Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
[QUOTE=Cebby;2039782116]The 5th-6th option on a team had pedestrian statistics?
Man, that's crazy. Okay, I'm confused - first you sing his praises now you're saying he's the 5th or 6th option on the 2009 Lakers...so this means he would have been the 12th or 13th option on the 1988 Lakers, right?
They were the 7th and 9th men on Denver. I doubt you'll find a lot of studs at those spots on any team. Jones started...and you just said Anthony Carter was the 9th man. So Denver has two 9th men?
The 2004 Olympic team didn't win bronze because the era was bad, they won the bronze because they sent over the United States' C squad.
I agree - we didn't send the "A" team. But this "era" you speak of is still going because all 12 players are still in the NBA. Yes, Iverson has tailed off, but Carmelo, LeBron, and Wade were playing at a high level in 2004 and are playing at a high level now. You can't possibly get me to buy into this "weak team" argument - we got our asses handed to us because team basketball has gone out the window, fundamentals are abysmal, and guys simply do not shoot the ball as well as they did 20 years ago. The stats back it up - look in the history books. Hell, the 1992 NBA could have sent its D team of Brad Daugherty, Joe Dumars, Terry Porter, Hersey Hawkins, and Tom Chambers and still won the whole thing. I don't buy this "weak team" crap. It was a damn good mixture of young studs and savvy vets and we simply got our asses handed to us because American basketball ain't what it used to be!!! I know you may be too young to realize it but I'm not....and 2008 reiterated the fact that even our "Redeem Team" is barely good enough to hold off a team who started Rudy Fernandez and Pau Gasol, among others."He who controlleths the backboard, controlleths the game." - Adolph RuppComment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
I'd love if Frye came to the Nuggets... a big that can space the floor is something we could use with our 2nd unit... Birdman and Frye would be a cool tandem. Don't want to spend much more than the minimum for him though -- no bidding war for a guy like that. He's young and as tall as Nene.. if he can shoot like he normally does while adding some rebounding to his game, I'd be happy. Better than Petro at the least. Brandon Bass would be cool as well, but I don't think he's a good enough fit with the Nugs personnel to justify the money he'll probably get (MLEish)... we really need a taller C-capable player.Send your Midnight Release weirdo pics/videos to my new website: http://www.peopleofmidnightreleases.com!Comment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
Reportedely, Dallas and Fegan are pushing to get it done. They are trying to involve OKC or MEM.
As for the Cavs, I think I would prefer Barnes over Kleiza or Frye. Any of the three would give us a shooting PF, but only Barnes has any defensive ability. Unless we can find a solid backup 3, allowing Bron to play more minutes at the 4, we would still get toasted by the Shards/Odoms of the world with Andy, Kleiza, D-Block, or Frye at the PF.
In other news, whilw there have been denials on both sides "sources" say DET is talking to UTA about a Rip for Boozer swap, which would make perfect sense. Worth watching.Last edited by HMcCoy; 07-07-2009, 12:04 AM.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

We didn't send the NBA MVP and best PF. We didn't send our top 2 centers. We didn't send our top 5 guards. How did we not send a "weak team"? Of the 12 American All-NBA players, we sent 1. Of the 20 American All Stars, we sent 2. That's the definition of a "weak team."
and 2008 reiterated the fact that even our "Redeem Team" is barely good enough to hold off a team who started Rudy Fernandez and Pau Gasol, among others.
Lastly, I'm not sure that the 2008 Spain team is a team to overly disparage. 4 of their players are 10+ PPG players in the NBA and another would likely have been the #2 pick if he was willing to sign.
International basketball has come a long way. The Dream Team was the best team ever and likely won't be surpassed, but the 2004 team was a terrible team by USA standards. The 2008 team was not the best the US could have sent yet was the second best basketball team ever assembled.Last edited by Cebby; 07-07-2009, 02:10 AM.Comment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
If the Marion deal is indeed done then what a coup by BC. The Raps would get a pretty good veteran player who still has some gas left in the tank and while Stack could make 7 mil next year it's heavily incentive laden so it's only 2 mil guaranteed. This would give the Raps a pretty good player next year while freeing up more cap for the next offseason.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Originally posted by Windhorst's TwitterYahoo! says Suns leaders to get C.Frye. Cavs still talking to McDyess, Kleiza & Wally S. too. Focus now is Varejao, tho
I know OSU will barf at this, but seriously tho, I liked Wally as a backup forward. He played well until the Joe Smith acquisition forced him to the backup SG spot, where he was getting blown by on a nightly basis. Wally's post defense is actually pretty strong. Its on the perimeter that he gets baked...Last edited by HMcCoy; 07-07-2009, 12:41 AM.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
LMAO. Andy leaving over 6 million on the table deciding to opt out makes me
Dice would be a good catch for you.. Forget Wally and Andy though, unless they sign for the minimum forget em.
Frye is worthless IMO. Just worthless. Forget him as well. No time to take a risk on gambling for Frye to be ready to contribute to a championship team. He's yet to find an identity on this level.
Best case scenario for CLE is any two of this combo: Dice/Marion/Parker/KleizaComment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
This would be an interesting trade. Utah would become very scary IMO. RIP would fit in well there, and looking at Utah's payroll, they'd still be very much in the running to add another marquee free agent money wise.
On DET's end, I'm not sure.. It would mean BG would definitely be the starting shooting guard.. but that lineup would never scare me, especially if Boozer was signed long term for big money.
Stuck/BG/Prince/CV/Boozer
Talks between the Jazz and Pistons regarding a trade involving Carlos Boozer and Richard Hamilton have reportedly continued.
The News Herald doesn't believe that Hamilton will fit with Ben Gordon in Detroit, and Utah has been rumored to prefer the younger Paul Millsap at power forward all along.Comment
