They are fan websites so while I'm optimistic, I'm not buying it just yet.

I don't get why you care about the salary.

Between Kobe, Gasol, and Bynum, the Lakers aren't going to have any cap space for another 5 years anyway. You won't be able to draft or sign another Odom, so you might as well take him now.

That's not what I'm getting at.

I do not believe Buss is willing to pay all of those contracts.

We shall see if the 4 year deal is true.

Na not your bad it's all good

RealGM has put the source of the rumor on their website and is basically saying it's true so we'll see how real this is.

Odom is getting a hell of a deal, he'll be 33 or 34 at the end of the reported deal, will still have a more than average chance at another MLE deal.

Lamar Odom will re-sign with the Los Angeles Lakers, coming to terms on a $40 million contract over four years, according to sources close to the forward.

The deal will likely be consummated when owner Dr. Jerry Buss returns from vacation in Hawaii.

                      Actually hold your horses

Reading through different forums, it seems like that report is completely false.

                      LMAO, what is blacksportsonline anyway?

Here's John Ireland's findings today.. Ireland is very close to the Lakers as a beat reporter

                      The Latest on Lamar Odom

I had several conversations today with people close to the Lakers, and asked each about the status of Lamar Odom. Here's what I learned:

--The best offer the Lakers had previously offered was Odom was for four years, $36 million. But the fourth year was a team option, that the Lakers had to either exercise, or buy Lamar out for $3 million. That means Odom turned down a guaranteed three year, $30 million contract.

That offer is no longer on the table, nor is any offer from the Lakers. I'm told that if Lamar called the team today and said he would accept these terms, he would most likely be told that the offer is no longer available. Again, this is my opinion based on multiple conversations. I have not spoken directly to Mitch Kupchak or Jerry Buss. If Lamar and Dr. Buss got together over dinner, maybe that original offer could resurface, but I'm told that's highly unlikely.

The common opinion seems to be that the Lakers made Odom an offer that was far above market value, and he turned it down. It's my feeling that the team no longer thinks he's worth a guaranteed $30 million in the current market. Unless somebody has a change of heart, Lamar most likely will have to take less to come back to the Lakers.

We had Jalen Rose on the show Wednesday, and he says that's exactly the way this is likely to play out. Jalen thinks the Lakers won't offer Lamar the original $10 million a year, but he will settle for less and return to LA. Under this scenario, his mistake of not taking the original offer could cost him millions. Of course, if he signs with another team, the most he's likely to get paid is the full mid-level exception of around $6 million a year. Jalen suggested that the new offer would probably be "around seven or eight million."

--By the way, the perception that Odom's agent, Jeff Schwartz, has been making this worse isn't necessarily true. I've had two different people tell me that Schwartz is a solid agent who has taken every offer seriously, and advised Lamar to do the same. I had one guy who told me, "I'm pretty sure Jeff advised him to take the deal...it's always the client's call."

--I said yesterday that I thought the percentage chance of Lamar returning to the Lakers was 70%. Everybody I talked to today said my number was too high, and "it's more like 50/50." I still think it's more than that, but not much. If I'm Lamar, the Lakers still give me the best chance to win, can pay me the most money, and play in the city where I want to live. I know there are other considerations, but none more important than those three.

In other words, I still think he's coming back, but the situation has changed.

Damn, so even if he called them and told the Lakers he would accept the original deal, they still wouldn't offer him that deal? Is that due to the fact that Odom started talking to other teams and that's why they won't put the original offer back on the table?

Buss must have gotten super offended LOL

And it's great to see John Ireland state that it might not be the agent's fault.

I hated that people were piling on Trevor's agent, and of course they did the same to Lamar's agent.

In the end the players should have a slight clue as to what would work best for them. It really isn't that hard.

Does it not pain anyone to see player of Odom's calibre rejecting 9 million a season?

Honestly, I hope L.A. completely pulls out and he goes somewhere for 5 million a season...

I can't believe he's trying to pimp out an extra million per season when he's in a great situation and he's coming off the bench player...

Sources: Odom leaning toward signing with Heat

By Adrian Wojnarowski, Yahoo! Sports 26 minutes ago

Lamar Odom is leaning strongly toward accepting the Miami Heat's contract offer and leaving the Los Angeles Lakers, multiple sources with knowledge of the talks said.

Odom has not reached a final decision, the sources said, but there is growing belief he will ultimately return to Heat unless the Lakers improve their current offer.

"It's close, but it's not done," said one source.

Lakers officials and Odom's representatives resumed talking after a weeklong standoff that began when Jerry Buss, the team's owner, withdrew a four-year, $36 million offer that guaranteed $30 million. Sources close to Odom said that while the two sides have since talked, Buss is now offering less than the Lakers' previous proposal.

Odom could sign a five-year, $34 million with the Heat that would give him the option to become a free agent in three seasons and seek a more lucrative deal. He also would not have to pay state income tax in Florida.

Odom, 30, played for the Heat during the 2003-04 season - the only season in his 10-year career that he didn't spend in Los Angeles - and has maintained a good relationship with Dwyane Wade(notes).

Odom's departure would be a huge loss for the Lakers and an unexpected gift for the Western Conference's other top contenders. He averaged 11.4 points and 8.2 rebounds last season, and played well during the Lakers' run to the championship despite being bothered by back spasms. The Lakers replaced Trevor Ariza(notes) with Ron Artest(notes) this summer, but Odom's length and versatility made him a difficult matchup off the bench for opposing teams.
