Mavs sign big man Drew Gooden
Posted Aug 2 2009 6:26PM
DALLAS -- The Dallas Mavericks have signed big man Drew Gooden, expecting him to back up Dirk Nowitzki at power forward and play alongside him at center.
The deal, agreed to late last week, was announced Thursday.
Gooden is joining his seventh team, having also played for Memphis, Orlando, Cleveland, Chicago, Sacramento and San Antonio. Over his career, he averages 12.0 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.
"We are very pleased to add Drew to our front line for the upcoming season," team president Donnie Nelson said. "Drew is a veteran player with NBA finals experience that is entering the prime of his career at 27 years old. He will provide valuable minutes at both the center and power forward positions with his tenacity in the paint, rebounding and ability to knock down shots." by NBA.comNEW YORK KNICKS

DENVER (AP) -- The Denver Nuggets have acquired Malik Allen from the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Walter Sharpe and Sonny Weems.
The Nuggets announced the deal Friday.
Allen played in 49 games for Milwaukee last season, averaging 3.2 points and 2.1 rebounds.
In 409 games over an eight-year career, he has averaged 5.4 points and 3 rebounds. He also played for Miami, Charlotte, Chicago, New Jersey and Dallas.
Sharpe came to the Nuggets in a July 13 trade after spending his rookie season in Detroit, where he appeared in eight games and averaged 1 point.
Weems appeared in 12 games for the Nuggets last season, averaging 1.6 points.

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
I'm not surprised Ferry checked Warrick out. We really still don't have a legit starting PF that can compliment Shaq and their getting desperate. Hakim doesn't really fit the bill either, but he at least would give us a solid postup big off the bench. Joe smith would be a tremendous fit there, but we refuse to offer him over one year, and he refuses to take anything under two. He's still in play, tho. Something may give, as Smith is Mike Browns choice.
Windhorst source says they've offered a contract to Powe. Also looking at Steve Novak and Rob Kurz.
Im pretty sure we'll end up starting Bron and Moon together as interchangeable hybrid forwards with occasional starts by Jackson or Andy against bigger lineups. Bron/Moon would present a similar matchup problem Turk/Lewis had on the PnR, except Moon would roll to the bucket instead of stepping out for the pick and pop.Last edited by HMcCoy; 08-02-2009, 08:05 PM.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
Forward Shelden Williams has agreed to a one-year contract with the Celtics, according to an NBA source. Williams is expected to sign a deal worth the veteran's minimum salary of $1.306 million.
Williams, 25, was the fifth overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks after a decorated college career at Duke.
He has a career scoring average of 4.7 points per game. According to Yahoo! Sports' Marc Spears, the deal does not affect the Celtics' chances of re-signing Glen Davis.
Perhaps Williams's greatest claim to fame is that he is married to WNBA superstar Candace Parker.Comment

Hopefully you can get him back or else I'd want CLE to get him.Comment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
Last I heard, Thorn was still working on a 3 team deal involving NJ, Indiana and Boston that would bring him to Jersey but that also Boston has said they will match any offer up to $5 Mil to keep him. Posted that in here a few pages back.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
The Celtics still need to re-sign Glen Davis and move Scalabrine/Tony Allen. If a deal worked out with NJ & Indiana where the Celtics pull in Daniels from Indy and maybe Sean Williams & Dooling while sending out the aforementioned 3, I wouldn't be mad at that. I don't see any deal with NJ happening though since the C's had to waive Pruitt. The Pacers don't want Allen and the Nets wanted to not have 15 guaranteed spots.Last edited by Tha_Kid; 08-03-2009, 04:02 PM.Comment

Re: Official NBA Offseason/Player Movement Thread
The last terms of the deal I heard were :
NJ Receives: Glen Davis, Gabe Pruitt
Boston Receives: Yi Jianlian(?), Marquis Daniels
Indiana Receives: Sean Williams, and either another player or pick(cant remember off the top of my head)#RespectTheCultureComment
