Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
You guys went from Ariza, Artest, and Villanueva...to them.
Damn. I'm starting to believe in that curse man. Lol.Comment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
Im not a big fan of Shawn Marion due to his attitude and ugly jumper, but he's still better than Ariza and Charlie V, and only slightly below Artest. Doubt we get him either though.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
Honestly I didn't see much of him last year, but I remember thinking he just doesn't care anymore.
However Ariza would not have fit at all IMO. Like I said before Ariza cannot play the off guard.Comment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
If he was chapped by not getting enough love behind Nash and Amare, no way he'll want to be in Bron/Shaq's shadow. If all he's going to get is the mid-level, he's got a few options...as long as he only wants 3 years. Any 5 year back loaded deals are going to be much bigger cap hits 4-5 years down the road with the new CBA in place. Guys like CV and Ariza better be All-Stars by then because the shrinking salary cap is going to make their contracts seem HUGE.Last edited by HMcCoy; 07-03-2009, 12:42 AM.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
But IMO, Charlie Villanueva would have been a huge plus for you guys. Much more than Marion.
Marion just doesn't look like he has it any more. Don't know if it's a product of the system, or age, or what. But, he just doesn't have the same impact that we saw in Phoenix.
On the other hand, CV has improved steadily. Plus, he would have been someone who would keep the defense honest with the ability to consistently knock down shots. Marion, is hit-and-miss with his jumper. With SHAQ and LeBron, spacing is going to be critical for you guys, and Marion would have not helped with that.
Not only that, but I don't think it would be very wise to have Marion at the four spot, if that's what they would elect to do. I think he would be a liability defensively against the better bigs, and would be a problem if you face certain teams in the playoffs (Lakers, Spurs, Celtics). As a Cavs fan, I would be very worried about that. More than likely, you will end up facing one of those teams if you plan on winning a title.
So Marion is not the answer, IMO.
I think Sheed should be who you guys push for next.
EDIT: Mac, Do you guys even have a chance at acquiring Sheed? All I know is that he's a free man. lol.Last edited by TMagic; 07-03-2009, 12:47 AM.Comment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
Yeah, CV would have been a tremendous fit here...no doubt about it.
Marion would split time at the 4 with Andy and Bron depending on matchup. He could start at the 3 or four and defend both. Sheed does nothing to help stop Shard, Jamison, or any other combo forward, IMO...and "that guy" is going to be the new flavor around the league with the number of real postup threats diminishing. Bron could be that hybrid guy for us if we can get a servicable wing like Rip Jefferson. Oh wait.
Sheed's shooting would have been nice, but he'll probably be in BOS.
Either way, this has been a horrible off-season for the Cavs so far. Everything has broken wrong from Boozer opting in to Yao's foot problems being disclosed. We trot out 37 year-old Shaq while every other contender has gotten a very good wing guy for literal peanuts. Hopefully the trade deadline will be better to us.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
You guys all make good points, so I won't get into details, but what Cleveland absolutely cannot do is get smaller. The best teams in the league are tall, and along and they all play good defense now. Rebounding will be the key to the championship, especially against LA, Orlando and Denver. If you give those three teams more shots, they will definitely beat you. Detroit has already made that mistake. Regardless of what they do offensively and defensively, I don't think they will be able to rebound well enough to compete unless they have more moves up their sleeve.
One of Cleveland's biggest advantages was that they were so big. They could limit points and possessions, and utilize Lebron's surefire driving and passing ability to win out against better teams in a close game. Since they have Shaq, they can't really opt to get faster. So they either have to get shooting--which they really already have in the backcourt with Mo and West--or they have to get bigger.
If I were a Cleveland fan, I'd be hoping for them to get bigger. If you're focused on winning a championship, you are really only worried about LA, SA, Orlando, Denver and Boston right now. You can't just go out and get "talent" like Ariza. You have to match up.Comment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
NY guys I can understand. The rest of the world doesn't give two sh**s about the Knicks, but they would absolutely LOVE to see this city suffer that loss. Just hoping and praying. Its actually pretty sick, and says more about you than the situation...
Back on topic, I agree with you Born. We need to be able to matchup with the lakers length, and ORL's bigs. We definetly need to retain Andy who is a MONSTER on the offensive glass. Marion is still a phenomenal rebounder also.Last edited by HMcCoy; 07-03-2009, 04:32 AM.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
Andy? queen of flop... is a monster??$%#@%%
get Ariza or odom or someone who can ball defend and set guys cause cavs biggest lack is size and PG odom would solve this both issues size and PG skills, Ariza would make them very good defending with bron playing from SG to PF.Comment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
You know I have this feeling that this year's free agency is gonna be better then next year. I know all the BIG names are FAs next year, but if most of them choose to stay, then it won't be as interesting. We've already seen teams trading to get better and it's still July.Comment
