IMO yes they could definitely win a title, and multiple titles.

Obviously other factors go into it, but yes that duo would do a lot of damage.

Now we're talkin Pau Gasol after he got molested by Boston in 2008 [after that he got a lot tougher and his post defense was very much improved] and before 2012.

Pau is going to be aging here rather quickly, and actually same with Dirk.

But the reason I'd rather have Pau is his ability to play the center and defend centers.

Tough to say when you don't know who else fills out the roster. I'd imagine they'd be able to figure it out though.

Don't want to talk specifically about LeBron because this isn't the thread for it, but he didn't have a Robin nor a post presence. So he was 0/2 in what you most likely need for a title.

They're both Robins, and if your team was destined to never get a true Batman, then yes, Dirk is the choice, the clear choice.

Dirk is much closer to a Batman than Pau is, but Dirk's skill set does not allow him to be a Batman. Therefore since both guys are Robins, and therefore you see GM's split over the decision. There was an actual poll taken by all GM's and it was split 50/50. So your guess would be wrong.

Traditionally and statistically you go with a guy with Pau rather than Dirk.

Depends on your needs. If you need a big man who shoots mid-range and 3's - then it's Dirk. If you need a big man who plays like the traditional big man (but can also shoot mid-range J's) - Definitely Pau - the best (traditional) big man in the NBA, in my opinion. Just give the ball to Pau and let him work. It's pretty much 2 points every time and big rebounds when it counts.

With the way that's worded I don't think it proves me wrong.

As far as Dirk being a Robin, I guess I somewhat disagree with the take. For the past ten years he's been the best player for a Mavs franchise that has had a decent level of success in the playoffs, including a Finals appearance. I understand the arguments against him and for the most part they're fair, but I don't believe he's incapable of leading a team to a championship.

All I know is he's been bounced out of the first round a ton in recent years.

Leads me to believe he's

A. Not a Batman

and/or

B. His skill set is not conducive to winning a title unless he has a more alpha player/real post presence [AKA a player like Gasol] or a guy like Wade/LBJ/Kobe

The guy is clearly a more dynamic player than Gasol, it's no contest, no discussion.

Still give me the guy who will be able to guard centers, rebound against centers and also score from the post/mid-range. Not to mention Gasol could be the smartest big man not named Tim Duncan.

There's no question he deserves some discussion as a Batman considering what he's done with Dallas throughout his career. But judging his entire career I just feel like I can't call him a true Batman, and that he isn't a player that will be able to consistently get to the Finals as your Batman.

I guess some of you dont remember the Dallas Mavericks franchise before Dirk arrived

I do remember the 90s Mavs. I had season tickets. They were probably the worst franchise in pro sports.

Dirk has been the one constant and the main key in turning the franchise from doormats into a perennial playoff team in a loaded western conference. I guess a "robin" took the franchise to their first and only finals appearance (sweeping Pau's squad that postseason).
