Terrible article, I stop reading when I read all those if statements."IF kobe didnt have..., IF lebron was on..." You can use that to discredit anyone to make your point sound valid. And if Jordan kept playing baseball he would have just 3 rings and would not be considered the goat. You see how I just did that.

Re: The future for the NBA?
What bothers me about this, is that this is gonna or probably has ticked off the owners so much that there is no way they don't have a lockout now. With the moves that were made they are gonna push for that hardcap and get it and all the great moves that the OKC's and Chicago's of the world are gonna basically go down the toilet after one year.Comment

Re: The future for the NBA?
Great article here. It's a shame the potential 'golden era' isn't going to happen.
LeBron James, in one fell swoop, has dramatically changed the course of NBA history for the next generation.
Had he signed with Chicago or the Knicks or remained with the Cavaliers, the NBA almost certainly would have entered a golden age, similar to the 1980s, where there would have been three or four truly great teams led by superstars in their primes competing for all the marbles every spring. It would have been basketball heaven.

We're in the internet age. In the 80s, nobody knew that Magic Johnson was giving girls HIV and quite probably contributed to the early deaths of several people. Nobody knew Michael Jordan was quite possibly the biggest douche to ever walk the earth.
Now we know that Delonte West banged Lebron's mom.Comment

The NBA will never enter another "golden age."

I don't think that really affects a 'golden age' all that much. The NFL is in a golden age and the off-the-field stuff is embarrassing with dozens of players."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: The future for the NBA?
But I still don't think this is a bad thing. The Heat are now 'must see TV' more than any other team since MJ retired...and potentially even bigger than him. How is it bad for the NBA?"Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's got to be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that."Comment

In today's world a player could never be as popular as guys like Jordan, Bird, and Magic were.

I just don't buy that if Lebron went to New York or Chicago it would have turned the NBA back to the 80s. I think a lot of the media backlash comes from the fact that three of the four teams in the hunt for Lebron who lost out were based in the #1 and #3 media markets in the country.Comment

Re: The future for the NBA?
I think it's more that it eliminated what would have been the best Eastern Conference rivalry in over a decade. If LeBron went to Chicago or NY it'd instantly become the best EC rivalry since Knicks/Heat."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: The future for the NBA?
This team is going to sell out every arena they play in this year and is bringing the fringe fan back to the NBA. Best thing to happen to the league since Jordan.Good job! Good effort!Comment

Re: The future for the NBA?
The people who are disgusted are either in Cleveland or just pissed they ended up with the free agent left overs. But those same people will all be watching hoping to see this team fail.
At my job there were at least 6 of my co-workers who I have never heard speak about any sport having a heated discussion about Lebron. This is good for the league.Good job! Good effort!Comment

Re: The future for the NBA?
Disgusted by FREE agents deciding to take less money in the primes of their careers to try and start a dynasty? It's never really happened to this extent before so how could anybody say "that's why the NBA sucks".

Re: The future for the NBA?
Casual fans don't care about people taking less money. They want to see good games. Competition needs for the best players to play opposite each other, not beside each other. And for the last time, noone is mad that he didn't come to their team. Knicks fans are over it. We're just happy we're going in the right direction. And we have the Yankees. Bulls fans don't care because their team is better off without him. People are mad because the way he did it, not what he did.
Lebron
Kobe
Durant
Amare
Nash
Roy
Dwight
Dirk
Yao
KG
etc.. are all on different teams. Please stop acting like these guys just ruined the modern NBAComment
