Kemba has got to be Top 5 now.

Depends on how much he distinguishes himself from Brandon Knight.

You assume that Williams, Irving, Kanter are top 5.

So the last two spots will be between a bunch Internationals/Kemba/Knight

I don't think Kanter is a lock for Top 5.

I don't know if DWill is that much better than Iggy coming out of Zona, it'll be kinda crazy if he's the #2 overall pick but I'm not sure there are any better options. Barnes maybe if you really want to roll the dice?
          • From the little I've seen of Kanter I would not take him Top 5.
          • Once the NCAA discovered Terrance Jones had no right hand he was nowhere near as effective, I think he's a big project with a questionable upside. I don't even know if he's a Top 20 pick.
          • Love Knight as a college player but he struggled vs quicker opponents this year, but he's only 18 y/o. Don't think he has a very high ceiling, a solid starting PG is probably it IMO.
          • I rarely saw Perry Jones play this year, from what I saw he's got a ways to go.
          • I don't know about Kawhi anymore, role player IMO.
          • Barnes is similar to Knight, like his game but I'm not sure I see him being more than a 3rd or 4th option on an NBA team. I think he has higher ceiling than Knight but neither's is anything to salivate over. Most of his best games this year came against the horrible cellar-dwellars of the ACC. It's obvious he isn't ready yet, Marvin Williams definitely rings a bell IMO.
          • Kemba is the one everyone is really split on, I think he'll be an above average starting PG. I don't have any concerns with his ability to adapt to the pro game and run a team.
That's because you haven't seen him much. Kanter is easily a Top 5 pick and if he falls from that the top 5+ teams will regret it. Every scout that has seen him thinks he is a Top 5 pick. He can handle failry well for his size, he can shoot mid range and the 3, and he is relentless rebounding.

If you saw the Nike Hoops Summit last year when Kanter scored an all time high 34 points, you would see some of what the scouts have seen.

But it is certainly understandable for anyone that isn't a scout to know much about him because no one has really seen him...outside of the Summit game anyway.

I agree with you on Knight. He will be a solid PG but never anything special. He will likely have a 40 point game or two in his career because when he is on he is on, but otherwise just a solid player.

Jones I disagree with. I do understand the point about going left though. His ceiling is much higher than you realize though once he figures it out. He has decent handles (not great) but is a great passer when he actually passes. His release is extremely slow but that can be improved upon. He showed flashes of greatness, and he can and did go right (needs work though) throughout the season.

I think if Jones comes back he will be a lottery pick and the potential be an All Star one day. Not throughout his career, but he has that possibility. Still lots to work on but a short ceiling is not Jones.

Seriously, who has seen him that much? I saw the Summit game, it's a glorified all-star game, I put pretty much zero stock in that game.

DX has him 8th btw and they're by far the best mock on the web.

Yea I don't see the Marvin/Barnes comparison, at all.

I don't know what the heck folks were thinking taking Marvin #2!

The only ones that have seen him that much are the scouts and coaches. He may go 8th but from everything I have seen, read or heard about him, he is a stud and a top 5 player.

He is the great unknown in the draft this year though. We'll just have to wait and see how it pans out.

So what do folks seeing Barnes translating to?

I am not high on him. Do folks see him being a role player? Solid starter? All-Star? Bench player?

As far as Kanter, yeah I'm not going to use one All-Star game to make any drastic conclusions. What other film is out there or reports from whatever league he's in?

A lot more will clear up during the next few months. Workouts/combines/etc. etc.

I can easily see Barnes being a 20+ppg scorer in the pro's. He has all the tools to be a fantastic swingman in the nba and could be an allstar one day imo. Its gonna take him a few years but i think his body and skill set will translate really well to the pro's and i think he could be a more athletic Jamal Mashburn type of player offensively.

As for Kanter like you said pre draft camps etc are needed before we can make any real assertions to his real draft stock. Despite that strong showing in that allstar game everybody needs to see more than that to make this guy a top 5 pick. Should be interesting to see how he goes.

Good news about Perry Jones returning for another year, he's just too raw to make the jump yet.

Barnes will be a NBA all-star. He already has NBA moves and an above average jumper. Matter of fact, i'll go as far to say that he will be the best player in this years draft if he comes out.

                        .
That's a heck of a prediction. Mashburn was so damn strong and real athletic before the injuries started to add up. I don't think Barnes has the same God-given gifts.

Wow.... You guys really think Barnes is going to be that huh?..... Like I've said a lot of people will be able to look back at this thread and go why did I say that (including me lol)

He has shown nothing to me that he would be a legit All-Star. He would be maybe at most a Michael Finely if not Marvin Williams 2.0 lol. I remember him being a Power Forward in high school if I'm not mistaken. But he stop growing. He developed a jumpshot and a little handle. And made the full time move to SF. He looks "stiff in the hips" (Just like Marvin did coming out). Even though he can finish at the rim (at times). It just doesn't look fuild in my opinion.

Barnes has more strength then people give him credit for. He has the strength and while he isn't jump out the gym athletic, he has above average athleticism. While he did struggle early on he still showed why he was regarded as a high pick.

He has the mid-range game, pull up jumper and rebounding already in his game. Where he needs improvement is ball handling(that can be worked on), reading screens(often times he comes off the screen wrong and helps out the defense) and getting to the free throw line. The last one is a big one though because he knows he can just pull up and knock down jumpers easily he settles for them instead of attacking and getting the much easier points at the line.

Another overlooked part of his game is how unbelievably clutch he was as a freshman. The only person in the country that hit more game winning or go ahead buckets then Barnes last year may have been Kemba.

I think he can be a career 18 ppg scorer now but if he were to attack more and get to the line then he can easily add 5 more ppg to his avg.

Now I am a little biased, but he has all the tools to be an all-star. Alot depends on who drafts him. You put him in the backcourt with John Wall in Washington, and your backcourt is set for years.
