Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
Gooden is more of a PF/SF than PF/C, ZB. He can't give you many minutes at center. He's more of a finesse post player than a banger, and easily gets beat up in a crowd. He won't get you many contested boards, or give you sustained post defense. He'll stick his hands in there, but not his nose.
What Drew does bring to the table is a very, very versatile bigman scoring, and he can really be a matchup nightmare for conventional PF's, and with a really nice offensive bag of tricks in the post if you try to guard him small. He can face up and put in on the floor, hes got a great baseline J, and a nice turnaround...and when he "makes it rain" he can get hot in a hurry.
Hes got a very low attention span, makes alot of mental errors, loses track of the game sometimes...but when focused hes a really good peice. You'll like Drew, he's definitely a more versatile player than Bass, but you'll still need a more physical guy at backup C.[/AlexB]
Dallas definitely needs to add a starting caliber defensive post, so Damp can be a backup, but it will be good to have a backup post filling Bass's role that can score on the inside. I imagine Gooden will bring more consistent inside scoring.
The Mavs will probably be running a lot of small ball this season with essentially two PFs on the court together in Dirk and Gooden when they go against teams without a great center. I realize it's not a huge difference making addition, but it's another small piece to the puzzle that should be a slight upgrade. Bass just didnt fit in Dallas because of his size limitations. I know Gooden is not a center, but he should be able to rebound better and provide more post scoring in the small ball lineup than 6'7 Bass.
btw, were the Cavs trying to bring him back? I heard that it was between Cleveland, Charlotte, and DallasLast edited by ZB9; 07-26-2009, 07:52 PM.Comment

I know. Neither Bass nor Gooden are good defenders. Gooden should be a better defensive rebounder though.Comment

Tyson Chandler's game would fit DAL like a glove, IMO. Surprised they haven't made a push for him unless they're confident they can land Bosh next season...Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

Not to mention LeBron hated his stupid mental lapses on the floor, constantly yelling and glaring at him like Gooden was his little child.Too Old To Game Club

Dallas is definitely gunning for a center though, and they will have some cap pieces to trade for one if a team is looking to clear salary approaching 2010. A center is what they are really missing obviously. The Mavs wont be a true contender until they can improve at that spot.
Damp has his moments, but his stone hands are best suited in a backup role. Hollins would be a good 3rd center, but he's not the ideal backup. One good thing though, is that there arent many teams with solid center rotations in the west.Last edited by ZB9; 07-26-2009, 08:20 PM.Comment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
Would this propel NO's to another level?
The Hornets and Bobcats are in advanced discussions on a trade that would send center Tyson Chandler to Charlotte in exchange for fellow big man Emeka Okafor, according to NBA front-office sources.
It was not immediately known if the teams are ready to complete the swap -- or if the deal would expand to include other players or teams -- but sources close to the process said talks featuring Chandler and Okafor as the main components have been ongoing since late last week.

No, but it will cut down David West's numbers so he's not an All-Star again. That's a win.Send your Midnight Release weirdo pics/videos to my new website: http://www.peopleofmidnightreleases.com!Comment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
Probably not. Okafor is not that much of a plus than Chandler. Chandler and Paul have a chemistry that most don't have with that alley-oop as well. Paul needs a scorer, or at the very least someone on the perimeter that can create something for himself/others. Too bad Odom couldn't be had..I do because I can, I can because I want, I want because you say I can'tComment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
Yeah either team.
Chandler just didn't look the same last year as in years past. Even before his injury.
Who knows though..
I really like Oak, over his entire career guy has been nothing but consistent. Am I wrong CHA fans?
For some reason I don't trust Chandler outside of NO's. I dunno.Comment
