Of course he embraced the "hype" when its making him millions but coming out of HS, LBJ didnt hype up LBJ...

Never said he came up with it, but his mom was definitely wearing a King James tee shirt. You said his soph-junior year so we're still talking high school and may be on the same page. I just know there weren't any shoes Adidas was making for a HS kid so maybe we're both right. Maybe the guy started calling him that AND everyone around him made up tee shirts and other crap while he was in HS.

Fact is, LBJ himself compares himself to the other MJ, Now in Miami, he can actually become a Magic Johnson...

If dude really believed/or tried to be or be better than Jordan, he would have stayed in Cleveland point blank period...

Also, The Cavs hace had the best 7 years in their existence since being lead by LBJ...If you guys realky wanna agrue tatts, I think his tat is spoken for...

sonny v. came up with the name and it stuck. then when he started getting hyped in newspapers and magazines, it became a bigger deal, then espn ran with it and he did what most kids his age would have done and he bought in.

same sort of thing happened with magic johnson, someone wrote an article in the paper about him and gave him the nickname, it became a part of who he was, although comparing the hype level of lebron and magic is obviously out of question.

it just seems to be the "evolution" of this era, where the nickname becomes a hype train that become a marketing tool that becomes a persona that fuels the whole engine.

The point I'M making is that folks are naive to think that he didn't buy into all of this as well as everyone else, but you seem to think that he never did at all.

No the point everyone is trying to make is that LBJ wanted to be the "Alpha dog" of modern sports and now his "legacy" is in danger because he wont live up to the hype of MJ because he teamed up with two allstars

And it does matter because earlier in this thread people were using "he was wearing #23" just like they are trying to use the tatt excuse..

I can't defend a point that no one here made.

I just... I don't even know if that is possible.

As for his legacy, it's two-fold - what LBJ accomplishes and the accolades the media and the fans bestow upon him.

No matter what he accomplishes, his legacy will be "tainted" because of how the media and fans feel he achieved it. He didn't do anything illegal... but it's sort of like talking to your boy's ex. even though you didn't bang her... you were still trying to, and that's one of those "unwritten rules" people live by in our society. Some people believe in them more than others. But the fact is, they are there and people use them as guidelines for measurement.

Not sure how that's relevant to him buying into hype. Your last post was out of left field for the discussion we've just been having.

My post there didn't have anything to do with the hype around him either, but lets assume your LAST post was in response to that one. I still never said he wanted to be the Alpha dog of the modern sports era or that his legacy is in danger bc he no longer can be compared to Jordan. I have said that he shouldn't be acting like "King James" anymore and time will tell if that changes... and that his ceiling on his career has been lowered by the move. I'm summarizing again, like I did in that post bc I've said the same thing over and over. Either people aren't reading every post or are ignoring certain parts to push their opinions. I'm not putting either one of those on you but it does seem like you're arguing against things we aren't saying OR acting like he never bought into any of the hype.
