Seattle has a signed purchase agreement with an ownership group that the NBA desperately wants. I don't think there'd be any precedent for the NBA BOG to blow this up, bring the value of the franchise back down (worth less in Sac), and take away their own power to do what they want with their own franchise. This deal is literally everything except done.
As someone who hasn't been a big NBA video game fan for a long time....how easy would it be for me to buy 2k13 and relocate the Kings as the Sonics? Anybody have good instructions for this type of thing? Any chance I can use actual Sonics uni's or will this be a Madden-esque crude relocation with very limited options. Would love to get some advice as I'm on the edge about picking this game up to get pumped up and familiarize myself with a league I thought I had abandoned forever.
You'll get the '96 Sonics uniforms, the Key Arena floor, and the announcers call you Seattle. I don't know if it was fixed for 2K13, but in past years, the crowd audio was awful when you did this. There was almost no atmosphere.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: Agreement for new Seattle arena reached
Friday morning is the big day. That's the day the $30 million is no longer held in Escrow and is delivered to the Maloofs. That $30m allows some legal protection for Hansen/Ballmer from another group offering to buy the Kings.
I would think, at that point, KJ's best bet is to convince 9 owners that denying the sale to the Seattle group and keeping the Maloofs in the NBA, even if temporarily, is in their best interest. If he can get those votes, the sale can be denied.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Interesting little read on possibility of Phoenix Coyotes going to Seattle:
http://www.forbes.com/sites/mikeozan...rtner=yahootix
From the article:
"Look for the team to move to Seattle if the sale of the Sacramento Kings to hedge fund manager Chris Hansen and Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is finalized. The NBA team’s prospective new owners want to move the Kings to Seattle where they plan on opening a new arena in two years. Two teams in one building is better economics."
Dan here again....it's just speculation right now, but compelling!GO 'HAWKS!

Just heard on the radio that Stern has announced that Hansen has officially filed for relocation of the Kings.
Edit - not only that, but the sale and relocation committees have been combined into one and have convened to review. Stern calls group "very strong".Last edited by Coug00; 02-06-2013, 08:14 PM.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: Agreement for new Seattle arena reached
If anything the league needs to contract a few franchises to even the playing field and get more roster depth.
Finally, I hope the Maloofs end up living on the streets like the bums they are. Utter failures in business and life of you ask me. They squandered everything their father built like some fools that won the lottery.Comment

The NBA isn't MLB or the NFL you know, the NBA played with an odd number of teams for years so no big deal if they added only one team.

Re: Agreement for new Seattle arena reached
Actually it is a big deal. Adding another team means an expansion draft, finding an owner and another city that would actually support the team, another split of the money being made by the league, etc. Teams are already bleeding money with piss poor turnouts and you think it's no big deal to just add two more teams? Need to do a little research on what goes into expansion my man.

I think he meant no big deal, in regards to the competitive balance between the conferences and that playing with an odd number of teams would be irrelevant. Not no big deal in reference to how it would effect the league and the new team financially.

Re: Agreement for new Seattle arena reached
I will say this, as its a nice neutral area and I refuse to go onto Kings forums or Sactown Royalty or anything.
While I do believe the Kings are coming to Seattle, mostly based on past experience and what us Seattle fans know about how the NBA works when it comes to these things.
IF the Kings stay and the Sonics are granted expansion, that'd be awesome. Sac fans do not deserve to lose their team.
IF the Kings do move and the Sonics come to Seattle, Sac has allies in Seattle that'll push for expansion to Sac. If any grassroots groups spring up in Sac to fight for expansion there, I'll personally be donating.
I freaking HATE the NBA's business model of milk a city, essentially ransom a city, relocate, use that last city as leverage to do the same. It's just wrong, morally. This is the last way I wanted to see the Sonics return, but at the same time, with the NBA, you have to take what you can get.
Big props to Kings fans for the HereWeBuy night at the Jazz game Saturday, saw all the donations to get kids and people who couldn't afford tix to the game. Such a cool thing that I know a lot of people in Seattle really loved to see and respected. You guys are great.Comment
