Can I ask you guys something what is the definition of a point guard? IMO isn't the definition somebody that controls the game, shares the ball, has great dribbling and court vision. NOT to score 25 ppg for your team.
If you watch Rondo he excels at what he is supposed to do. He is supposed to score about 10 points find the Ray Allen and Paul Pierce coming off screens, and run the P&R all night with KG and Sheed. The guy has 3 OMG passes a night too. You could whine about how the Big 3 makes him so much better than he is and blah blah blah. But really the Big 3 holds back his scoring. If Rondo was on NJ, he would be scoring over 23 ppg, no doubt about it. In the playoffs with KG gone, he took the role as star, and then delivered.
Also Boston has the best defense in the league. You could say it is because their excellent communication, but I think it starts with Rondo not allowing penetration. When he doesn't gamble, he is possibly the best or second best on-ball defender in the league.
I also don't understand how some people are saying his rebounding numbers don't matter that much unless your putting up J. Kidd numbers. The best thing about Rondo is that he does this mostly on the offensive end. He has kept so many possessions alive with offensive rebounds.
Also how are people saying no body guards him? The Lakers believed Rondo was the key to the Celtics, and put their best defender, Kobe Bryant on him to stop him (I'm not making this up, it was said by one of the sideline reporters during the Finals). His jumper isn't top level, but if you give it to him he'll hit it. He's really not that bad of a shooter. He hit some clutch 3s as the shot clock was winding down during the playoffs last year.He isn't at the level where he can pull up and hit mid-range jumpers, but then again that's not the type of player he is. Last year during the playoffs, teams gave him wide open 17 foot jumpers, and he consistently hit them in the playoffs.
BTW, Boston would never ever trade Rondo for Devin Harris. Devin Harris is all show. He is a score-first PG. Has nowhere near the vision, defensive skills, and rebounding skills Rondo has.
The reason the Celtics are worried about Rondo is his off-the-court issues. During game 1 against the Magic, he ate spicy chicken an hour before the game. He was sick, only showed up 10 minutes before the game, and played terribly. Also he is a little feisty during practices and stuff like that. I don't blame him though, as he's probably getting in tussles with KG lol. If your gonna lead a team with this many stars, you have to stand up for yourself. Unfortunately, I think Rondo does it too much. Also they want to get rid off CAP and trade players like Ray before 2010, but teams want Rondo in return.
What I'm trying to say is, is that Rondo is the best fit for the Celtics. Devin Harris is good for a scoring PG role, but as a pass-first PG not so much.
