Maybe in Wades younger days, right now I think his shot selection could be the worst in the entire league.. That's including Kobe&Melo

Re: Dwyane Wade vs Reggie Miller?
If Wade could learn WAY better shot selection, a more consistent jumper, better finisher around the rim (not just putting your head down and then flopping) and becoming a MUCH better defender, making smarter passes, stop holding the ball too long, then I would say he could resemble Jordan..his finals MVP year somewhat resembled a younger Jordan, but other than that I don't see it man..
- I'm not trying to hate on Wade, I'm a heat fan actually
Defense is what puts him right up there with Mike. I'll just say he could guard himself.
Smarter passes, well now that he has a decent team around him we'll get to see the old Wade again, those post-Shaq pre-LeBron teams were horrendous.
Holding the ball too long, I don't really think he's a ballstopper like a Kobe or Carmelo. Just have to disagree on this one.
And also, while Jordan is a better shooter, Wade is a better ballhandler IMO.
But to get back on topic..this thread should probably be Ray Allen vs Reggie Miller, in which case, I'm taking Ray just because of his Buck days."To the last minute, to the last second, to the last man, we fight"Comment

Agree with the shot selection, but when you get calls like crazy, you're not gonna stop doing it. When he was younger he didn't flop, when he was at Marquette he wasn't a flopper.

Re: Dwyane Wade vs Reggie Miller?
Not even me being someone who grew up watching 90's basketball can save this one -- Wade takes this hands down. Miller was a deadly shooter but if you ask him to put his head down to get to the line or play some defense you were ish outta luck. Wade just brings too much to the floor. Not a shot at Reggie but this one isn't a debate.#WashedGamerComment

Re: Dwyane Wade vs Reggie Miller?
Yeah this would be a better argument if it were Allen vs Miller. Not really a good way to compare who is better between Wade and Miller. There games are polar opposite from each other at the 2 spot.
Miller is more one dimensional running off those screens and having some one else create the shot for him. On defense Reggie is just hoping no one looks his way. Probably doesn't help that MJ was in the same division. He is one of the greatest shooters of all time, but when that's all you can bring to the table its hard to make an argument that he's better than Wade.
Wade can create and drive. Ball handling is hands down better than Millers. On the defensive end as some one stated only Wade and MJ have got 100+ in both blocks and steals in a season. For a 2 guard that's incredible.
I'm looking at this as if both were in their prime. Obviously D Wade is not the same player he once was, but in their primes its Wade>Miller. If you look at career averages between the two D Wade excels in every meaningful stat other than 3pt% and FT%.
I actually like both players. You cant argue that they both had that killer instinct within their games. Wade just had better tools to display that instinct. Me being a Bulls fan and living in Indiana I couldn't stand when Reggie would rain the three ball but I respected his game and approach.Last edited by Permatron; 10-13-2012, 03:04 AM.CHICAGO BULLS'91 '92 '93 '96 '97 '98Comment

Re: Dwyane Wade vs Reggie Miller?
On paper, yeah Wade looks better. My feelings are just if I could pick one to be on my squad, it would be Miller. I feel like he would be more feared by the defense. I'll probably get hammered for this, but I just feel like 1 v 1 Reggie beats Wade. Just my opinion though.EXPERIENCE MAYHEM FOOTBALLComment

I was basing my position on this based off the eye-ball test. But it's strictly opinion. I concede to Wade being a more complete player. And I did a little research to try and back my point up but really could not come up with anything. Reggie more clutch maybe? Scrappier, conditioning, hustle? But those are sort of intangibles. I don't know how much weight that carries.

I'm not trying to compare them to Wade, I'm just saying if you're taking the shots you're gonna get the points..
What separates Wade is the fact that he is so complete.. He's one of the most complete players in the entire league. Thats what takes him from good to great.. Even when Wade isnt scoring big he can still be a game changer with everything else.. He just had MORE than Reggie.
Reggie wasn't ever a, give me the ball and let me take over, type of guy. Wade has that in his game..
However when given the choice to choose between the two of them? It depends on what is already on my team.. If I need that go to guy I would pick Wade.. If I already had my go to man, like LeBron or Jordan or whoever then I think I would pick Reggie.. His play style can fit into any offense and he is deadly at moving without the ball..
I've saw lots of issues with Wade not wanting to move the ball with LeBron and Bosh and the rest of the solid rotation the Heat are slowly building.. And he's a liability on kick outs.. He catches wide open but can't take the shot, waits and pump fakes and dribbles into a contested fade-away..
^he just doesn't look good as a number 2 option IMO.. He and LeBron both looked lost last season, well I guess 2 seasons ago now.. But whenever LeBron got the chance to take over the team this past year he got his game back, while Wade looked more out of whack than ever..
My point is, I think Wade is a better player and if I was building a team around either guy I would chose Wade.. But if my team was already built around a star and I wanted to add another to compliment him, I would take ReggieComment

P.S. If you're unsure about comma usage, read the sentence out loud. If you naturally pause in a certain place, put a comma there. If your pauses are caused by an unexpected bodily function or assault, please don't use one."The power of accurate observation is often called cynicism, by those who don't have it." - George Bernard ShawComment

Reggie Miller is one of my favorite NBA players ever, but Wade is the superior player.
A better player in every way except spot-up shooting.Comment

While I agree with most of what you said (and the prevailing sentiment of the thread regarding Wade's overall superiority), this sentence is wrong on so many levels. Unless you define a takeover guy as only someone who breaks people down off the dribble, you should know that Reggie was one of the premier go-to guys in the league for a decade. Very few players were as cocky or relished pressure/competition more than he did. He was the leading scorer on 9 Pacers playoff teams, 3 of which were highly competitive in conference championship series.

Maybe I should have used parenthesis or quotation marks? I only used commas to separate the "give me the ball and let me take over" part from the rest.. Sorry, next time I'll do better.. Maybe.
And yeah I know Reggie was the go to guy for the Pacers and almost always their leading scorer. But being the best player/leading scorer doesn't always mean you are "taking over" ball games.
Would you consider Kevin Martin, or Monta Ellis, or anybody else routinely averages 20+ ppg and leads their team in scoring, the type of guys who "take over games".?
I've saw games were Reggie had gotten hot and hit clutch 3 after clutch 3 in the 4th. But I can't recall many times where I have sat back and thought "man this guy is really taking over this game"..
Wade is the type of guy who can do that any given game. Not just when he gets the 3 ball going.Comment
