Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread

Smh, Jones got that contract based off guarding CP3 in the playoffs haha... dunno why the Pacers did that (I guess to replace Marquis Daniels' defense or something). He'll wow you with a dunk or defensive play once in a while, but I hope they're not planning to play him more than 15 MPG, because he's all missed jumpers and lack of skills otherwise... can't handle, can't drive/finish reliably, doesn't pass... Great pickup, Indiana! At least he's not a goofy white dude haha..

I'm not worried about them at all -- Weems is a pure scorer and Lawson will also add some offense off the bench. They definitely need a SF if Kleiza leaves (Barnes is my pick), but I think they're going to work some kind of trade because they don't want to lose their big exception leftover from the Camby trade (there's another one added to it also, I think from the Petro trade), which expires in November.

But yeah, the 3 isn't a big problem since 'Melo gets 85% of minutes there. I think Weems is ready to contribute, but if not, backup SG will definitely be a hole because JR does get into foul trouble and probably will get about 32 MPG, leaving a decent chunk of time left for someone else. The real hole in my mind is still in the middle -- we really need another big body, but I assume they'll probably just get someone for the minimum to fill the spot and spend more money on that bench scorer role (especially since there aren't exactly a ton of skilled bigs on the market).

NOT going to happen. Broy is going to get a max contract and Aldridge is going to get almost max contract. This is the last year they can sign anyone. So anyone is a good pickup. Plus Im sure one of the richest men in the world would not mind to pay 15+mil it's like pocket change.

Channing Frye, Grant Hill to Suns

Grant Hill(notes) has decided to re-sign with Phoenix, and a large part of the decision is based on the belief that Steve Nash(notes) is close to reaching an agreement on a contract extension, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Hill has begun telling associates he’s staying with the Suns. Phoenix owner Robert Sarver, general manager Steve Kerr and coach Alvin Gentry met with Hill on Wednesday night and Thursday morning in Florida.

The Suns will also sign free agent Channing Frye(notes) to a two-year deal for $3.8 million, sources said. The second season is at Frye’s option.

The New York Knicks reportedly offered Hill the choice of a one-year, $5 million deal or a three-year, $10 million contract. Hill also had an offer from the Boston Celtics.Nevertheless, he’s believed to be comfortable with the direction of the Suns to re-sign there.

The terms of the Nash extension are unclear, although one source believes it is a three-year deal worth about $33 million.

Looks like Steve will try to finish his career with the Suns.

Four years on Jarrett Jack offer sheet

It didn’t take Bryan Colangelo long at all to make his next free agent move.

The Raptors president and general manager will, if he hasn’t already, extend a four-year contract offer sheet to free agent guard Jarrett Jack.

There’s no financial terms available right now but Jack made $2.2 million last season with the Indiana Pacers and it’s unlikely the Raptors wouldn’t make an offer that at least includes a marginal raise in the first year.

The four years is the interesting point. Colangelo said he was looking mainly at short-term contracts to avoid future tax penalties but if the salary is low enough, he must feel comfortable that it won’t have any long-term implications.

Jack, a college teammate of Chris Bosh at Georgia Tech, averaged 13.1 points and 4.4 assists per game with the Pacers last year, when he started 53 of 82 games, beating out former Raptor T.J. Ford for the starting role.

At 6'3, he’s also more than able to play a little two-guard and would be the kind of combo guard Colangelo likes.

Because the 25-year-old Jack is a restricted free agent, the Pacers will have seven days from the time the offer sheet is signed to decide whether or not they’ll match it. Team officials there have given no public indication before today what they would do in the event of an offer to Jack but have said they want to avoid any chance at crossing the tax threshold of $69.9 million.

Thats a real nice move for the Raps. Jack is going to be a really nice backup and change of pace from Calderon. TOR's offseason has been phenomenal. Should def be this years Hawks.

Yeah and I would not be surprised if he starts...He's def. going to be the Pg late in the game if we need to protect the lead, but he can also play 2 guard with Jose at the 1 as he is a big 6'4 combo guard.

Yup, traded Affalo and Walter Sharpe to Denver for a future second rounder. Saves Detroit about 2 million.

I'm so so so happy about that trade. Can't believe we got Afflalo for just a future 2nd rounder. He's a great backup to have, he's young, he can defend 2s, he can handle the ball, he can shoot it deep.. great move by the front office. If Lawson isn't ready to contribute a solid 20 minutes, Afflalo can play backup PG for us and be a big upgrade from Anthony Carter. Plus Chauncey liked him and he's a great person for him to mentor -- having a veteran like Chauncey around makes it even more attractive to pick up cheapo young guards because you never know what you'll end up with in 2-3 years.

I don't know **** about Walter Sharpe. Anyone care to educate me? At least he's 6'9", that's a start haha.. can he rebound/defend, or is he a low post scoring type?

Been some chatter that Boozer might end up in Miami with what I'm assuming involves Beasley being shipped out. I'm a fan of Boozer's grinding style, but not sure he instantly gives the Heat enough of an upgrade to consider themselves on the same level as the Celtics, Magic, and Cavaliers this season. Especially considering subtracting Beasley removes the Heat's only front court scoring option and puts even more strain on Wade once the offense starts to bog down.

                              ALLEN IVERSON TO THE CLIPPERS!?!?!?!

Free agent guard Allen Iverson is said to be in heavy discussions about signing with the Clippers.
Lisa Dillman, who covers the Clips for the L.A. Times, said via Twitter that talks are "very serious," and that a source close to Iverson wasn't authorized to comment further. Iverson to the Clippers might put some fans in the stands, but it would be hard to imagine the value of Eric Gordon not taking a substantial hit. Stay tuned.

Eric Gordon was a STUD last season...
