      Getting back on topic...

As a Rockets fan (yeah no one cares about us) I don't want to see us overpay for a NeNe or a Dalembert when they will eat cap, won't help us contend and give us a slightly lower draft pick. As ex puts it, they won't "move the needle"

      - I'd rather we play the youngsters in this throw away season
      - Explore draft pick trade options for Scola/Martin
      - See which of our young good contracts sink and who swims, the swimmers will up their trade stock
      - Have a good draft, capspace free agency, and young spare parts with inflated trade values for sign and trades
      - Make a run at a star by hook or crook
      - Build from there

This 14 pick mediocrity stuff is killing me, but I understand it's a business and we can't outrank tank or risk losing money. It's just depressing as a fan.
Trust, Bulls fans know how you feel.

But it's GOTTA get worse before it gets better. That's cliche, but it's true.

The Rockets should really consider tanking, as bad as that sounds. Looking at 2012 mock drafts, there's a lot of star potential, I'd think. Anthony Davis, Harrison Barnes, (maybe) Sully, Perry Jones, Quincy Miller, maybe even Austin Rivers - there's hope for Houston.

You sure about that waiver part? I haven't heard anybody mention anything about teams being able to swoop in and steal Rip cause he's gotta clear waivers it's just been straight talk about him coming to Chicago. I would think if he's gotta clear waivers, there are teams ahead of us and they'd be cool claiming him just to keep him away from the Bulls.

He has to clear waivers BEFORE he's considered a FA (at which point the Bulls would chase him down). Seems like no teams with the cap space to claim him through the waiver system is looking, but that's just what we've heard (or haven't heard I suppose).

Yea, Nene is not worth max money and signing him to a deal for like $50 million for years would eat up cap and keep yall in the 6th-9th in the standings.
I can't believe no stars have tried to go to Houston, I think they have a good team to go to, minus not having a big man.

Right. If a team claimed him, wouldn't they have to take on whatever contract he had?

There's some type of bidding and percentage system, I've read the details on it. They wouldn't pull in the entire contract, but it's finnicky. Can't imagine any team outside of Chi taking Rip seriously at this point though.

You gotta give us the scouting report on the Rockets since the Spurs will be playing them for the preseason. Those dudes heads on straight or whatever if they don't get any moves done involving them before the game.

The Pistons didn't use the amnesty provision on Rip, they bought him out. I don't know whether he needs to clear waivers, but whoever signs him will be giving a brand new contract.

Yeah, I was saying we should tank without actually saying it. But Morey went on record saying he wanted to contend now while also rebuilding. I think those comments were made during the pursuit of our Plan A (twin towers) that was nixed by Stern. I wonder if that is still the plan? If not, I hope we pick a direction, and as it looks right now, rebuilding/tanking for a year might be the best option. Scola/Martin for capspace and picks in a great draft year, and letting the young guys play and get their stock up, would be a really good plan B. But Morey and McHale have jobs on the line and Les wants to make money. Basketball is still a business, but I agree with what you're saying 100%.

Yeah, I thought under the buyout he was free to sign anywhere under a new contract. I could've sworn hearing that the Chicago deal was expected to be 2 years 10 mil, to even out the missing payments from the buyout. Which is odd, since it doesn't truly even out, considering he'd still be 2 mil short, if bought out for 8 on a 20 mill remaining deal.

was Miami and LA not the heavy favorites entering last year?

but it's cool i don't expect Lakers fans to give the Mavs any credit for beating their team...it was all about what the Lakers didn't do as opposed to what Dallas did do.

At this point i would love to see Dallas kick their rear end again since last year was a fluke beating LA
Fluke as in you're not gonna win another one. I don't expect you to remember what I said about Dirk as well as Dallas throughout the playoffs, but I defended and big upped him/them as much as any Dallas fan.

It's just annoying to read most of your posts. They're either all cheap anti-Laker/LA slights [which seems par for the course here at OS, has been for years, which is fine] or beating the Dallas drum a bit too hard.
