) has worked best for me. One of my goals has been to hold teams under 50 points on average over the course of the season while being #1 in the country in both offensive and defensive efficiency.

                In my latest legacy I started with Norfolk State and was able to turn them into a steady 25+ win team by 2011-2012. We had some fantastic seasons - in the aforementioned year we were a 5 seed in our first NCAA appearance but lost in the first round. That season, we held out opponents to 52.5 PPG and were ranked #2 in OER and #3 in DER. I stayed with Norfolk until 2022-2023 after many tournament appearances and many seasons with top ten efficiency ratings on both ends of the floor, but couldn’t parlay them into deep tournament runs. After a couple runs to the Sweet 16, I moved on to Gonzaga.

                My six year run at Gonzaga was characterized by a steady offense and inconsistency on defense. While we were ranked in the top 20 on offense every season but my first, we were ranked outside the top 40 on defense in three out of six seasons. My best season with Gonzaga was my last, 2028-2029, when we went 33-6 and made a run to the elite eight as a 2 seed. That season saw us in the top five in OER and top ten in DER.

                Following Gonzaga, I went to Morgantown and inherited a very good WVU squad. With lots of talent and a new system, there were some rocky periods of the conference season that led to a 7 seed and a 21-11 regular season record. That talent finally came together in the tournament, and we made a run to the championship game where we lost by two to Seton Hall. That was the best season I had in Morgantown, as the defensive plan could not hold up in a rugged Big East. Over the next two seasons, we were ousted in the second round each time, with DERs outside the top 100.

                Seeking the rewarding feeling of turning around a struggling minnow, I took over Monmouth in 2032-2033 after they finished 3-27. I immediately implemented my defensive and recruiting plans, and there were signs of progress in year one despite finishing 7-23. Year two saw us with a .500 record in conference and defense ranked 7th nationally in efficiency. Building upon a fresh batch of three star recruits, we won the conference tourney in year three and gave one seed Akron(!) a run for their money, losing by nine. A mediocre season in 2035-2036 saw us just miss out on the tourney with a disappointing loss in the conference tourney final. The turning point was 2036-2037, which saw us go 29-6 (17-1) and win a tourney game as a 12 seed.

                With only one player graduating and an 82 rated transfer ready to suit up, 2037-2038 was shaping up to be a historic season for the Hawks. Led by blossoming draft prospect Damien Forney (18.4 PPG, 7 RPG, 1.1 BPG), we earned a 5 seed after going 31-3 in the regular season. A dominating 86-56 first round win over Sam Houston saw us face Washington in the second round, where we lost a heartbreaker 78-75.

                This historic season (stats wise) saw us score 71.2 PPG while only allowing 47.9 to our opponents. Also, we finished the season ranked #1 in both OER and DER!

                We enter 2039 with high hopes for a repeat performance and a deeper run in March!

                  Does anyone have any tips or advice on how to get your players to win Player of the Year or Make AA Team consistently while simming? Or maybe they have playbooks or coaching tendency sliders (Tempo, pressure, etc) they could recommend to get desired stat goals out of their players and get them to make the teams? My guys will end up on the Pre-season show but end the season not making it and only averaging like 10pts, 3ast, etc. Any help would be appreciated

                    The only thing that I can think of is adjusting the coaching tendency sliders, giving them a lot of minutes in the rotations so they play a lot, and maybe most importantly upping their player tendencies (edit player, then go to the bottom) and upping their tendencies in the areas they are most skilled.

                      So I am in year 2 at The Citadel and my top 7 players are all FR. I was 13-16 but went on a run to win my conference tournament, and for the first time I've ever seen it in this game, my team upset the #1 seed in a simulated game 55-50. Almost got to the sweet 16, but came up short 55-59 to the 9 seed.

                        Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

                        Created a little spreadsheet to track my most recent Career Legacy with Kansas City. I've gone with a different type of coach this dynasty, focusing on Teaching and Defense primarily with some points in Charisma each time as well with how important that is for recruiting early on. It's nice to see how much the team has improved defensively from year to year.

                        Here is how the first 3 years went.

                        Year 3 saw me use a very very very weak non-con schedule to my advantage as I went 8-4 in non-conference play and had my team's confidence way up going into conference play. After starting conference play off 1-2, my team would go on to win 11-straight including the conference tournament.

                        Now in year 4 I have my best team all around and things started off extremely well. The first 3 years, offense was hard to come by at times. I had no true shooters on the team, so it was hard trying to score with any consistency. However, this year we started off with 4 straight home games scoring 80+ and winning with ease. It felt a little too good to be true, and I expected to be humbled when we took a trip to Nebraska, but my team escaped with a 73-67 win after Nebraska went 6 of the final 8 minutes without a field goal.

                        My team was 5-0, things felt magical already, then we came home and faced a lowly Central Arkansas team. They started the game up 11-1 and I never had the lead once in the 1st half. The 2nd half started and I still couldn't inch any closer. Then my backups came in, were feeling themselves and I had my first lead with 10 minutes left in the game. The crowd would get going and my team would escape with an 82-77 win.

                        6-0, and my team was feeling like a team of destiny. Game 7 was a very mediocre Rice team. Again, my team started slow, was down 14-5, but I knew after last game there was no need for panic. There was. Rice kept scoring and scoring and scoring. My defense was nowhere to be found. Rice would shot 63% for the entire game winning 94-74 and handing me my first loss of the year.

                        I love how that can happen in this game. My team was on fire to start the year, even went on the road to beat a Power team, then comes home for the next 2 games and plays with fire enough to get burnt. I was able to bounce back against a very bad Morehead State team, so I sit at 7-1 and have another tough task with my next game being at 10-2 Kansas State. They are slightly better than Nebraska on paper, but resume-wise it isn't close. My victory over Nebraska doesn't look as good as it was game 3 of a 6-game losing streak for them with some of those other 5 losses being really bad losses.

                        K-State on the other hand, looks legit and I'm going to need my defense to travel because their offense has put up some very good numbers so far this year. Still, my team is a 76 overall, K-State is a 79 overall, so it isn't like this is some David vs Goliath type of game. They are a Power team, but on paper they are not significantly better than me and it is close enough that them having a mediocre game, or my team playing extremely well is all it might take for me to get the win.

                        We'll see how it goes. Even if I lose, I still like how my team has looked this year and I am beyond excited for conference play. The rest of my conference outside of North Dakota St has fallen off in this legacy, so it looks like it should be a 2-team race only, but you never know. I'm really wanting to go back-to-back with conference titles, and I think this team easily has the potential to do just that.

                        Lastly, here's a small recap of my recruiting so far in this legacy as well as how the roster has looked each year. The Yr column is what year I recruited them, then the last 4 columns are how their overalls have progressed while on the team.

                        Year 1

                        Year 2

                        Year 3

                          Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

                          Just picked up this game and am having a blast. I played CH2K7 as a kid for a while when it came out, but it's my first time playing 2K8. I wanted a challenge so I downloaded some sliders and a 2007-08 roster from these forums and dove straight into Career Legacy.

                          I chose Maryland-Eastern Shore (UMES) and I'm sure as some of you know this team is some serious CHEEKs. There's only 9 players on the roster and they're rated as follows: 65 OVR (6'2"), 58 (6'5"), 57 (5'10"), 57 (5'10"), 53 (6'4"), 52 (6'10"), 51 (6'7"), 47 (6'8"), and 41 (6'9"). This team cannot shoot, rebound, defend, or do anything at least remotely decent. It feels like every game I go on at least one 5+ minute stretch without scoring. I'm bricking 3s, bricking layups, and offense can be really struggling. The layups I see the CPU hit with ease make me go pffffft and when they miss it feels like they grab every offense rebound anyways. Worst team in the game by far.

                          I've played every game so far and 12 games in and I'm.... 0-12. I'm determined to play every game until I get that first win haha. This game really dates itself (still loving it), and I'm learning on the fly to do what you need to do to score, defends, be successful, etc. I'd much rather get realism and struggle than be successful right away and boy I'm getting it. This team in real life went 4-28 so I've still got some time for some wins, especially in conference play as those opponents are typically weaker than my non-conf schedule. I'm shooting 32% from FG and 3 so far on the season, and while a lot of it is user error... but man, this team really sucks! I'm getting better playing every game and feel that first win is close. I'm using 20 minutes halves and am happy how the scores have turned out. Here's how all my games have gone so far:

                          @VCU - Loss 40-90

                          Started out okay-ish and was down 14 at the half, but their press got to me and I started forcing shots (learning you can't do that and need to remain patient) and VCU ended the game on a 28-0 run.

                          Stony Brook - Loss 51-77
                          @Bradley - Loss 46-89

                          Just got worked these two games. Was down 18 and 26 at half, respectively, and my frustration was snowballing.

                          @Iowa - Loss 54-57

                          This was the game that got me hooked and felt like I can get some wins against weaker competition, if not upsets. I wasn't even playing as well as I would've liked, but Iowa was terrible in the first half and I was up 13. My largest lead on the season prior had been like 2-4 points early in games as I've spent most of my time trailing. Iowa came back pretty quickly and cut it to a couple possession game, but I maintained enough offense to keep the lead between 2-6 points. I was winning until about 3 minutes left and then nothing went right. I had an open-look 3 to force OT with my best shooter, but missed.

                          (n) Valparaiso - Loss 65-74
                          (n) FGCU - Loss 61-80
                          FGCU - Loss 66-72

                          The Valpo game was never really in reach as I was down 10 at half and double digits most of the 2nd half. Both FGCU games I was down exactly 1 at half (not sure why I played them twice, one was a tournament and the next was a home game on B2B days; I left my Year 1 schedule as-is). I couldn't buy a bucket and got boatraced in the 2H of the first matchup. Next time around, I jumped out to the second half lead but hit another dryspell with 6 mins left and FGCU went up 10. I made it somewhat interesting in the end, but never got a chance to tie.

                          @West Virginia - Loss 30-75

                          Easily my worst offensive game this season; went on a 10+ minute dryspell in the first half. I felt I was playing this closer to the right way than my first VCU game, but I just couldn't buy a bucket to save my life.

                          Delaware St. - Loss 56-66 (OT)

                          First conference game, at home, against my weakest opponent to-date. I started out hot and my opponent was cold. I was winning 26-11 halfway through the first half and this was my largest lead this season. My opponent was equal-sized as me and for the first time all season my post game was working. I was feeling this was my first win.... until my team proceeded to score 30 points over the final 35 minutes (including OT). Delaware St. took a 6-point lead with 2 minutes left, but I buckled down and hit some quality looks plus defensive stops. I even had a shot to win in regulation, but missed a contested jumper. We trade baskets to start OT and then I get outscored 10-0 from there.

                          @George Washington - Loss 37-77
                          @Old Dominion - Loss 46-73

                          Was down 23 at half to GW and offense was a struggle all game long. Against ODU, I was up 1 at half and felt I had some missed opportunities and could've been up more because of how poorly they were playing. The offense continued to struggle and I got smoked in the second half.

                          Kennesaw St. - Loss 60-78

                          This game was my most frustrating one by far because it was actually winnable despite the final score. My opponent started out hot and I was bricking layups like no other. Not just contested layups... open layups and even fast break layups. I was down 10 early, but claw my way back to tie and take the lead. The rest of the first half was back and forth and they hit a 3 at the beater to go up by 3. Felt like nothing was going my way and everything was going their way, yet I was still in the game. Second half was more of the same... I'm bricking layups and open 3s and they're making contested, reverse, and fadeaway layups at a 95% clip. I don't think I'm joking when I say I missed at least 10 open layups; I was beyond frustrated. I'm down 7-10 most of the 2H until I cut it to 2 with a chance to tie with about 6 mins before the wheels fell off.

                          I might be 0-12, but I've had two games go down to the wire and another 1-2 games in reach, with 5 blowouts and 2 close halftime games before a second half blowout. After starting 0-3 ATS (my own little calculation of the difference between team OVRs +/- 3.5 for the home team), I'm 4-5 since. I have 3 more non-conference games before conference play starts so hopefully I can rack up some wins finally!

                          UPDATE!!!
                          I guess I forgot to save after the last game because when I opened up my save, I was still 0-11. (I actually did forget... I mean what's the difference between 0-11 and 0-12). So I ended up replaying this game and boy did it go differently. Kennesaw St. was a completely different team. I guess they didn't trigger the same shot animations and ended up shooting 32% from FG. I was up 12 at half fully expecting them to comeback in the 2H. Well more of the same continued and my lead ballooned up to 38(!!!), eventually winning 68-35! So now I'm 1-11 and I'm being sure to save immediately after this one.

                            Does anyone happen to know how high your coach’s job security needs to be in order to get a contract extension? At your first school in career legacy, to be specific, but I don’t know if that matters or not.

                              This isn’t about legacies but does anyone who has Xbox 360 and this game want to play online?? Found out it still works

                                Hey guys! Sorry but I didn’t know where else to post this.

                                I bought a modded PS3 mainly to get college hoops 2k8 & ncaa football 2014 back. I have college hoops downloaded but it’s like the very first pre patch version I remember. There’s no shot stick option for FTs. The too many 5 star recruits. No standing dunk for recruits. Etc

                                Question: Can I download the patch to make this game as amazing as it was again? I’m a newbie for mods and not sure how to get the patch downloaded without screwing things up

                                Any info is a god send
