Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

Just an update before I dive into finally playing a few games in year 2 of the Idaho State legacy. The recruiting plan worked pretty well, although I caved at the end and signed two 2* recruits to fill the rotation. Big mistake, i hate 2* recruits and these guys are no exception, rated 54 and 53.

Simming all the games didn't hurt too much, the team finished 14-15 (9-7) with upset wins over Iowa and Utah along the way. The team actually made it to the conference tournament final, I probly should have just played that one and picked up a coaching point. I only picked up 2 points, for 10 wins and no unhappy players... not a good start as far as that goes. I did pick up 1 more in the offseason for signing world recruits.

I had my 4* Mr. Basketball up to 95% going into the offseason, Boise was 100% but didn't offer him a scholarship. I knew if he didn't sign with me the first day Boise would snatch him up. He didnt sign, and sure enough Boise got him in week 2.

Final Tally: Five overall 3* recruits, Two 2* recruits (ugh).

One 3* JUCO pf, Three 3* world recruits (2 centers and a pg, including a 7 ft 293 lb kid from NZ), and a 3* sf from spokane, wa.

I hope to have better success at UC-Irvine, being that they have a better overall talent base, recruiting pool, better conference and likely more recruiting points to use. I will squeeze in a game or two this morning before I have a job interview.

the 3* small forward was from cameroon, and i was on him early so he was pretty easy to sign, 7' 3* was from new york i believe and to be honest i don't remember much about recruiting him... i do remember the 6'8 3* was somewhere far away, picked him up at the end found him flying under the radar, probably because he's 6'8 and fat for a center

the 7 footer is an absolute monster though at least playing against this competition in this league he's leadin the league in rebounding and i'd say he probably gets over 5 dunks a game mostly based on feeds from my small forward, and he blocks shots like nobodys busness, both of them are only a 66 overall but they play much higher than their rating (if you play every game you'll end up finding a lot of guys who play above their capabilites)

i'm having a lot more trouble recruiting this year goin after about 5 world guys all 3* because i have like 6 power forwards and they're all unhappy lol.... only have 2 scholly's but i'm anticipating a few transfers... actually i have one guy who i just offered who's #115 overall i think he's a 6'8 PF from cali, which is a BIG stretch but he's definitely flying under the radar right now...

just beat monmouth, avenging an earlier loss... moved to 11-4 in conference, but more importantly just surpassed mount st. mary's for first place in conference, they are 11-5, i have 3 games left so they have 2 but they beat me twice so they have the tiebreak... if i win out i'm golden, but i've had trouble stringing together wins all season god i love this game lol

so I started up a new Legacy with the 2010 roster updates ULM.

I got BLASTED right out the gate by 40+ points. 15 minute quarters.

102 - 55 by Kansas. It was UGLY.
Xavier Henry was player of the game with 29 pts 5 boards and 2 assists

I focused on stopping Sherron Collins and I did a good job and held him to 7 & 4.

My high scorer was my PG (Ty Hooper) with 19 pts 3 boards aand 3 assists

Game 2 was in the OReilly auto parts classic B
I handed VMI 91 to 75. Hooper had 32 pts

up next is Mich State, I expect to get the hammer dropped on me once again.

and recruiting is doesnt look too promising right now, we'll see how that shakes out

is there a way to turn off the opposing team from doing too much 2-2-1 press?

if not, should I turn up computer steals to make it more effective?

            help is appreciated!

thats one of the incentives to do a open legacy, CPU press is ridiculously easy to break for layups, i find myself just pulling back once i get past it and setting up my halfcourt offense...

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

My plan with Idaho State was to sim the nonconference and play all the conference games until I had the regular season championship locked up, then sim up to the conference tournament and play that.

The team really stunk it up in the nonconference, going 1-11, the only win coming by 1 point against Denver. I noticed my starting pg was unhappy and after checking the rotation I saw for some reason he was only scheduled to play 1 min per game... UGH! Anyway, I took over in the conference games expecting to win like 12 or 13 in a row, mostly by blowout, and was pretty surprised at the competition I had from the Big Sky opponents. I started 3-0 but nearly lost to Eastern Washington, the worst team in the conference, then lost by 10 at Weber State, the best team in the conference.

A couple games later I lost a heartbreaker to Portland State 68-66, because I didn't have enough team fouls to put them on the line. Intentionally fouled 4 times in the final 30 seconds, so decided to turn up the fouls.

Then things started to click and I blew away Sacramento State by 39 leading up to the rematch with 8-0 Portland State. I built a huge 30-12 lead in the first half then watched as they went berzerk from 3 and came all the back to take the lead in the 2nd half. My guys regrouped and eventually pulled away a 2nd time and won 71-63. Currently 9-2 in the conference, with Weber State and Portland State both 8-2, and a huge rematch looming with Weber State in a couple games.

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

Won both games heading into the clash with Weber State, giving me a 6 game win streak going in. Back in forth early, lots of missed shots for both teams. My main strategy was to stick to their star SG Lillard (85 overall) like glue the whole game and force someone else to beat me. Well it worked as far as shutting him down, but trailed 28-22 at halftime. However their SF had 16 pts. In fact the SF and Lillard combined for 24 of the teams 28 points.

Second half got off to a slow start, and I quickly fell behind 38-26. I was at the point where I pretty much hung my head and said "well I'm not gonna win this one". It seemed Weber State just presented a matchup problem I had no answer for, when suddenly I was able to force some quick turnovers and went on a big run... when the dust settled I had a 41-40 lead. Buckets were still hard to come by for both teams but with 13 seconds left, clinging to a 1 point lead my PG nailed a 3 pointer from the top of the key to go up 59-55. This wound up as the final score as Idaho State took control of 1st place in the Big Sky conference.

I went on to go 13-2 and locked up the #1 seed, simulating the final game (losing 75-73) to complete a 13-3 conference season. Time to play the conference tourney, 1st game is against the team I simmed against in the final regular conference game, Montana...

well i won my conference tournament and regular season championship playin some great games along the way, i got the number 12 seed in the south regional and the committee gave me a HUGE break matchin me up against number 5 pepperdine! pepperdine has been sitting atop the mid-major poll all year and i guess lost their first conference tournament game, not sure how they still made it in, but i'm really feeling confident going into this game

next possible matchup is the winner between oregon and southern illinois

                      .
i had a similar game to that... in my conference semi-finals i had to play fairleigh dickinson, they have the highest rating in our conference and had been underachieving all year and were giving me absolute fits... it seemed as if my young team was gonna bow out early in the conference tournament as i was down 35-25 with about 7 minutes left in the game, but i made a couple bucks and locked down on defense which has been my staple all season, i ended up winning the game 57-43 holding them to 8 points in the last 7 minutes! it was huge

LOL ACC got 10 teams in this tournament wtf!!!

and the big east with only 4 lol....

butler at 22-6 gets left out while alabama gets in at 19-14 and duke gets in at 16-14 lol.....

one of my only gripes in this game

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

Just a quick update on my Wagner Legacy. I didn't stay at Wagner long, jumping to UC-Irvine after two years and then to VCU after three years at UCI. I am currently in year 2 of my run at VCU and am 5-4 early in the year with a recent blowout loss at Clemson. I have two guards who can shoot the 3 very well, a big SF who is athletic but not a great shooter and very workmanlike big men. My team will go as far as my guards take me and my goal with 4 scholarships is to upgrade the frontcourt and find a SG who can stroke it from deep.

In the early signing period I landed a 3* 6-8 PF with B+ potential and I am in good shape with a 3* center and a 4* SG who has no other offers as of now.

On a side note what I like about this game compared to past year's is that it's hard to land 4 and 5* players until your team is really really good and there aren't many 5* world recruits anymore and the 3* world recruits I got weren't that good and were only rated in the high 60's. I will update my status and hope a good run this year may lead to a job at a high major school that will be a major rebuild and a nice step up in conference competition.

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

I got kinda screwed in the postseason awards... my team won the regular season and conference tournament but I didn't win coach of the year, my center led the conference in rebounding and averaged a double double for the season yet didn't make 1st or 2nd team all conference. Freshman of the year went to a backup from another team that averaged 8.2 ppg and virtually no other stats, while my freshman starting sg averaged 9.1 ppg and 3.7 apg and didn't even make freshman all conference... I put in a lot of work in this season and only came away with 3 coaching points, I'm pretty disappointed and almost considered starting all over again.

Also, my contract was extended after the year, which meant I had next to no offers in the coaching carousel. That always bugs me, I don't get the choice to sign the extension it's always automatic. The best offer I saw was from Cal St Fullterton which I NEARLY accepted, instead I'll come back to a pretty solid Idaho State team and add a couple more pieces.

Yeah sometimes I notice that the postseason awards make little to no sense but I suppose better to have that kind of stuff not always be accurate as opposed to other more crucial elements in the game. In the past few years on the coaching carousel I have found it frustrating that when a lot of really good jobs open up I'm coming off a really bad season and can get no offers. In one offseason in my game Duke, Maryland, Syracuse, UCLA, South Florida, Minnesota all opened up and that caused a lot of other good mid major jobs like Gonzaga, Nevada to open up because the big schools hired those coaches. I got passed over for all of those jobs and it made more sense to come back to my current team, which was rated higher than any open job I was offered.

Yeah and if you come off a great season there will only be like 1 or 2 good jobs and neither makes an offer lol. I got into SIM mode with my legacy, abandoning my goal of getting to a power conference as fast as possible, ending up spending 11 years at Idaho State. Five straight 25+ win seasons, including building an 88 overall team (from the Big Sky!!) didn't even get me any decent mid major offers. The best offer during this stretch was from Youngstown St which was only 72 overall and coming off a 7-22 season so I stayed. One season I went 29-1 (16-0) and couldn't crack the top 25. This was a really disappointing legacy despite the great coaching record, so once again I'm starting over.... fewer updates this time so I don't clog the thread

well i finished year 2 at long island... i lost my first ncaa tournament game to pepperdine, i was down the whole way they were a significantly better team then myself, though at one point i cut the deficit to 1 i might have even taken a small lead but it was short-lived.

i signed a 3* power forward out of california, he was the #113 overall prospect, #8 power forward i believe... big sign for me, and i signed a 3* SG/SF out of france who's 6'6 combine that with the 3* PG/SG and i had a very good class, though i left three scholarships unsigned because of transfers away from my program.

so i've started year 3 right where i left off last season. lost my first game in a tournament to florida (who seems to be a national title contender). it was interesting they had a walk-on center on their squad and it was the same french center i was recruiting last season.

i'm finally starting to make some noise on the mid-major top 25 poll as i was at #14 to start this week and just beat 5-1 #2 valparaiso...

recruiting this year is going very well i have 2 seniors and the 3 scholarships that i did not fill from last year... i already lost a 3* SG who was my top priority as my scouts had him as the best shooter and with the most potential as anyone else i was lookign at. but as of right now i look to be getting a 4* point guard from puerto rico, i think 2 4* shooting guards, one from washington, the other from utah. a 3* small forward from queens who looks to be the shooter of the bunch and a 3* center from cameroon (will hopefully be reunited with lucca mbaha moute his country mate and my small forward) he's 7' 270 so he'll bring some beef to my front court though he will probably be redshirted.

this point guard seems to be the real deal, its not often you find 4* world recruits so far he's a C+ at close, medium, and 3-point shooting and a C at free throws as well as a B at shot of the dribble... i really like the shot of dribble rating because i like my pointguards to work that pick n roll game and if he can shoot coming off of those screens that will be an added dimension to my offense

so far my only real weakness is i don't have a single 3-point shooter. my only3 point shooter graduated last season and the 2 guards i signed are very good at getting to the hoop and scoring but neither are a knock-down shooter
