Re: The Lamar Odom Saga
Odom wanted the Lakers to come strong. With their Bird Rights in place, they could have. They chose not to. Odom is now pissed.
As a small glimpse into where his head is at...He mentioned on ESPN news that he saw a TV peice on the top FA's this offseason, and was "heated" that he wasn't listed as one of them. He wants his shine...not reasonable money shine...he wants "dammit we gotta break the bank" shine that Varejao, Gortat, and Millsap got. None of those teams really wanted to spend that much...but they did. He wanted the Lakers to be fiscally irresponsible to keep him, not take a paycut, lol.
I don't blame Mitch and co. for being smart, though...and I'm sure they will win this battle. Understand tho that Odom doesn't want to be "reasonable" or do a deal that "makes sense". He wants The LoveHank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

He'd have to take the MLE this year and a huge bonus the next four years.
It's possible, but I think unlikely.Comment

Re: The Lamar Odom Saga
of course he feels dissed, when guys like varejao are top priorities for their team, but the lakers throw a measley initial offer at Odom like he's not that important. I for one hope he leaves. Ariza would still be a laker had the lakers came correct too. but, such is the lakers organization. they like playing hard ball, but when the players call their bluff, it comes back to bite them.Last edited by fluent2332; 07-16-2009, 09:44 PM.Comment

Re: The Lamar Odom Saga
this is what i've been saying. if Miami in fact signs him, for less than what the lakers were offering, then Odom indeed felt dissed, just like Ariza.

According to Bucher, Buss is pissed that Odom didn't jump at the latest offer, and that while PJ wants him back, any deal would include Buss and the Goods toking on the peace pipe.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

Re: The Lamar Odom Saga
it seemed to me that the same thing happened to ariza too. there's no excuse for ariza not to be a laker right now, other than the lakers not doing everything they could to bring him back. ariza said he went to a team that really 'wanted' him. again, lakers may have wanted him, but they didn't show it. same thing is happening to odom. it's just my opinion though. i'm not saying they always do this, but when you play hard ball like that, sometimes you're going to lose out. they may lose out on odom, and in my opinion it would be a huge GM mistake to lose both odom/ariza. sometimes you have to break the bank a bit and be creative to keep great teams together.Comment

Re: The Lamar Odom Saga
I hate to say it, but I think Mitch has been way too conservative this offseason. All of the other top teams are improving, and the Lakers have no reason to be content, or laid back. Unfortunately that seems to be the issue.PSN: rose2kobe24Comment

Re: The Lamar Odom Saga
it depends how much he feels he's been dissed. to me, i would be upset at the fact of being offered 3 years when I just was a large piece of a championship team. don't forget odom was asked to come off the bench and while he wasn't happy, he did it and never opened his mouth. he put his work in for this lakers team and was a class act. despite the fact they added a year to the deal, they already lowballed him to begin with. just a ****ty situation all around i think.Comment

Re: The Lamar Odom Saga
I think they knew they had a shot at Artest when dealing with Ariza.
Again, I don't blame the Lakeshow here...they've made a generous offer for a bench player considering the climate. While I agree with you Flu that Odom earned his payday with a great attitude, in this market 5 years @ 10 mill per for a non-All-Star is pretty steep.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

They signed Ron Artest, who is a top 15 player when he's not being insane.Comment

And then someone says Mitch was too conservative. You guys don't seem to grasp the concept of a salary cap. Don't seem to grasp the contracts already in place for LA.
They offered Ariza market value and people say LA dissed Ariza. Sorry Trev, your loss. I'll take the upgrade for the same price any day anyway.Comment
