    Woj report:

-Teams can start contacting free agents Monday, can't sign anything til Friday. Teams have already began informal communication since Thursday
    - OKC was expected to have already been in contact with Shane Battier, that hasn't happened
    - Miami appears to sell Battier hard, who said he wants to sign with a contender
    - Sam Dalembert is expected to accept a higher offer than what Heat can give him
-If Battier accepts a portion of Miami's MLE, the other part could be spent on Kwame Brown
    - DeAndre Jordan has a butt load of teams ready to sign him to a lucrative offer

@ESPNSteinLine Just filed to ESPN: Mavs free agent Tyson Chandler will meet face-to-face this week w/officials from Warriors, Rockets and Nets. Link on way

@ESPNSteinLine As negotiations with Mavericks have stalled, Golden State, Houston and New Jersey have emerged as three most serious suitors for Chandler

@ESPNSteinLine Rockets and Nets remain in hunt for Denver free agent Nene and are likewise expected to soon make face-to-face pitches to Brazilian as well

@ESPNSteinLine Golden State also linked w/Nene. But Warriors awash w/scorers so Chandler appears to be best fit for Dubs (who also like RFA DeAndre Jordan)

Miami is considering a run at Greg Oden, according to sources.

Oden hasn't played in two seasons due to two different knee injuries.

Oden can accept Portland's one-year qualifying offer for $8.9 million, while the Heat can only offer the bulk of their $5 million mid-level exception.

According to sources, Miami has also been in contact with Nene, Samuel Dalembert and Kwame Brown.

Oden doesn't have a lot longer as a top earner in the NBA, I don't think his feet can handle the pounding, a lot like Bill Walton (as far as foot injuries) unfortunately for Portland. If I'm Oden, no way I leave $4+ million dollars on the table in Portland to go to Miami.

I actually hope Miami wastes most of their MLE on Oden though, no way I see him healthy enough to help them in the playoffs. Just replace one injury (Miller) with another (Oden).

Its not his feet that are the problem. Oden has shaky knees, though if Amar'e can come back from Microfracture surgery and still be quite effective(arguably even moreso), I don't see how Oden can't recover and be effective. He doesn't even rely on extreme athleticism that Amar'e does eitherHell most people just expected Oden to block shots and rebound. Plus, he's still like 23 his career is far from over. Taking a chance on him with the MLE isn't that bad of a risk, especially on the NWO......err, the Heat.

I'm not saying he can't recover, I just don't think he will. He had wrist surgery before he ever played a game in college.

I confused his knees with his feet, but I don't think his knees or his feet will hold up. But the fact remains he had micro fracture surgery in 2007, then he had the foot injury in his NBA debut. Then in 2009 he chipped his knee cap on a collision with Maggette, then fractured his patella later in the year leading to another micro fracture surgery last year!

Looks like a picture of health to me. There's no reason to believe he can stay healthy for any length of time.

Unless I'm misunderstanding Oden's free agent status, there is no way he is going to Miami. The Blazers have already made the 8.9 mil. qualifying offer to Oden so they can match any offer he gets. He wouldn't accept an offer of less than 5 mil from Miami when Portland would just match the offer and say, "thanks for saving us a few million". Is Riley going to Jedi Mind Trick Portland into just letting him walk away for almost half of what they offered him?

I have a feeling Oden can get more than the MLE. He would be smart to pursue a more lucrative deal, obviously due to his knees.

Like you guys said, Oden should go for the money.

Everyone is still fascinated with his potential.

Miami settling on Kwame... IDK about all that. He's a decent defender but do you really want to depend on that guy's mental mindstate in a pressure situation? I sure as hell wouldn't. They need to figure something else out and not worry about spending their entire MLE on old Shane Battier. They need someone desparately at center.

Kwame Brown will never be the answer at center for a championship team. Paul Silas pieced his fragile psyche back together last season in an extremely low pressure situation in Charlotte. He gave Kwame confidence and pushed him just enough to get max effort.

Put him back in the spotlight of a place like Miami and he will go back to being "bad" Kwame.

All Kwame would have to do in Miami is provide toughness inside. He would score 2-4 ppg off putbacks. Play good interior D and grab a few rebounds, let everyone else handle the rest.

Random, but it's incredibly weird reading an article about Ron Artest now.

It sounds easy enough right... IDK, I still think he'd be a liability. Bobbling passes and vanishing on the boards in stretches. I just think his whole vibe is loserish. As harsh as that sounds.

Hopefully for Miami's sake they can get better.

Kwame does not want any parts of any type of spotlight......dude is too frail to be the starting center for a contender...

Dalembert would be a great pickup though....quality defensive presence and workhorse on the boards...

Vince Carter isn't a free agent yet, but sources close to the situation say the eight-time All-Star will be thrust onto the open market shortly after the end of the lockout.
Based on an amendment in his contract obtained by ESPN.com, Carter must be waived by the Phoenix Suns within 72 hours of the official start of free agency or his $18 million salary for the 2011-12 season becomes fully guaranteed.
