Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
That's a nice pickup by the Wiz...Now this can give McGee a little more time to to get himself to together. And if Haywood gets in foul trouble Oberto can come in and play some D and grab some boards.. We have our Varajao (sp) however you spell that flopper nameWashington Redskins
Washington Wizards
St.Louis Cardinals
Uconn Huskies

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
IMO the Grizz waited until all the contenders made their move and used all their cap room to release Warrick. Because of the media backlash if he would have sign with a top level team, of just "giving away another player/helpin so and so win another title"Ericmaynor3.com

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
There have been reports stating that the Raptors are preparing to sign Rasho Nesterovic with their biannual exception. The two parties have reportedly agreed to terms already.
And there are reports also speculating that the Pistons may be looking to sign Ben Wallace for the veteran's minimum now that Nesterovic is off the market.

Good pickup for Dallas as he can help fill the void that Bass left. Can't he also play some Center too?#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
Gooden is becoming quite a mercenary isnt he
good signing for Dallas imo. It's an upgrade over Bass at PF/C, especially because of Gooden's size.
I hope the Mavs still resign Hollins though as a backup C (indications are that they will)Comment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
I was never a big fan of Bass. All he ever did was dunk really hard, and he maybe did that every other game.
Gooden can go out on a nightly bases and score you 10 points and grab 10 rebounds. It at least gives Damp some incentive to try a little harder.Comment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
Maybe in the sense that Gooden is bigger than Bass which means Gooden can play center?
Bass is a better player through and through..
Gooden doesn't really do it for me....Comment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
yes Gooden is bigger, which is the main advantage. Bass was playing mostly center for Dallas last year at 6'7. He is listed at 6'8, but truth be told at the pre-draft rookie camp, Bass was 6'6 without shoes, and 6'7 with shoes.
Needless to say he is too undersized to play defense or rebound consistently against most post players in the west. Now, Gooden is obviously not a great defender either, but at least he is a legit 6'10 which might allow him to mix it up inside better than Bass as a backup post.
Bass has his moments on defense, and will attack the boards whether he gets the rebound or not, but he is not a good defender or rebounder overall. He got better at both throughout his time in Dallas, and should improve in Orlando, but I doubt he will ever be great at either because of his tweener size. He makes up for his tweener size though with extreme hustle though and really earned his nickname "The Animal"
Bass is an overachiever, while Gooden has been something of an underachiever obviously...but regardless, Gooden is the more skilled player right now. Gooden is better than Bass in the post, and he is a better rebounder. Bass has a money 15 footer, but when it comes to scoring, it is either his jumper, or a dunk.
Bass has ZERO back to the basket game and ZERO post moves to speak of. Gooden might not have the strength, vertical leap, or jumper that Bass has...but Gooden has had a solid jumper and he is a better, more efficient scorer inside than Bass (which is what Dallas needs).
Neither of them are great at playing the team game, but Gooden is still more adept at that than Bass is. Bass gets tunnel vision when he gets the ball. When he gets his hands on the ball, it's either shoot a jumper or try and yam on 5 people. It was quite a rare occasion in Dallas when he passed the ball.
Bass is young, and has more upside. He is a good athlete that seemed to have a good attitude. He improved while he was in Dallas, and he should improve in Orlando, especially next to Dwight Howard. However, he is not a better player than Drew Gooden right now. I know Gooden has been an underachiever and he has been around, but you guys are overrating Bass as a player right now. He hustled his *** off and was a really good role player for Dallas. He can really provide some things next season for Orlando obviously (especially next to Howard), but the great thing about Bass is his potential and upside.
anyway, when it comes down to it, neither one of them are big "difference makers", but Gooden is an upgrade over Bass for Dallas imo. Bass fits well for Orlando though, especially because of Howard, and Bass has a great attitude with great upside. I hope The Animal continues to improve and that he flourishes in Orlando.Last edited by ZB9; 07-26-2009, 07:21 PM.Comment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
btw, if you guys dont believe me about Gooden being a better post player than Bass, let me refer you to the numbers...
Close - Bass - 23% taken, efg% 38%, blocked 29% (led league in getting his shot blocked)
Close - Gooden - 32% taken, efg% 67%, blocked 9%.
Dunks - Bass - 16% taken, efg% 90%, blocked 4%
Dunks - Gooden - 5% taken, efg% 100%, blocked 0%.
Inside - Bass - 41% taken, efg% 57%, blocked 18%
Inside - Gooden - 42% taken, efg% 64%, blocked 7%.
Bass is a better jump shooter but Gooden has better post moves and is a better overall scorer. Brandon was a very good spot-up shooter, but lacked any cleverness around the basket. Orlando needs to develop that part of his game.Last edited by ZB9; 07-26-2009, 07:01 PM.Comment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
Gooden is more of a PF/SF than PF/C, ZB. He can't give you many minutes at center. He's more of a finesse post player than a banger, and easily gets beat up in a crowd. He won't get you many contested boards, or give you sustained post defense. He'll stick his hands in there, but not his nose.
What Drew does bring to the table is a very, very versatile bigman scoring, and he can really be a matchup nightmare for conventional PF's, and with a really nice offensive bag of tricks in the post if you try to guard him small. He can face up and put in on the floor, hes got a great baseline J, and a nice turnaround...and when he "makes it rain" he can get hot in a hurry.
Hes got a very low attention span, makes alot of mental errors, loses track of the game sometimes...but when focused hes a really good peice. You'll like Drew, he's definitely a more versatile player than Bass, but you'll still need a more physical guy at backup C.[/AlexB]Last edited by HMcCoy; 07-26-2009, 07:31 PM.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment
