I don't think you can really buy a sports league kind of like why there are individual owning entities and commissioners. But if that hypothetical scenario happened which there are far too many impossibilities the hardcore fan would probably be upset the most but there would invariably be ” best players” and the league would market them as such. The talent pool eventually replenishes itself

Yes, but this happens gradually. I have no doubt the league couldn't survive a major replenishing attempt. The league would fold before they could produce enough stars to sell it because that's what we(the average fan) have been conditioned to watch basketball for.

You'd think that's be the case but from 98ish to 2005 the league did pretty ok even with all the negative rep surrounding guys like Kobe and so on. Most people wondered how the game would survive without Jordan but hey look what happened. As long as college basketball keeps being as popular is it is with rabid fan based people will want to see their favorite college player in the league at least once or twice especially with the way how media works (see Jimmermania).

Yeah but being the best of crap doesn't really mean anything. The NBA is not going to survive off a league full of one and done college players and trying to raid the Euroleagues for talent. If you're in gym class playing ball (and it's for a grade, not just free time in gym to play with your buddies) and you're stuck picking from the group of nerds, the best hoops player out of them still isn't the best basketball player in the school.

The league wasn't handed over to a bunch of nobodies after Jordan left. Sure his departing left a hole, but imagine that hole minus every player including the role/bench players in the league.

They are riding the players coat tails. It's just by design.

Say what you want about Stern, but he has successfully driven a wedge between the players.

The fact that the players are trying to set up another meeting means they know this is their last shot.

I have a little optimism. I think the players absolutely do not want to decertify and see the current proposal as acceptable.

So I called two agents today who represent a combined 19 players. They said that all 19 want the players to take the NBA's deal.

Lakers guard Steve Blake has been active on phones, encouraging peers to push team player reps to ask NBPA for vote on deal, sources tell Y!

Blake isn't urging players to vote 'yes' or 'no' on league proposal, but has gained a swell of support with players who want chance to vote.

Anthony Parker, Cavs player rep, said he favors rejecting deal. Said Cavs teammates and player reps he's spoken with are also against deal.

                          Why Steve Blake?

Shouldn't that be the job of another Lakers PG?

Whatever. The fact the NBPA said they wouldn't bring the offer to the players was insane to start with.

                            Anthony Parker and the Cavs...fantastic.

Bunch of ****ing losers. Parker is a free agent anyway, shouldn't be our player rep.

Parker said players have 2 options: accept deal or decertify. He thinks players could decertify and get deal done in time for season.

Get a deal done in time for season? Anthony Parker... you've already lost a good chunk of the season and will lose a LOT more if you decertify... Good bye season if that happens.
