Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
John Calipari was apparently close to deciding to become the Cavs coach...
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/sources...18583-nba.html
Not saying teams shouldn't be interested in Calipari, he's been successful enough in college that he deserves another shot at the NBA if he ever wants it. But it's crazy to me that teams would be willing to offer him that type of power and money.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

I agree 100%. It doesn't make sense to me. That would have made him the highest paid coach in the NBA.Cincinnati Reds University of Kentucky Cincinnati Bengals

I'm not even saying he's worth it, but the offer does sense to me. He literally has all the leverage.NFL - Vikings

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
Because why would he leave Kentucky (a top 5 college job) for entry level salary and no control at the pro level? It's a leverage thing. If someone wants him, they're going to have to overpay for him.

That's accurate, it's just I don't know why anyone would want him THAT bad.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
Mediocre point guards can suddenly look like great point guards in certain places. Look at how JJ Barea has played since leaving Dallas. It works inversely too, great point guards can look worse because of the team they're playing for. Surely John Wall's great season was helped quite a bit by having the Nene-Gortat duo and the emergence of Bradley Beal, something he didn't have in his first few years. Sure, he's developed his game since then, but his teammates have helped him look even better.NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
Actually, Wall's issue since he's been in DC was primarily health and lack of talent as well. Once he came back in the 2nd half of last season, the difference between the team with him and without him was night and day(even with a banged up Beal/Nene)and that's no hyperbole either. He carried his play from last season into this season(along with finally being healthy, same for Beal/Nene)and we seen the result of that team.

If Calipari had gone to Cleveland, the plan would've been for new general manager David Griffin to work with Calipari in the front office, but he would've ceded final decisions on personnel matters to Calipari, sources said.
Beyond the considerable length of the proposed contract – with an annual salary that would've moved Calipari among the highest-paid executives/coaches in the NBA – Calipari had some intrigue with the infrastructure of All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving and the possibility of the No. 1 overall pick in the June draft.
